Friday night we went to Ryann's Wines next to Stew Leonards's in East Meadow for a Valentine's Day…read morewine tasting. It cost $20 each for what they said would be a 40 wines to taste but it turned out to be much more, with every type of wine in the books. When you were checked in, you also received a $20 coupon for whatever you wanted to buy from the store, good that night, so everybody pretty much took home a free bottle. The place was mobbed, and the tasting area was the size and general shape of a boxing ring. However, everybody was having fun - especially the people pouring. Win/Win/Win! They will be having more of these tastings through the year and I'll see you there.

Tonight, I was running errands and showed up late to make a purchase. Not knowing the store hours, I pulled up to the store a little after 7pm on a Sunday. I approached the store and noticed it was closed. I went back to my car and the owner of the store pulled up next to me, and told me to come inside to make my purchase. He disarmed the store and turned on the lights after hours just so I could make my purchase. In my opinion, that is going above and beyond and it's simply unheard of nowadays. People like this need to be supported. They are why we need our mom and pop stores. I encourage everyone to patronize Discount Liquors. You will not only get all the information you need, you will get outstanding customer service and the personal touch needed from extremely professional and kind people. I find the guys at Huntington Wine Cellar to be friendlier and more helpful than those at Seaholm down the road, and that's a much bigger store. Huntington Wine Cellar also has Fisher's Island Lemonade, that can be a bit hard to find.
