After getting kicked out of my normal Supercuts for, dare I say it - drinking a JAVA MONSTER,…read more OMG!!!! I vowed to never return during that particular supercuts crew (read my review for supercuts on 07/19/08). I also vowed to not go to a Supercuts - at least for that day. Cruising around I busted out my Verizon phone and looked up Yelp.com [insert cheesy kung-fu movie sounds here) I looked up "Barber" and since I kind of feel more important if I'm the "first to review" a place - I looked for a locale that had no reviews - Ben's was the first one past Supercuts - YES! Ben's California Concepts was a pretty great find. Ben - the owner and sole barber was really nice and un-intimidating. for some reason I feel really intimidated by new barbers - Ben was great. Since he's the only guy their all day he only works off appointments, so you got to call first. The shop is very mid-westy, brick building probably built by Billy the Kid himself back in the day, Ben himself is an older friendly Hispanic fellow that greeted me with a smile - it was a very comfortable environment. His ship is one chair, one barber, and that's it you walk in, sit down, chit chat, and in 15 minutes I was done. New Barbers freak me out, especially since I don't know how to cut hair - I have no way of telling them how to cut my hair, Ben was awesome he took a few minutes to show me his clippers and sizes and I didn't feel like a complete dumb-ass because I didn't know if I wanted a "2" or a "3". Recommendation: Just call ahead, 14 bucks for a regular hair cut for men.

3 stars. I went there yesterday for a haircut. Aaron, who attended to me did a great job with my…read morecut. However, he mentioned he could "clean up" my eyebrows and would do it free - so, having not have it done in a while, I agreed. BIG MISTAKE! Aaron can cut hair, however, he does not know how to clean up men's eyebrows in any shape or form. He messed up my left eye brow and it's very noticeable. Very disappointed in this being that I have interviews coming up and now looking like this.

Being new to Cruces I didn't know where to go. I tried another salon twice and when I realized she…read morereally didn't know how to do the cut I wanted I began asking around (we started with my hair below my waist...now it's grazing my shoulders, I was running out of hair!). Many people told me to go to El Paso..finding it hard to believe there weren't any amazing stylists here, I asked a few college age girls and they recommended The Fixx and that EVERYONE there is great! *They were right! When I arrived at the salon I was greeted by a stylist and offered a beverage while I waited. I scheduled with Ramiro. Not only has he studied here, he also studied in CA (my home state) and other states perfecting his craft. Ramiro has a PASSION for what he does! I told him my concerns with my hair (it was heavy, uneven, etc.) and brought in a few pics of what I'd like to see. He combed through my hair to see what he had to work with/correct and we discussed what I liked about the pics and how I would style my hair at home (curly, straight, blow dry, flat iron, styling products, etc.). Then he gave me an amazing scalp massage during my wash/condition before getting to work on my cut. When he was done I had great layers and my hair felt like silk! He thinned out all the bulk that was driving me crazy! He just about nailed it! He had to work with what I had and I left happy. I know that with the next few cuts that we'll get it where I want it (need to grow it out). I plan to have Ramiro as my new stylist and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He asks all the right questions and does a great job. The salon is aptly named as he FIXX'D my hair (I also love that it shares the name of one of my fave 80's bands! Hee hee hee!)!!!! PS: When I arrived Jolene was finishing up a short haircut. It was adorable! I also saw her do another short cut while I was having my hair cut...I'm sending my mom to her since she rocks short hair! When the girls told me all the stylists were good, they weren't kidding. I think you would be happy with any one of the stylists at The Fixx!
