Their website makes it very clear what you are getting and what you are paying for, and includes add ons if needed for pools, detached buildings, fireplaces, etc. Very clear. I hate that I need to update this review with anything less than 5 stars but unfortunately mistakes happen. While I still stand behind how thorough the inspection and report was that we recieved, unfortunately Final Analysis did fail to find a 3 inch sewage cleanout just inside our gate next to our house which resulted in them not being able to do the camera view of the main sewage line for our home. While I am sure for most this would not normally be issue, for us it was. Once my family moved into our home, about 3 weeks after closing, our entire sewage system ceased to work. The result was sewage backing into and overfilling the showers, sinks, and toilets on our first floor and a large sewage leak from the 3 inch clean out on the side of our home, covering our sidewalk and our yard. Upon removing the cleanout cap, even through the mess, a simple visual down the cleanout showed a large amount of tree roots that indicated the sewage main was compromised, no camera necessary. Even through all this, I truly was not worried. I had lucked out and found a reputable plumber in town who was thousands cheaper than the next (I found out after the fact) and was prepared to do the work quickly (came out the next day, Saturday, and said it would take 3 days to complete). I knew Dan and Final Analysis had a reputation to uphold and the reviews to back it up, not to mention their website guarenteeing their work. I understand mistakes happen, but when you choose a good company its the accountability after the fact that dinstinguishes them from the bad companies you didn't choose. I called Dan the day everything started happening and sent him pictures of the issues we found. He understood what was going on, the extent of the issue, and took ownership of the fact that the inspection missed the cleanout and how much trouble would have been avoided had it not been missed. He even told me that they would be there for us if we needed anything and if need be, financially. Over a few phone calls I expressed everything in this review to him as well as how the repairs would take 3 days to complete at a cost of $3000 once we recieved the estimate. I sent the estimate invoice as well as descriptions and photos of the work needing to be done and asked if he had any one he could recommend to get a quote from before starting the work. With no recommendations, we started the work with our plumber. After 4 days of having no useable plumbing in our home and only 1 day left until the plumbing was restored, I called Dan after sending an update of the work. We had to pay the plumber the next day and I asked him if Final Analysis would be able to help us with the bill, even mentioning that I didn't expect them to foot the entire bill, but surely something alogn the lines of half. He told me that it was a difficult situation, that Final Analysis was not technically liable because they never inspected the sewage line. He stated that even though they weren't obligated to, that he would be refunding our home inspection fee, approximately $500 and suggested I check if my home owners insurance would cover anything. (Unfortunately, they won't.) While I do appreciate Dan and the refund of our inspection (although yet to be recieved), we were left almost a week with no working plumbing in our home and a $3000 bill as a result of Final Analysis not finding the 3 inch cleanout next to our home. Not only was the cleanout on our sidewalk just inside our gate, but it was directly in the walkway in our backyard, not hidden or covered by any plants or trees, and it was also directly in line with the city cleanout on our driveway that was found on the day of the inspection. This was an unfortunate series of events and I hope it does not happen to anyone else. read more

I used this company to conduct a home inspection when buying a duplex in Portsmouth. They did an excellent job! They were prompt, professional and extremely knowledgeable. Because of the size and age of the home, they sent out 3 inspectors and were able to complete the job pretty quickly (within a couple of hours). They gave me a prelim oral report immediately after. I then received a more extensive report with pictures and videos later that day. Because of them, I felt more informed about the house and had a peace of mind about moving forward with buying the property. They even saved me some money on my home insurance. The property was listed as being built in 1811. They noticed that the materials were from the 1900s so the property could not be that old. As a result, my insurance company gave me a better deal. When I called Final Analysis for a quote on my home inspection, the man who answered the phone (Who I assume was the owner) was polite and professional. He gave me a complete list of the services they provide. He said that he would assign the inspection to Anthony Gilbar, who he said was the best inspector that he has. The inspection was set for 9:00 AM but Anthony was at the house as early as 8:40 AM. He was polite and professional. He started by asking if there was anything about the house that we were particularly worried about so that he could look at it. We expressed some concerns, which were the first things he addressed when he gave us a verbal report after the inspection. The inspection took about 2 hours. It was a 3 bed 2 bath townhouse, there was no crawl space. The inspection cost $444. Anthony seemed to know what he was doing and was able to answer all my questions. He did not seem to mind me asking questions during the inspection either. Everyone I spoke to from the company was very personable. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a home inspection in the area! read more

