Avoid this place for any vehicle maintenance whatsoever. This location basically destroyed my entire transmission system when I had my AC condenser replaced. They made a minor mistake which basically snowballed into an expensive repair.
It started when one of their technicians failed to secure the hose connecting to the radiator that cycles the transmission fluid after installing the new condenser and putting everything back together, so on my way out of the base, it popped off and completely depleted the transmission fluid. Good thing I was still inside the base when I noticed something was wrong. I barely made it back to the shop since I was leaking fluids on the way back. I literally had just enough fluids left that I stopped right in front of firestone in the middle of the road. The staff went out to help and they changed the fluid for free and secured the hose after, but the damage was done. I noticed reverberations in the truck after a few weeks which got worse over the next few months, so I took the truck back to them to get it checked and they said the engine mounts were bad, especially the one near the transmission system, so I paid to get it replaced, but after the replacement the vibrations were still there. They tried to diagnose a little deeper and "determined" that it was the torque converter that was causing the vibration that time, but they said they don't do transmission work, which basically left me no choice but to go to a different car shop. Before I left, I asked if this could be related to the negligent work their technician did a few months prior, and I got a nervous "maybe" response from the management, but nothing more. They did not want to admit fault.
Long story short, I just ended up going to a new repair shop that was so much sharper and more competent (The Car and Truck Guys in Summerlin). They basically said that the transmission fluid getting completely depleted like that likely scorched the system, and the vibrations from the damaged transmissions caused the mounts to go bad. They also diagnosed that the damage wasn't just localized to the torque converter alone, but the entire transmissions all together, so I had no choice but basically had to pay over $8K to get it replaced because this Firestone location was so negligent and incompetent. That doesn't include the $1.5K I paid to get the engine mounts (that they destroyed) replaced.
This truck of mine was not a daily driver and I took good care of it. The transmission would've lasted the lifetime of the truck had they not damaged it. I considered filing a lawsuit but it's not worth it. I have better things to do with my time and I'd rather use that to make more money than get petty with this company, but let this be a warning to all of you. If you're planning to buy tires, then this place might be able to help, but don't trust this place to do a good job outside of tires.
Once again, avoid all other forms of maintenance work with this place because there is a high chance they will damage your vehicle too. This was a major financial drawback for me since I had less than a year left on my enlistment contract. That $10K I paid for the transmission system and mount replacement was supposed to be part of my emergency fund to cover me and my family while I look for a new job after my enlistment contract ended. read more
