I arranged for a dj and a photo booth through First Class Events for my daughter's sweet 16. I received an email confirmation with Dj information who would be hosting my event. Then, after I paid my deposit, the dj information changed from a 19-20 year old to a man in his 30's. Since this was a sweet 16, I was excited to have a younger dj who knows the music and the children, and how to get them motivated. I voiced my concern and David said I'm sure things will be fine, Dj Sammy is a good dJ and is one of my top guys that I use all the time. He then sent me an email from a prior client stating they enjoyed their event. Reluctantly, I agreed. Biggest mistake I ever made. First, DJ Sammy showed up to a black tie Sweet 16 at a catering venue in a tee shirt and flannel and jeans. I told him the event was at a catering hall and was black tie. Although there weren't many adults, I was very disappointed with his attire. Then, throughout the entire night, he had this canned self-proclamation statement recorded after EVERY SONG. For example, he would play "the Wobble" and once the song was almost finished, you would hear "Dj Sammy, you're doing a great job." or "dj Sammy, you are amazing." Marketing ploys or whatever they were intended to be, were distracting and annoying, at best. Further, he would randomly mix the last remaining minute of the song with a completely new song, then go back to the original song. The kids were confused and didn't understand what he was doing. Further, his 'yeah, yeah' that he sung over the song was unnecessary and took away from the song. He wasn't on an audition for the Voice, he was dj'ing an event and he should stick to the basics-play the song and let it play. Then mix in a new song. NO singing over the lyrics at inopportune times, no 'yeah, yeah' over the song as though he's in his shower singing, and just let the music play. We also submitted a song list of 40 songs to him, and he played maybe 6 of them, after I reminded him. Also, as I previously mentioned, there weren't many adults there, because this was a teenager's party ,the family was going to have a separate event later in the month. That being said, my cousin made a request to him and he said he would play it, and of course he didn't. It's not as though he was inundated with requests, because he was not. There wasn't even one child who went up to him to make a request. Therefore, it was inexcusable that a family request was completely denied. He decided to play his own music and had his own agenda. Lastly,he then told me that he NEVER works with David because he sends him to weddings and he doesn't like doing adult events because no one dances and it seems that the people are bored. Everything I was told was a lie-from "we work with him all the time and he is "reliable"" to the song list that was so important and wasn't even referenced. I was very unhappy with the dj and the service I received. Very disappointed. read more