Very thorough and professional! We have used Final Analysis four times while purchasing a house. The first three times went very well. There were no surprises and the team was very transparent with everything the houses need. The one that stood out to me the most was the roof. They told us that the roof would need replacing as soon as possible. We did it and that was the end of that. When buying another rental, we went with another home inspection company at the recommendation of a coworker. The house was given a clean bill of health. Great! Except that nine months later, the tenant complained about a leak in the kitchen. I climbed the roof and was immediately alarmed by how soft the roof was. We called a roofer out there and he confirmed what we already knew. This particular patch of the roof was far too soft and needed replacing. Even more, he said that someone did a quick patch job in the last year and did it poorly. He asked if we had any idea. No. We didn't. So when we bought our current house, we were discussing which home inspection team to go with. It was simple. One could spot problems in a roof, the other could not. So we went with the one we should have stuck with in the first place: Final Analysis. And they did a great job. They were detailed and nothing came as a surprise. Services provided on Sept 8: This is my second review using Final Analysis as they provided another home inspection and termite inspection for a different house that my wife and I wanted to purchase. The first inspection had helped us decide not to purchase that first house. Their team this time consisted of just Adam and Zach. Another great, detailed inspection and were there at their same professional punctuality, friendliness, and determination into finding any possible issue in every nook and cranny of the house. Since this was the second time using them, they waived the termite inspection cost. A great plus for my wife and I! After they completed the inspections, they again went over their very detailed findings and answered every question we had with such commitment. Final Analysis really does know their stuff! My wife and I had a conversation about this special company when we left. We had both agreed that when we do find our new "home", that we will still request their services every couple of years just to make sure everything is still intact. They will find and look for problems that may be invisible to the average "Joe". Just because a home inspection is a good idea before you purchase a house, doesn't really mean you shouldn't ever need one again for a good upkeep of your home. I can rant on and on about them in this second review of Final Analysis, but instead, here is a copy and paste from the first inspection dated 2 months ago. 1st review: Final Analysis came out with their team of Dan, Adam, and another gentleman (apologies that I forgot his name). Inspection was at 1pm and I arrived 15 minutes early to find out they were already there; very punctual of them. We introduced ourselves, went into the house, and they went straight to work. They had telescoping ladders, water temperature and flow gauges, thermal heat gauge (FLIR), moisture gauges... and probably even more that I didn't see them use. During the inspection, anything that my wife and I had questions about were answered right away. Not the 'let me look into that' type of answer from an unprofessional. After the inspection, they'd talk to us and would show us areas of concern. Not something that they needed to do, but that's something Final Analysis does as a professional courtesy. And of course, they would tell us the 'red flags' of the home. A quote from the owner, Dan, which left me in awe and in full piece of mind that I chose the right home inspector, "Just because the inspection is done doesn't mean you can't call us for any other questions." Two to 3 hours later, we received a full detailed inspection of the entire house including pictures of those red flag items I have mentioned earlier AND the areas of concern that would be needed for future maintenance. It also would show images of how things should look if the things found in the home weren't up to par. The following day, I did speak with Dan and we had a hefty conversation on the items of my personal concern. He even let me know how much effort and expense would be needed if I were to choose to do some of the tasks on my own. So to fast forward to the 3rd day, which is today, 7/8/2017, I had spoke to my agent from what I told him yesterday on what the seller should offer after seeing the detailed report. I was told that the seller's agent wouldn't oblige to some of the things i wanted changed because in her 30+ years of being an agent, she never saw such a detailed report and was actually repulsed by it. GO FIGURE! I think her 30 years of experience working with an inspector is because she used her own in-house referral to help with her sales. That's my true honest opinion. Oh, and she works with RE/MAX by the way. I ended up signing the release agreement to get out of the contract and that detailed report sure did help me with my decision. So would I recommend Final Analysis? Yes. Would I use them again? Indefinitely! read more

