We just had Josh and the boys back out to paint all of our trim after they did a major dormer…read moreaddition and kitchen remodel for us earlier this year. First - reading the review prior to mine - I couldn't be more shocked. Our remodel was just finishing up as their project was starting and I strongly believe some of what is said below is wildly fabricated. Josh was nothing short of a consummate professional on our job. Did everything go perfect? No - does it ever on a major home renovation project? But Josh made sure every single issue was taken care of. Including when an electrician royally screwed up our wiring. Josh lost a lot of time and money having it redone and didn't even try to up-charge me for the difference despite the lost time, materials and re-do of the job by a new electrician. Even months after the job was done - he has come back to fix minor issues that pop up (grout fixes, etc) and has never charged us one extra penny. I have recommended Hastings to several friends and neighbors - including a friend who has them doing a full second story addition on their house right now and is very happy and our neighbor who runs a major house flipping company (tv show) and he has hired them on to help him as well. We will be having Josh and the boys back soon to remodel a bathroom for us. If anyone wants pictures or more info feel free to reach out to me. Remember that there are two sides to every story and Josh is being kind in his responses to the prior review. I'm the pickiest and most honest customer (just ask josh ha!) and we will work with Josh on any project we have.

When I bought our home in 2004, it had a fine, wooden deck attached. Lately my wife noticed that…read morethe deck was a bit decrepit and so contacted the Dan Company to build a sturdy replacement. Even though hampered by the Covid virus and the requirements of our HOA, the doors they replaced and the rebuilt deck were all very high quality. We'll call the Dan Company for any future renovations to our home and have already recommended them to our neighbors.

I wish I didn't have to write this review: we had a great experience with the company a couple…read moreyears ago (so great that I served as a reference for them!), so when we needed help with a substantial primary bathroom renovation, they were our first call. Unfortunately, our experience this time around was terrible -- I cannot in good faith recommend them anymore. Giving two stars (rather than one) because the work quality was very good. Subs did a great job, were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. In the end, we didn't go over budget. But we paid a lot of money and experienced a lot of unnecessary delay and drama. In short, our project was a victim of poor communication and lack of ownership taking responsibility. We went through four project managers: the first went MIA on us, delaying the demo start by 6 weeks; the second hadn't read any of the project briefing and let us to believe none of our materials had been ordered; the third was too busy with other projects to make ours a priority; and the fourth was brand new, didn't really know what he was doing, and wasn't getting the oversight he needed from leadership. To the company's credit, they didn't end up charging us for project management--as we'd been doing a big portion of it ourselves. Ultimately, a project that should've taken 8-10 weeks took 16 weeks (and that's after the 6-week-delayed start). The thing that was most frustrating was that while Dan was fairly responsive to our outreach when things were regularly going wrong, he was also regularly pretty dismissive of our concerns and didn't take responsibility for all of the mistakes and screw-ups that were the result of his team's failings--failing to read the brief; failing to install underfloor heating and electrical that was in the brief, resulting in ripping up tile that had just been laid; failing to inspect goods on arrival so that they could be replaced when broken without delaying the project; failing to tell us about budget implications of design choices, etc. Dan will say I was mad when things went wrong, and that some of those things were out of their control. Yes, I was mad. But mostly I was disappointed that I trusted this company, and they took advantage of that trust.

If I could leave fewer stars I would. We hired ascension general contractors for a full remodel on…read moreour home. They finished in April of 2024. We had some issues with lazy decision making without our consent. Those were handled according during renovations so that's fine. However, we are just over 2 years living in our home and we already have to hire a roofer because of how awful the job was. We have multiple leaks. Ascension came out less than a month ago and they claimed the roof was fine and have refused to fix their mistake which is why I'm now here. If you want someone to do the job right the first time, go somewhere else.

Metal roof with gutters. Adding the metal bars and ceiling fan installation was barely more. It turned out way better than I imagined. The extra creativity they brought and the structural integrity really looks amazing. They made sure everything was properly done, above and beyond what code would require. Michael was who I mostly spoke to. He always returned my calls and was very professional. He was super honest every step of the way. One of the workers, Justo (I'm probably misspelling that), was a near constant perfection machine, going over every detail to ensure everything was done just right. And the cleanup afterwards was super tidy. Anyway, you can't go wrong using this company.

We hired this company because of a neighbors recommendation. It was a costly, horrible situation…read morethat we continue to have to remedy. It started with a wooden fence were the boards were apparently hard to find. They used nails that were too long and had to be sanded down. The screened in porch and deck expansion was horrific. They continued to ask for money up front until I had them call from where they needed the materials. If we paid them, they usual disappeared for days. After the initial agreement, Michael disappeared, avoided my calls and emails, and made excuses and straight up lied about things. His brother worked hard but eventually disappeared as well. When we had someone come in after them, we found out the quality of the materials as well as the craftsmanship was horrible, Brother blamed brother and the people they hired quickly left due to not being paid. What disappointed me most was that they use a company name that should come with trustworthy, honest people and work.

From before it started to after it finished, Bryan was professional, patient, and kind. We ended up refinancing with a loan that required additional hoops for Bryan to jump through, and he was timely and thorough in all that was asked of him by the lender. Also, Bryan's initial estimate only veered when he uncovered some prior damage to the house and when we altered what we wanted, there were no surprises. The work he did was incredible. We went from a 3/1 with a tiny kitchen and no real dining space or laundry area (both were contained to the kitchen area), to a 3/2 with a massive (to us) master suite, a beautiful kitchen, a dining area, and a laundry room. In addition, he oversaw the work on new siding, new windows and flooring throughout. I'm so glad we used Bryan and have/would recommend him to anyone looking to do work on their house.
