Chris Bird - the managing director of Fireplaces Direct, is extremely rude, and has caused us to spend alot of unnecessary time waiting around for replies to emails and calls. Our gas fire was fitted with the wrong fire fret, we were promised a replacement and had to email and phone on many occasions just to get them to replace it with the one we had actually ordered. We then had a fault with the fire itself, there was excessive soot build up on the ceramic coals indicating a malfunction with the burner. 4 times we waited in at the promise of an engineer's arrival and 4 times we were disappointed. Although we did finally see an engineer, to fix this fault, it wasn't at an appointment time that had been agreed with us. He just turned up and fortunately we were in. Within 4 months of our fire being fitted the fire fret (which came without ANY care instructions) has already developed rust marks. On questioning why this was the case I was told it was cast iron, which degrades in a moist environment. The email Chris Bird sent me regarding this was MUCH less polite than this though. My house is damp free, built in 1982 and therefore I wouldnt expect there to be rush patches developing 4 months after fitting. I have written a letter of complaint, due to Chris Bird's rudeness, his complete lack of customer care and what I would consider a below par overall service and as of yet I have not had a reply. This is not a company I will be recommending to anyone. My advice to anyone looking for a fire would be to go to somewhere other than Fireplaces Direct in Basingstoke. read more
