When Beth came into the conference room, I introduced myself as I had talked to her on the phone. Beth introduced herself and sat down and started in with her "questionnaire", barely glancing up and did not even ask who anyone else was. However, before proceeding, I took it upon myself to introduce our family to Beth. She asked us to tell her about our father, so we started to share what a great father he was, Beth did not engage but redirected us to her questionnaire. Beth was methodical and curt the entire time. I'm not sure warmth and compassion is something that can be taught, but if so, I would encourage Beth get signed up for that class. I've had to reach out to Beth to get things moving more than once. It would been more professional and appreciated had Beth simply taken the initiative to either send a quick e-mail or phone call providing status ... it seemed Beth saw just an old man who died and their faceless family. I even reached out to the owner, Jesse Partington, but did not even hear back from him. Beth sent an e-mail with an "I'm sorry " followed up with excuses for herself. Our memories of dealing with dad's final moments are, sadly, forever tainted by Preston Schilling.

I am absolutely blown away with my experience with Sunset from start to finish. I lost my dad a…read morelittle over a week ago while he was in hospice care in our home. Even though he was sick and in hospice, his sudden decline and death were very sudden and shocking. We hadn't even had the chance to really think about a funeral home selection, but because we've had other experiences there with other family members, we made an on-the-spot decision with Sunset, and I'm so happy that we did. Sunset staff came to pick up dad from our home to transport him and were extremely respectful, waiting patiently and unobtrusively for us to say our goodbyes and making sure everyone who might want to was present, even though it was late at night. Our next step was obviously planning arrangements at the funeral home itself a few days later, and I went with my mom and aunt (dad's sister) to help make some decisions. Our director's name was Wyatt, and I cannot express how much his demeanor, genuine compassion, and patience made this very difficult experience less stressful and almost easier. We knew that dad wanted to be cremated, but didn't have much else planned or know what to do. Wyatt walked us through many options while not being pushy and provided advice, support, and most importantly plenty of time and space when needed so the family could talk through and make decisions. He very gently guided us when we needed it, but also respected our decisions. When the day of the visitation came, once again we had outstanding service. Everything they had (delivered flowers, my dad's urn) was set up beautifully and perfectly. They helped us finish setting up our items and pictures we brought from home, provided easels and tables when needed, helped us get our picture slideshow on the TV, and helped us take it down when it was over. I'm the type of person that doesn't really like to 'bother' people, but because of who Wyatt was, I felt completely comfortable reaching out to him after the meeting and before the service when I had questions or concerns, and still do even after our services are over. He really did go above and beyond in his customer service and being respectful to my family as well as my dad's dignity as a person, as did the other staff we encountered there. While this has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, the staff at Sunset- especially Wyatt- made this very difficult time that much easier, and I can't thank them enough for the peace of mind they brought us and everything they did for us. From the bottom of our hearts, from myself and my family, thank you.
