Here's my experience: My wife and 3 week old son were in a car crash. The nurse from the hospital, was incompetent and didn't know how to work the radio or even respond correctly to the emt and wasn't ready for us to come in while we were outside waiting. Even though we were in a crash every single nurse, doctor, fuck even the damn janitor worked with no sense of urgency. There were like 6 of them in our room hovering over us standing there clueless. Couldn't figure out how to hook up the monitors and stated she couldn't get an accurate read they all laughed and started joking. They were slow incompetent and didn't know what the hell they were doing. We sat there waiting from check in to check out 5 1/2 hours. Sandusky Firelands hospital NEEDS to do better! The only good thing I have to say is that RN Jay was a cool guy. After my experience there I'd rather bleed out while traveling to Bellevue hospital than go here again. read more

Honestly loving the new ER staff Stephanie is literally the best and I didn't feel judged for going in there. (Unlike Bellevue ) I feel like it totally got cleaned up since last time. Left Bellevue feeling like with the exact same issue. Went to Firelands and it wasn't miserable. Everyone fully listened to my issue and didn't tell me it was from doing stuff I literally am not doing. read more

Terrible Stay for my father! Dr came into room & started checking on him without asking any information & he had the WRONG PATIENT! He was a patient for 3 days & we had the bare minimum when it came to communication with anyone! None of the Dr's could seem to come to an agreement as to what was causing the issues that caused him to be admitted! Threatened to leave before the correct Dr finally decided to show his face! I hope you never fall ill enough to need their services, but if you do happen to need a hospital in Sandusky, Ohio, make a beeline for Firelands Regional Medical Center -- it's the best! I was attending a conference at a nearby hotel/resort and started having chest pains. The on-site EMTs quickly determined I was having a heart attack and arranged an ambulance to take me to Firelands where they rapidly unblocked my artery and installed a stent. I stayed in their ICU for 36 hours and experienced the absolute best in care. I've been in many hospitals over the past 50 years and have never had anything quite as superlative as this. All the staff were friendly, efficient, and very much concerned about my comfort and well-being. I felt like I was being treated like royalty! The facility is very modern with all the latest state-of-the-art equipment, including such little luxuries as a remote control unit that allowed me to summon a nurse, dim the room lights, and select TV channels -- all in one easy-to-use hand-held unit. The bed had electronic controls such that I could raise and lower the backrest and leg support -- it was like a first-class plane seat. I had numerous blood extractions for continuous monitoring and I must say the phlebotomists were all very skilled at their job, causing me no pain at all. (I've had some in the past who were butchers.) My only minor gripe is the food selections did not cater very well for vegans. Never have had a 5 star visit here. The nurses are rude and slow and the doctors usually aren't much better. I travel 20 extra minutes to Fisher Titus whenever possible. The only reason I came here recently was to visit my dad. The commercials you see on TV for this place are so wonderful. Nothing like the experience you will actually have. read more

My mother was sent there for by her rehab facility for confusion and paranoia. I called to check on her, and was going to make the drive to sit with her. The ER nurse was rude. She did not want me there. She said they would call me with an update. THREE hours later, I called to check. I was told they had difficulty getting an IV in her (not told what for), and they were waiting for lab results. Once again rudely told they did not want me to come be with my mother, they would call me with an update, and I was hung up on. After she was there several hours, the rude nurse called to let me know they were sending her back. Really? What was the issue? "Exacerbated COPD." What does that have to do with her mental state? "She is lucid!" Really? What questions did you ask her? If it was only her name and how she is feeling, she can answer that! You need to know what to ask, and you did not want me there! I was hung up on AGAIN! I went to see my mother at the rehab facility, and she told me the most ridiculous story about the crazy things going on at the ER! If she had told the people treating her, they would have known she was still hallucinating RIGHT THERE!!! THEYSUCK!!! She is even much worse a week later, and they have sent her right back to that ER right now!!! read more

The ER nurses were good even the 3rd &4th floor nurses were good for the most part but.....the ICU nurses &head nurse were absolutely horrible!!!!! couldn't never find them &then when you did had an attitude! very rude very uncompassionate they treated you like a number not a human being!!!!!!! nobody deserves to be treated like that!!!! worst mistake I made was trusting them with a loved one! read more

Last week my son was admitted to the ER for an open wound on his arm. The doctor on duty, looked at his arm for under 3 minutes and left the room. We sat there 9 hours without any treatment and at 3:00 AM in the morning they were releasing him. When we asked what we were supposed to do about the open wound he said it would heal eventually and rudely said he was not discussing it any further and walked out of the room. They did not supply us with bandages, medicine, instructions how to take care of it, NOTHING. The next day he was admitted into Mercy Medical in Lorain and has been there for 4 days on continuous antibiotic drips and wound care. read more
