I have had very bad experiences with churches in the past. They were either too stuffy, awkward, or not accepting of new members. The Gathering was perfect for me. It was warm and inviting, but not too "in my face". They let me slowly warm up to them and they accepted me in with open arms. Matt is the most animated Pastor I have ever met, I look forward to shaking his hand on my way out. He is passionate about what he does and what be believes in. I could go on and on, but I will end with this...try stopping in for an evening worship. I did, and I haven't looked back since. :)

Immediately after sitting down, I realized that I was in the right place. I felt so touched and inspired, and encouraged to explore my spirituality and connection to God beyond the confines of a Sunday morning. As Christian churches go, they have their religious tenants that tend to put them in the "conservative" camp, but as far as churches go, I do believe that this one is fairly progressive and accepting. Things to expect: messages concretely tied into real life, excellently performed contemporary music - some of it original, overhead presentation of what's occurring on the main stage so everyone can see, occasional use of videotaped messages when the pastor is traveling, coffee before the service and donuts after, and kind people all around.

Darrin's not afraid to give it to you straight, though - so just know that going into it. I'm not saying he's all hellfire and damnation, he's just honest - Christians are spending more time and money shopping for and buying "Christian merchandise" than they are building up their communities and making the world a better place. We've side-stepped our responsibilities and turned our faith into a self-help practice. If you are ready to be challenged, or you're looking for a church that welcomes questions and investigation about what Christianity really is, was and should be... I dare you to come. 9am and 11:15 Sunday services at Tower Grove. They have other campuses too - www.journeyon.net. You can also check out Darrin's latest sermon at the website.

The board pastor stated that LGBTQ+, alcoholics, drug addicts and people living in sin would not be welcome to be members here. So, we went downstairs to the Mosaic Museum which was quite interesting. It has numerous displays illustrating how the mosaics were done and offering details on the architecture and construction of the basilica. When we got back upstairs, there was a guided tour just ready to depart. We joined the tour which was being led by an excellent tour guide. The lady leading the tour was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the cathedral. She explained the significance of the various mosaics and their thematic content. The tour lasted about an hour and I would highly recommend taking the guided tour. This is definitely a must-see site if you're in St Louis.

From the moment I walked in the cathedral I was blown away by the design of the interiors, which is completely covered by mosaic tiles. I've taken the guided tour twice while going and the tour was really insightful in learning more about the history and construction of the cathedral. The tour guides that I've had both times were really knowledgeable about everything dealing with the construction of the Basilica as well as its history as a catholic church. They provide several tours per day, usually when mass is not going on, and they typically last 1-2 hours. There is also a free museum downstairs that discusses the history and construction of the cathedral. The museum is not as mind-blowing as the cathedral itself but it is informative.
