She had mentioned that I was bothered by a fallen arch, and he was kind enough to offer a consultation after one of her sessions. What impressed me most about our meeting was how up front he was. He spoke frankly about the nature of my injury, and was clearly not interested in offering false hope or locking me into a treatment package. As a weekend warrior I was curious to see how both his Active Release Therapy and chiropractic services could help not only my injury, but also my overall well being. Having received treatment from Dr. Brian on a consistent basis for over a year, I am comfortable recommending his services to anyone wanting to experience optimal physical health. I very much look forward to our sessions, and always leave his office feeling rejuvenated. He is far more thorough than any other chiropractor I have dealt with, and actually concerned with my individual ailments. There are certain techniques he uses, i.e. his method of adjusting the hips, that I feel are a great deal more effective than the traditional approach. Combine that with A.R.T. and you get an experience that truly feels all-encompassing. No "crack 'em, wack 'em, and send 'em on their way" schemes at Elite Performance institute. I will close by saying Dr. Brian is an extremely knowledgeable and passionate individual, and I found his positive attitude to be contagious. I wish that all healers would approach their craft with a similar mindset.

I rarely take allopurinol now. 2. Cupping on my forearms and triceps provided much needed relief, as I tend to lift heavy at the gym What didn't work for me: 1. I could not tell much difference from the cupping on my back 2. If your elbows click or pop like mine, the chances are that will persist. Do not expect that to go away. The whole wet cupping therapy is highly recommended and provide amazing relief. The part where people get freaked out about is the blood, and perhaps the meditative music doesn't help that experience. Also, the therapy sessions are not likely covered by the insurance. So it can be expensive at times. Despite a couple of downsides, I still recommend the wet cupping therapy.

I came in for a moving injury on my shoulder a while back. He did an x-ray at his location and said that it didn't seem like there was a tear, maybe just less cushion between my joints. He decided to schedule MRI as "an abundance of caution". However, He didn't recommend a basic MRI, he recommended an arthrogram which in hind sight, seemed unnecessary. He recommended a local hospital as is preferred partner, and it was awful. The MRI cost me $700 and took about three hours versus a outpatient Quest Diagnostic type location that should've been 100 bucks and an hour. I never received the MRI results from the hospital. I recently received a bill from Dr. Mody's office for another $200 for my initial visit. I have yet to return to even go through the MRI results, partially because I don't have them (thanks Advent La Grange for wasting more time I don't have) and partially because this seems like a bill at all costs type practice. I refuse to go back if it's going to cost me $200 when any other specialist under our health plan is a $50 copay. Note- I gave them my insurance upfront so this shouldn't be a $200 + $600 MRI for a sore arm.

I had a third L4-L5 disc replacement, and then told me that he was leaving for 5 days with his family, and left a PA in charge. I told her every day for 5 days in the hospital that I had severe pain, different from prior surgeries, from my left hip to knee to the inside of my left lower leg. She rolled her eyes each time and told me to push the button (for pain meds.) When Dr Mather returned and saw I hadn't eaten or slept, and was in such severe pain, he did a CT scan and at the end of his day, at 10:30 pm, he took me back to surgery. After recovery, he said, "I removed a cherry pit sized piece of disc material that I inadvertently left behind." He said it could be 2-3 months before the very irritated L4 root nerve would calm down. He kept raising my dose of pain meds as I went to follow up appointments. After 4 months, he switched me to Oxycontin because he couldn't raise the Norco dose any higher due to too much acetaminophen. He said, "In some cases like yours, the root nerve never recovers, and I'm afraid that's what happened here." I became disabled for life, I lost my beloved nursing job, and could barely do anything that I previously loved to do. He referred me to a pain clinic. I went back periodically for Dr Mather to sign for a disabled car plaquard, and the last time, he yelled at me, "I will not sign this! I did no such thing! You are no longer my patient! SECURITY! Escort this person out of my office!!" Be very careful if anything goes wrong! The only reason I didn't bring suit is I lost my 22 year old son 2 months after surgery; 2 months before being told I was disabled for life. Otherwise, it would have been an easy win. People make mistakes, but when he kicked me out of his office, and denied it all happened, that made me sick. I continue to have complications now, years later. If I could give ZERO STARS, I would.

Old fashioned doctoring. I called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kellen Choi. I was surprised…read morethat he had multiple openings in his schedule including "tomorrow at 10:30 AM." Great! I was also told, "come in 15 minutes early so that we can update your insurance paperwork." I arrived at 10:15 AM, updated the insurance information, and sat down in the waiting room. At 11:15 AM (45 minutes after my scheduled appointment) the receptionist informed me and two other patients waiting for Dr. Choi that "he is running behind and it will be at least 45 minutes" before he could see anyone. So... I'm here at 10:30 AM and it's going to be at least NOON before he can see anyone else? And I don't even know if I'm next in line since there are two other patients waiting for him. This is clearly old fashioned doctoring. When seeing my normal doctor (who is part of the Northwestern Medical Group) I never wait more than a few minutes before I am called into the examination room. A few minutes after I am in the examination room someone is taking my vitals (temperature, blood pressure, etc.). Within 48 hours after the appointment I receive a detailed questionnaire asking me, "How long did you have to wait before you were called into the examination room? And, get this... the choices are: Less than 5 minutes / Less than 15 minutes, etc. Also, "How long did you have to wait in the examination room? And again... the choices are: Less than 5 minutes / Less than 15 minutes, etc. There is clearly the expectation that the doctors will not be overbooked and make their patients wait for them like they are gods. I'm usually a very calm person and was waiting patiently to have my shoulder looked at, but Dr. Choi's obvious overbooking put me over the top. It reminds me of the bumper sticker I once saw. It had the Bell Telephone logo and the words, "We don't care. We don't have to."

Physical therapy - I had four therapists, a primary and 3 to cover. They all knew the trade well…read more I had bad experiences there though - it was my first time through PT, and if I have to do it again, I would try a smaller operation - my wife went to a store-front, and the PT's were far less stressed there. Midwest is huge, and they move "product" for an impressive "cash flow". The PT's have, I would estimate between 3-5 patients pipelined at any one time. I would "do the stairs", and have to almost stand in line to ask what to do next, because the pipeline got a bit clogged. I had two bad experiences of note: the worst - I had pain which I felt was not what I read about online, and very localized, and alot worse than expected - so I point to the spot, and ask the PT what he thought. He because aggressive/angry and said, and I quote here because I will never forget, "Why do *YOU PEOPLE* always think it is not supposed to hurt?", and paraphrasing now, "they cut out your knee, and pound metal things into your bones, of course it hurts". To this day I am ashamed of myself for not just getting up, and leaving, because there are other places to go. The second worst - one day, after PT, I was in the waiting room for a dr appt, and a therapist came out looking for me, and told me that somebody told him that my insurance was up, and I should call my insurance company. That was the end of my PT. there was no talking about a plan for me going forward, what I should do, expect, nothing, for the thousands and thousands of dollars that joined that ever-moving stream, called the "cash flow". Be Advised - if you do call your insurance about the PT insurance running out, they say stuff about 30 days or something, where some council of elders ... by that time, you joint will be stuck solid, with zero recourse.
