I'll be honest and say I was quite surprised by Hardwood Industries. Generally, specialty stores -…read moreif they exist at all - in our small town are more limited in selection. I'd expect to travel to Portland or maybe Eugene to get what I need. Think Asian markets. Which is not to say Hardwood Ind has all the wood species a major market hardwood outlet would carry, just that it has quite a few. In perusing the selection for a project, there must have been a couple dozen varieties lined up nicely in the racks, with the warehouse holding the bulk stock. In terms of service, top notch. After we checked in at the front desk, Zack met us at the warehouse door and showed us the species racks, gave us a brief description of what they had and left us to browse, checking on us every couple of minutes to see if we needed anything. After we made our choice, he was right there to take us to the back warehouse to make our board selections from the pallet, which had quite a lot of quality pieces. A couple of minutes doing that, getting a ticket with the particulars, having the boards loaded in our vehicle, paying at the front desk and we were good to go. Efficient, friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable too.

Super super unprofessional. Stephanie Sherfield is one of those Gen Y'er that cannot pick up the phone and have a professional conversation. All she can do is text novel length messages! I don't have enough time to fully detail my experience with Newport Landscaping, but I can…read moreconfidently say I would never give this company another penny. I hired them for roughly $100,000 worth of residential landscaping work (no hardscaping, just grass, mulch and planting), and the results were extremely disappointing -- both in workmanship and customer service. The experience deteriorated to the point where I had to threaten legal action and report them to the Oregon CCB for breach of contract before anyone took my concerns seriously. A few highlights from the experience: * The project manager showed up to my property multiple times smelling strongly of alcohol -- on the rare occasions he actually came to the job site. * The professionally designed landscaping plan we paid for and provided to Newport was not followed. Major deviations were made without approval, which created unnecessary issues throughout the project. * Their estimate severely underbid the amount of mulch required for the property -- by more than 40 yards. This caused delays, frustration, and obvious concerns about the competence of the planning process. * Coordination between Newport Landscaping and Thompson Pump & Irrigation was terrible. I essentially had to act as the general contractor myself just to get the irrigation pond functioning properly, and it took months to resolve. * Jana, who I believe is an administrative manager, initially came to the property, listened to concerns, and assured me they would make things right. Unfortunately, nothing meaningful happened until I began threatening legal action and filing complaints with the CCB. There's far more I could say, but the bottom line is this: this company appears far too large and disorganized for the level of professionalism they advertise. Even some of their own employees openly complained about the company and management while on-site, which frankly is embarrassing. Read the 1-star reviews carefully. You may get lucky and have a good experience, but you may also end up deeply regretting your decision like I did.
