The day time hostess/ check-in woman / coffee maker is quite friendly and sweet. However the nighttime clerk, seemed reluctant to provide additional services or answer basic question. Asked for a small bag of ice for an injury the first evening. Though she eventually provided a little plastic bag with about a 20 ice cubes from the freezer in the kitchen, her first response was to go to the pharmacy. And when inquiring about a hairdryer the second night, she told us, she have it away to another room! What?! Only one hairdryer for all rooms? (Turns out there was a hairdryer attached to the wall in the bathroom.) The room is clearly of Swedish design. Unfortunately, by that I mean IKEA furniture with some stickers still on the product. Despite the double paned windows, the train was relatively muted, however the walls are quite thin and you can hear the rooms next door. Including the yelling at the tv on one side, and the sex sounds from the other room. Lol. The elevator was pretty janky. Old style elevator where you have to close the outer doors and inner doors by hand. Someone must not have closed it properly one night, and I had to walk up the extra 3 floors. (Probably 6 sets of floors as Europe has those double floors.) Basic breakfast was decent. Scrambled eggs not made to order, so depending when you get them, between hot and room temp. But the host/ checkin lady is very personable and will make you a fresh cup of coffee. Pastries and yogurt also available. All in, I'd give it 3.5 stars. But as I have to choose between 3 and 4. It's a 3 overall. As Florence is super small, next time, I'd go much closer to city center.

They actually gave us a bottle of wine and a dessert to celebrate! The room was large and comfortable, and had a covered balcony right next to the train station. Do NOT worry about the train station. You can not hear anything, because they sound proofed the room. There was a fully functional kitchen, which was great because i got to cook and save money on dining. The breakfast is plentiful and the coffee was strong. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here the next time we visit. Well done!

It offers breakfast which is a us and convenient and the staff at the mini restaurant is nice and attentive. We enjoyed our stay as it was clean, the room was spacious, the heater worked (no AC available during winter fyi), the bed was firm (be aware if you don't enjoy this type), nice towel warmer, toiletries and even sandals for the stay! Nice touches to make you feel welcomed. Our rooms where not ready and left them to go get lunch and the Central Market (5 min walk) and when we came back the luggage was waiting in our rooms! I would had loved to give it a 5 star but there was a very powerful sewer smell that was bothersome. Not sure if the hotel could do something to make it better, but that did make it a bit hard to sleep at night. We only stayed 2 nights, so we just dealt with it. Overall, a good stay and will definitely consider it in the future.

This place is literally a 5 minute walk or less from the Santa Maria Novella station. The staff here are friendly and greet you each time you walk in. They left us a hand written card and some biscotti cookies on the door for our last night. (If you're reading this, keep it up. It's little personal touches like that leave an impression.) The room is a typical European style hotel room. It's small but it has everything you need. The room was clean and modern. The outlets had USB plug-ins in case you forgot your adapter. The bed was comfy and there wasn't any noise that I could hear coming from outside the door or windows. I'm a light sleeper so I would know. The shower is a little tight but like I said it's European style. It's bigger than the shower of fellow travelers that we talked to. They said their showers were about 2ft by 2ft and ours was maybe 3.5ft by 2ft. Not a big deal unless you're trying to get freaky in the shower or drop the soap. Speaking of soap/shampoo, theirs smelled amazing. I think we spent about 200 euros per night. I would book directly through their site because for me it was cheaper than using a booking company like booking(dot)com, although it is how I found the hotel. For those that care about breakfast. They have your basics like bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, ham, cheese, bread, cereals, yogurt, pastries (croissants, donuts) , fresh juices (pineapple, apple, orange) and fresh fruits (grapefruit, kiwi, cantaloupe, orange). I'm guessing the fruits are seasonal because they were all sweet and perfectly ripe. I'm a little bit of a fruit snob. I only had the bacon, fruit and juices and it was all good. Location is a 5. Room was a 5. Staff was a 5. I would definitely stay here again if I wanted to be close to everything in the heart of Florence. All of the big attractions like the duomo and Michelangelo where less than 1 mile from the hotel. You can walk or take the scooters or e-bikes that are located all over the city. The Bird scooter was 8 euros to ride all day and the Ridemovi e-bike was 15 euros to ride all day. Both are good for a full 24 hours from time of purchase. We got tired of walking after being in Venice so we rode the e-bikes everywhere. Hope this helps. Ciao!

Along the way, my train had to stop for two hours, while an accident on the tracks ahead was investigated. I stayed in touch with the people at La Contessina, as I learned more about how much of a delay this was going to cause. The people I texted with at La Contessina were polite, and as flexible as they could be. When I was able to arrive, at around midnight, I was overjoyed that there was somebody there who was able to help me get into my room. Also delighted that the room was beautiful! The bed was comfortable, and the ambiance of the room was extraordinary. My only regret was that I had to leave early in the morning, so I didn't have the opportunity to fully experience this venue. I highly recommend Residence La Contessina. I am grateful to those who worked with me to make my experience work.

