Different from the typical sit-down sermons one is used to. It's a large church with an amazing auditorium & stage. They make you feel very welcomed & like a VIP here. The only drawback for me is it's a drive from Apache Junction to Chandler but then again, my friend & her family drive from Maricopa to Chandler in order to attend so it may be worth it. They also have a fun church for kids to attend as well & an on-site school with a student center. It's a gorgeous campus. It gets so packed that they have people doing traffic control duty! Also, there is an inside baptist dunk pool & an outside baptist dunk pool. My friend was baptized in the outside one.

I don't make it every single Sunday like I used to, but I'm working on getting back into the routine. Even when I'm not in the building, I tune into the podcast--so technically, I'm still there! There's plenty of onsite parking and lots of programs to get involved in. The atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming, but what I love most is the diversity of the congregation. They give you hard biblical truths and make the Bible more relevant and digestible. I love that they have a college and are focusing on growing a generation to advocate social justice. I love that they don't rest on only worrying about their congregation but instead are world focused. Palmers background of growing up in Africa ensures that the Grove never views the world as "Gilbert AZ." The chairs don't match! It's one of my favorite things. It say, "Come as you are!" The setup of the worship house is intimate and welcoming. The worship is out of this world. Josh Havens, Andrea Hughes and Katie are phenomenal! But most of all, I like that they preach that no church or pastor should be your salvation. They focus on helping everyone get and grow an individual relationship with Christ! People here seem to understand that when Jesus said "love your neighbor," he didn't give any exceptions. They have a very large campus, which initially made me think they might be a "megachurch." While it's a big church, there are many small communities within it. They have a ministry for every stage of life: nursery, kids, middle or high schoolers, young adults, married couples, new parents, older people, and general men's and women's groups. The place doesn't feel like a business. It's a faith community that provides a safe space for followers of Jesus, regardless of their other affiliations. I particularly love the Kardia young adult community. They have a lot of ways to get involved and are very friendly, but there's no pressure to do anything in particular. I love that they serve open communion for all Christians, every week, and I love the music. It's contemporary and high quality. They rotate in new songs every once in a while, but they keep things around for a while and bring in classics so you can be familiar with some things. I enjoy the availability of the leadership. You can actually talk to the people in charge every Sunday. The transparency is great, as is the teaching. Typically, the same lead pastor (Des) speaks, but the leadership will keep the community in touch with what's going on in various niches of the church. I respect the way they operate.

There's an incredible amount of young adults that go to their church which was awesome to see. The reason I give only 3 stars is because of the children's ministry. They were super friendly when I was dropping my 2nd grader off for the first time, but when I picked him up, I was bummed to see him sitting alone and no teachers around him. I was a bit late to get him, because I was talking, but I have served at many churches and no matter how late the parents are, the volunteers do not leave the children. He wasn't the last kid picked up and completely alone, but in the 2nd grade "area" it was just him with no adults. Also when we were walking out, the person I gave my tag too kind of ignored us and when I said thanks and goodbye, she just continued to talk to her friends that were nearby. So in a way I felt like people were kind and friendly, but not as welcoming as I hoped for a first time person. Wanting to try the church again and hopefully it will feel different next time.

There are a lot of opportunities for community at New Valley. We have regular women and men's events, as well as a robust children's and youth ministries. What? Luck, huh, maybe these people are Mormon and Christian mix (many of them are around, watch out!) one of the guys asked me a whole bunch of very personal questions right in front of the group and then dropped the ball and gave judgement, wow, that was totally unfair at this point It was clear to me that this was therapy 101 and not a Christian group.
