My family withdrew from Holy Name of Mary after only one year, and I want to share our experience…read moreso other parents understand why. Our decision is based entirely on the conduct and leadership of the principal, Mrs. Berumen, which we found consistently unprofessional, dismissive, and completely misaligned with the values a Catholic school should uphold. At the beginning of the school year, I raised a concern about comments made by my daughter's teacher during Open House. She spoke about visiting shamans during her travels and's other religious leaders and placed those trinkets from those visits at the prayer section of the classroom. This is the section where the children go pray near at the crucifix. I found this inappropriate for a Catholic learning environment. When I brought this to the principal, she dismissed my concern and told me that Holy Name of Mary "is a liberal school and welcomes all religions." I explained that while that may be appropriate in a public school, I specifically pay for a Catholic education rooted in Catholic teaching. The concern was brushed aside. As the year went on, the situation worsened. During the 7th grade overnight camp, my daughter witnessed three girls taking photos of a classmate while she slept and drooled, mocking her and laughing. According to my daughter, this classmate has been excluded and ridiculed for a long time. My daughter reported the incident because she believed it was the right thing to do. Months later, my daughter came home begging to leave the school. When I met with the principal to understand why, the interaction was shocking. She looked directly at my daughter and said, "Now Victoria, you know why the girls don't like you. Tell the truth." My daughter was stunned. The principal continued, saying that Victoria should not expect to be liked if "the first thing she did as the new girl was tell on the other girls." Instead of addressing the bullying or modeling Christian leadership, the principal suggested that my daughter simply stop spending time with the girl who was being bullied, saying, "She will understand." This was deeply disappointing and completely inappropriate for someone in a leadership role at a Christian school. Towards the end of the year and when we had already made it clear we were moving schools the following year, my daughter was repeatedly written up for minor or unclear reasons, often without proper communication. She felt singled out and alone. When I emailed the principal expressing concern and asking her to stand down as we are leaving next year and there was only less than a month left of the school year, her response was once again unnecessarily rude and dismissive. Her closing statement was especially troubling: "We ask that you respect our team during this transition. If this is not possible, we suggest transitioning Victoria to her new school before the end of the school year. This will allow her to have a fresh start while enabling our staff to focus on our current students." This made it clear that our concerns were viewed as a burden and that my daughter was seen as an inconvenience. Because of the seriousness of these issues, I contacted Father Chris directly and later reached out to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to ensure they were aware of what was happening. Despite escalating the concerns through the proper channels, nothing changed. The principal remains in her leadership role, and the environment continues to reflect the same dismissive and abrasive culture we experienced all year. For context, I paid the full year's tuition upfront and would have continued next year. My son attends Damien High School and will graduate next year. This shows my commitment to Catholic education -- which makes this experience even more disappointing. We are leaving solely because of the principal's conduct. The environment she has created is not supportive, not compassionate, and not reflective of the values this school claims to uphold. I hope the parish and the Archdiocese take a serious look at the culture under her administration, because families deserve better.

They either don't see or don't care that he continues to manipulate and abuse (like this). To be clear, I pay to send my kids to a Baptist school and I would have never kept my ex from being there to see our kids get baptized. He would & enjoyed telling me about it after the fact! He literally gets off on the argument & getting one over on me. It is hard to put into words when you are being gaslit and attacked for years. There is nothing I could ever do right & he used scripture to tell me to "submit my body" to him whenever he wanted or needed. I believe the leaders of this church have "machismo" issues and it is handed down to the men in their congregation. Pastor Tony married us, did not give marriage counseling when asked and now continues to support the abuser by allowing him to do whatever he wants, when he wants. The trail is on the church compound which is super huge and very pretty we drove around to check it out... This isn't a beginner trail which is something other reviewers dont mention? The switchbacks are steep and curvy and many rock sliding areas, it also looks like it can get muddy you can see other animal tracks deep! There are random benches one was broken so be careful. We actually didn't make it all the way this time I think we were like 30 min short so we want to try again we did an hr up with small breaks to take pics and sit on benches. We had a 64 ounce water bottle and we drank it all fyi. We also ran into a rattle snake coming down, he warned us with his rattle and scurried away into the bushes and we also saw wild deer roaming the property! So be careful there are warning signs, ppl come here at night too but I dont think its a good idea cuz of those switch backs. Really pretty here, there was no one when we came super peaceful.

They opened up with music and prayer, had treats for the kids and gave an introduction. They dimmed the lights and began the Spider-Man movie. It wasn't the entire movie but the clips were long enough to keep my daughters attention for the pause. They paused the scene, used the same background of the pause and the pastor appeared as if he was part of the movie. He'd then correlate the scene with the word of God along with scripture. Then began another another movie scene and the pattern repeated. The video was done extremely well and I was quite impressed. The belief of God has slowly and steadily been fading away but fortunately this church has an innovative pastor willing to take a modern approach that will surely bring back the faith. As a Catholic I've never been so disappointed and embarrassed of such a horrendous wedding ceremony…read moreI attended here. My cousin was getting married in October 2019 here and her fiancé is not catholic but Christian based as well as well as caucasian and does not understand or speak Spanish. So they made my cousin ( Latina) jump through all these hoops and had all these demands as well as demanding they know what kind of music they orchestra would play and if they had ever performed during a catholic ceremony etc. Which I contentedly understand, it's the house of God, it's should be respected. So we had the band rehearse songs that the church specifically asked ( Responsorial Psalm). No problem, done! She asked and met with the priest and they decided on a bilingual ceremony since her fiancé didn't speak Spanish. Fast forward to the day of the wedding. 1. The priest was a no show... no excuse, no explanation from anyone, nothing 2. Not one microphone was on 3. A visiting priest from mexico showed up in sandals super late and had absolutely no idea what was happening or maybe he had never performed a wedding before. It was a disaster 4. The priest didn't speak a lick of English and kept asking the groom questions ‍ The whole family was horrified. The band was completely caught off guard and didn't know when to play since the priest seemed to be wining it in his own way 5. So pretty much the priest made him repeat sounds and words during the vows. So something that was supposed to be beautiful and traditional, the reason she chose for a catholic ceremony was completely a joke at this point. My poor aunts who attend the that church left crying and so upset, while the non Catholics asked us if that's how all Catholics ceremonies are. This is one of the biggest reasons the younger generations are leaving the church, if the priests don't even care, why should anyone else. Ive never been so embarrassed in my life
