Chaturanga Basics Class with Kirsty
Lacey T.

While visiting from out of town, my sisters and I decided a yoga class was required. We had intended to take a pretty standard one, but owing to our overflowing schedule, the only time we could make work was for a sort of workshop. We booked and paid for it via Firefly's website, which is not entirely user friendly, but we all figured it out within about ten minutes. The studio is in a small strip/business center, with plenty of parking. Inside, it is a single classroom, with some storage and a restroom behind. The space is really lovely, though, all rich browns and golds, with a large sunlight-filled window, and stunning stained concrete floor. I was worried as we had not brought our own mats, but that was unnecessary, as they provided us not only with mats, but also blocks and pillows. Kirsty was our teacher, and she was personable, knowledgeable, and just cute as a button! We ended up the only students in class, so it felt like we had our own special sister's thing. Kirsty explained that they choose a pose to focus on monthly. Ours was chatauranga, and we went through various parts of this movement, ensuring we were utilizing the correct muscles with good form. We even took turns analyzing each other. Honestly, this is not a class I would have chosen, but in the end, I really enjoyed it. It was so informative, and helped me be the best I can at a core root of yoga practice (and I had thought my form was great, but learned I had improvements to make). My sisters and I have varying fitness levels as well as experience with yoga, and I feel we all got something out of the class. They offer probably ten varieties of yoga including trapeze, and even a dance class! New students can do a two week unlimited pass for $30, and then you can opt for drop in classes at $10 each ($15 for trapeze) or choose from several plans. They have at least one class daily, some days up to five. This was such a sweet little studio, and the prices, especially if you go for unlimited, are half of what studios in my hometown charge. If I lived in the area, I would absolutely continue to use Firefly.

Firefly Studio has been a beautiful decision. The community, classes and teachers are all amazing. They have taken me from a newbie to well rounded and confident. Thanks everyone!

Trapeze is fun, but I get too dizzy and it hurts my head so it's not something I'll do regularly.

Finally I went in and he was sitting on his phone on FB, I could tell by the screen. And then, he didn't even bother standing up to talk to me. That should've been a red flag. I shared my fitness goals, which are pretty big, and instead of taking to me about how I could get there, he just kept talking about himself. I had to cancel which was a NIGHTMARE to get my money back. He conveniently forgot to tell me I would get the percentage back that he was charged for the transaction, which I completely understand, but he didn't bother to tell me that. Just a giant headache and waste of time.

I'm very disappointed in the outcome of what first appeared to be some resolve for my spinal issues…read morewith "Specific Clinic of Chiropractic in Temple, Texas. The doctors were very personable, and took their time to diagnose my problems. However, when the proposed treatment plan was presented, I was told I was expected to pay upfront for the entire treatment plan. In my case, $4,500! This charge was despite my insurance (double coverage) being able and willing to pay 80%, with me being responsible to pay 20%. I was fine with paying my portion, but apparently this was an unacceptable plan for these doctors. Dr. Hernandez mentioned that she did not think my insurance would cover the proposed treatments. In order to reassure their payment, I researched all medical codes involved (provided by Dr. Hernandez) in my treatment plan with my insurance company, and had a representative from my insurance company call to verify my coverage. It should be noted, the insurance company's first attempt to contact them was apparently missed. In regards to the second attempt, the insurance representative reassured me that a message was left. The insurance company also informed them on how the doctors should issue the billing in order to ensure their payment. I performed this added step in order assist them, as they do not have a designated Biller to handle their billing and coding for procedures. Despite multiple (5+) calls from myself and the insurance company, both leaving messages and speaking to their front desk personnel to coordinate the scheduling of my treatment plan. I was told by the front desk personnel my messages would be delivered to the doctor, and they would contact me. They never returned any calls or otherwise communicated with me. I am uncertain for their disassociation with me, but it appears that anything less than 100% upfront payment is considered unacceptable.

I called twice to speak with someone because that is the only way to cancel-No answer. After eventually getting a hold of someone they sent my cancellation form. I filled out and returned the form but continued to receive billing statements. I called to see why I was still being charged and was told because I had a bill due when I tried to cancel they could not go through with the cancellation... I paid the "past due balance" and was able to cancel my membership. Incredibly unfortunate that you cannot just cancel and be done-especially if it's a medical reason and something I can't help. My friend…read moreasked me if I wanted to do an easy or hard class, and I told her I wanted to do a hard one thinking it couldn't be that bad. I was wrong. The burn was unreal. It was a total body workout with a lot of lower body (incredibly painful), a good amount of abs, and some upper body at the end. My friend has the most basic membership that costs $145/month for 8 classes. This seems like a reasonable price for group classes. The studio has other kinds of classes too, like spin, yoga, and HIIT. The instructor was nice, and she explained how to use the reformer. She came to correct and assist me a few times, which was helpful. One thing I struggled with was that there were no beginner modifications given at all. There were only normal options given with advanced modifications. It would have been nice to have the option to use a lower resistance or do an easier modification. While I know I could just adjust the resistance on my own, I would feel like I'm not following the instructions correctly by doing so. There was also no cooldown or stretch at the end of the class, which I am normally used to in fitness classes. Apparently it costs around $18 to buy a pair of grip socks on site. You can get a pack of three for $10 on Amazon, so I think this discrepancy is unreasonable. I understand that boutique studios want to sell boujee, high-quality gear, but they should at least have something affordable especially for the people who are just trying out their first class. I would much rather wear some used (but washed) loaner socks than pay that much for a "fancy" pair. I have heard about people not being aware they had to bring their own grip socks to class, so they were cajoled into buying socks at the studio.