The hotel is traditional and old-school. It is an old building, so some flooring may be uneven. I think I saw a paper ledger being used at the reception. The bed mattress is firm and comfortable. There is a desk and a mini-fridge. The bathroom is quite small, with a shower that is only about 2' X 2'. I am a petite person and felt cramped in the shower (1 star off). Even with its central location, the hotel is relatively protected from street noise. You can specifically request a quiet room too. I had good rest here. ZZZ.

We stayed in a economy room on the second floor (3rd floor rooms are much larger per trip advisor reviews) our room itself is a tight spot, there's only enough space for a full size bed and not enough square footage overall. I think they did this so you can have more breathing space in the bathroom, the heated towel rack is a nice touch, but the toiletries didn't smell good. We also had access to a cute balcony from our bedroom. Breakfast was a plentiful spread of fresh fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs and pastries. The coffee is really good too. Being a family run hotel, the staff here are nice. You have to leave your key with them every time you go out, which is a hassle sometimes. Convenient location to Santa Maria Novella station (250 meters, less than 10 minute walk), 10 minutes to Piazza Duomo and main shopping area. We'd definitely stay here again.

Booked through the hotel collection with AMEX travel and received such an amazing return. Giulia/Giuseppe were superb! Giulia took care of our check in and is full of amazing information! Giuseppe helped guide us to our rooms and was helpful in explaining how the room worked. The wait staff in the breakfast and the lounge/bar area were all very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our honeymoon staying on property. A little bummed that the pool was closed but it was chilly in November so I totally understand. The rooftop was still open for use if you want to go take photos of the amazing view or bring your beverage to enjoy. I can't wait to come back to Florence and will be looking forward to staying on property again. My favorite was the breakfast buffet! The cappuccino, americano, the buffet spread.... Gah I dream about it still. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful, open and great water pressure w the rain style sprayer in the shower. Love the bidet but I think that's just standard in European style bathroom. Lastly, the view! We really lucked out w the room and the location... definitely the best hotel I've stayed at so far and we can't wait to be back.

One night with a magical thunder & lightening storm. I slept better there than any other location on my lengthy trip. The booking manager went out of his way to assist with a booking error that was all my fault. Quite an ordeal for him to correct. I am grateful. The front end manager took care of a room issue upon arrival and went above and beyond to make it better than okay... Specifically, two of the people that helped with room service were gracious and kind. It's wonderful to be greeted with that energy first thing in the morning. The restaurant and bar staff were kind, friendly and helpful daily. They really made me feel welcome and at home in Florence. The food is exceptional. You mist try the chocolate chip cookies and chocolate croissant- better than France I don't normally care for chocolate and these were a favorite! The touch of salt in the cookie and crispness at the edge! Masterful! The breakfast buffet is A+++ Beautifully displayed, large variety of options- FRESH! I had 3 dinners onsite- I loved the chicken Cesar salad. Pasta was delicate with complex flavors...Room service for breakfast made working from my room and a slow pace in the morning essential for the ease of my stay. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating when I messed up with the room service ordering. They went above & beyond to help and make me feel comfortable. The hotel is in the perfect location. Close to walk to everything. Taxis a few steps away which is good because with traffic - requesting a car can take a bit to get to you before you even begin. Train & public transportation 5 min away. The over arching theme was the kindness of the staff - across the board. I am grateful... and... I can't wait to return and have recommended Grand Hotel Minerva to many headed to Florence.

They have a very small capacity and it is family run. I once stayed here when my apartment lease was up and my plane ticket wasn't for a few more days--they had a vacancy, so they upgraded me from their single bed room to a king. Hotel Mario's is conveniently located about a three minute walk from the train station and about five minutes from El Duomo. Unlike most European cities, Florence is not at all shady around the train station, so don't be scared that by its proximity to the train station (which is seedy inside). I will say Mario's isn't the BEST location, however, as it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the river, and a lot of the better restaurants are located on the other side of the river. Nonetheless, Florence is a small, walkable town so nothing is that far away. The hotel lobby is one level off the street. If you need help with your luggage, don't hesitate to ask - service is very friendly! Our room was really big by European standards, and cutely decorated. Wi-fi was fast, reliable and cheap. The people at the front desk were incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast, included with the room, is a typical European breakfast, but with great coffee, even cappuccino. It's not a luxurious hotel by any means, but it's spacious, clean, quiet and has great service. You won't be disappointed.
