Since moving to Mimico from the downtown core, it's been tricky making it to appointments with my…read moreregular hair stylist. I've been struggling to find a new place close to home, but after doing lots of research online, I decided to give Head Candy a try. I booked with Anna, and I was not disappointed. This amazing lady taught me more about caring for my hair than I ever realized there was to know, including a bunch of crap I needed to STOP doing. My cut was perfect, and perhaps just as importantly, Anna made me feel comfortable and created a relaxed, fun vibe. She's the kind of gal you instantly want to be besties with. A real pro. The salon itself is modern, clean and pretty, and located right at Queensway and Royal York.

I had my first visit to Head Candy last week…read more I originally came in for a brief 15 minute colouring consult, as I had emailed back and forth with the receptionist on pricing and what the general practices of the salon were. I met with Fernando who gave me honest feedback about what he felt my hair needed, including cutting a significant portion of it off to make it healthy again. Originally, the first availability they had for Fernando was going into November (for an evening appointment), and early October for a weekend. Fernando came over and squeezed me in a couple days later, which I really appreciated. When I arrived, we discussed the colour & plan again. He's very knowledgeable about colour and hair health. For a colour, cut (wet and dry mix) and blow dry, I was out the door in less than two hours. In total, I paid $180 (with tax).

For that reason I'm giving one star because as nice as the ladies were if they can't do the job properly it doesn't matter.

My husband gave me a gift card for Mother's Day to use on anything the spa offered (he's a winner I…read moreknow). So I called last week to get a little bit of run down on what they offered and to see what the best bang for my buck was. I ended up booking a "refreshing facial" and a "relaxing massage". She told me they give a 15% discount for first time guests and that my total would be $140 for both services. Triple freaking whammy!! A facial, massage, AND a discount?! Totally excited for it as I don't EVER get to do anything for myself (I'm a stay at home mom who's family also doesn't live here), as I'm with my daughter all day. So again, SUPER excited for this. I get there, the place is BEAUTIFUL. The lady who did my facial and massage was AMAZING. She was super nice, caring, and did a fantastic job. I would have given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for what would next and the phone call after. I go to pay bill, and the lady I spoke with on the phone, was also working the front desk, and she charges me $151. So I thought it was odd and maybe just didn't hear the total properly when I called, so I left and didn't mention anything. I got home and did the math and couldn't figure out why it was off, so I call today. The lady that was working the front desk yesterday and the one I spoke with previously, answered. I politely said that I thought I may have been over charged and before I could get another word out, she says "absolutely not." So that caught me off guard. She then continues by saying that she applied the discount to only one of the services (that's far in my mind), but that instead of charging me for the "relaxing facial" we discussed, she up-charged me for an "extraction facial" because the lady who was performing it, was taking out blackheads (sorry, TMI). So I tried to ask a question when she finished her sentence, but she then over me, says, "excuse me let me finish." So second extremely rude comment. So I then asked her why I service was being performed that I didn't initially book nor was I even told it was going to be an up-charge? She didn't have anything to say other than that she walked in and that's what the lady was doing. She kept interrupting me which didn't make sense since she jumped down my throat for the same thing. So I basically was being charged for a service I didn't even know wasn't part of what I initially booked. Honestly, I've worked in customer service for 5+ years and this just isn't how you talk to a customer. It bothered me so much that I made this post and so much that I won't return even with the work that was done being good. Customer service is huge and if you don't offer that to EVERY guest, you don't deserve my business.

Best "haircut" ever!! I wish my hair would grow faster so I can do this all over again sooner rather than later. I'm a middle-aged man with a bald spot the size of a large coffee mug adorning the top, back of my head. For years I haven't cared much about my hair or how it looks. I just keep it short for simplicity and because I find long hair on a balding man kinda silly. I've been going to Ruberto for over 8 years now and I've always found the customer service to be excellent and the quality of service fine for my needs. With the spread of Covid I sheltered as much as possible and as a result I didn't have a haircut for 7 months. My hair was starting to dangle in my soup. I looked like Howard Hughes in his final, senile years. As salons and restaurants opened up I waited until I believed that the decision to open these types of businesses was safe. And in the middle of August I pulled the trigger and arranged an appointment. I was expecting to see my regular stylist, however, Sweeta (the owner) told me that she wasn't available and I was assigned to a new stylist, Marianna. I was expecting the usual "cut", but she had some other ideas. As mentioned, I didn't care much about my hair so I went along. After a magnificent wash and scalp massage, I sat down in her chair and quickly realized that this was no ordinary stylist. This was an artist. She doesn't speak English well but once I realized that I was witnessing an artist working on my head, I didn't want to talk. She was meticulous, passionate, careful and dedicated to make sure my cut was just right. She seemed to pay attention to each one of my hundreds of remaining strands of hair. She politely asked is she could use "the machine". I wasn't sure what "the machine" was but by now I was so impressed with her artisanship that I trusted her to do whatever she felt she needed to do to my head ("the machine" was an electric razor. I've never been asked by anyone if they can use an electric razor before. This was typical of the gentle kindness I received). After about 40 minutes in the chair Marianna finished and I felt that my hair looked better than it has in many years. Marianna is an artist. I feel that calling her work a "haircut" is insulting. She took a lump of clay and sculpted it into a lump of clay with a beautiful hair style. Humour aside, I sincerely give my highest praise for Marianna's work and passion and my highest recommendation for her services. I can only hope that she doesn't get scooped up by some salon in Yorkville offering only the best at exorbitant prices. She is a tremendous bargain for the reasonable prices charged for her services at Ruberto's. My only caveat is that you set aside the time necessary for her to complete her work. I was usually out of the chair in 20 minutes. You need to set aside an hour to get your hair done by Marianna, but it is time extremely well spent. Andrew T.