Excellent inspection by Chris. He was punctual, safe, and professional. Chris asked for specific areas of concerns which for us was the a/c. Chris was extremely thorough and took his time to explain our new home to me (which the builder should have done). He got the gas turned in to our fire place and showed me how to light it. Chris discovered that our home was missing dampers in the HVAC system. The builder had told us we had two separate zones but the HVAC guy had not installed dampers. With Chris' help I was able to hold the builder and his sub accountable and get this costly repair done. The HVAC guy admitted that he never installed it and blamed it on Covid. We learned that our a/c unit was too small for the size of our home. I'm so glad we hired this company and wished we had done it before closing. Lesson learned: don't skip the home inspection in new construction!!!! read more

My wife and I are from out of the area. When researching home inspectors in the Tidewater, one company consistently had outstanding reviews, and more of them than any other inspection business. After hiring them and being present throughout the process it was easy to see why. When Dan first called me to confirm our appointment, he made it a point to go through what they were going to be looking at in detail. It was a shock when he told me that it would probably take between *three and four hours*! I'd been through satisfactory home inspections before where the inspector was barely there for an hour. Now, this was an older (1950) home, and it had plenty of the issues you'd expect from a building of that era. Zach, our inspector, is a young, serious guy who was completely thorough and professional from the moment he arrived. Obviously Dan is careful about who he hires. Zach got right to work, knew exactly what he was looking at - and looking for - and although we didn't want to disturb him much as he went about his job, when we did have a question, he stopped and answered us with as thorough an explanation as we wanted, before continuing. From the peak of the roof to the tiny crawl space under the house, he went over every inch, and examined every system in detail, taking pictures and looking for problems, explaining to me what he was finding as I followed him around. (I let him do most of the crawling around underneath the home, but I did accompany him as far in as I dared, watching him examine every square foot, crawling under ductwork, wiping away cobwebs and narrating all the way. As far as I'm concerned, that little escapade more than earned him his money.) Just over three hours later, he was finished. But then he spent an *additional* forty minutes or so with my wife and I at a local coffee shop giving us a step-by-step summary of what he'd found and answering all of our questions. The final report was more than *60* pages long, with photos of every issue he found, categorized by order of importance. Although there were no major surprises, there were some issues Zach discovered that we're really glad we're aware of. No matter what our final buying decision is, we're completely confident that, thanks to Final Analysis Home Inspections, we really know this house. read more

Just had a home inspection with Final Analysis, and came away highly impressed. They were thorough, professional, and very easy to talk to. They arrived early, and were very prompt throughout the process. They didn't rush, but were efficient in how they moved through the home. After they finished their walk through, I got a verbal summary from Adam on his findings in the home. He also answered questions I had about a few things. They obviously know what they are doing, and have really good experience with the types of homes around here. They were also very quick to follow up with a really nice online report that you can view or print (or send to family, etc). It included pictures of the home and certain things they saw, along with tips and diagrams on repairs or best practices - things like that. Its a really good resource to have as a new homeowner. It also includes things like serial numbers and make/age of the AC, furnace etc. This has been our first home buying experience, and I was really impressed with them. Adam was awesome! He took his time going through the house and finding problems Smith and Keene technicians kept telling us were not there. We had the HVAC tech come out 5 times and kept telling us that nothing was wrong, but Adam found out there are numerous issues with our whole HVAC system, not just the air conditioner. He answered all of our questions and made us feel like we did make a good choice in picking our current home. If I ever need a home inspected in the area in the future I'll be sure to go back to Final Analysis! I would highly recommend using them!! read more

My husband and I are in the process of buying a home and we came across all of the reviews for Final Analysis while searching for a home inspector. We decided to give them a try and I'm really happy we did! Final Analysis was worth every penny and then some. Dan, Anthony, and Emily were thorough and provided photos/video of every area they inspected. When they found structural issues (literally almost buried under the house) it saved us potentially years of heartache and six figures in repairs. They gave us a preview of the report on-site, and had the report to us by that evening. Timing is critical when your inspection contingency is about to expire. Dan at Final Analysis is just the greatest! We used him twice in our home buying journey and we are so happy we did. The first home we were looking at was an 1880 farm house so Dan brought Adam and another young man ( sorry I forgot his name!). After 4 hours they were ready to show us some of the results they found. Any discrepancy was photographed or videoed for us. They were also done in an urgent, do soon, and keep an eye on list so we knew what needed to be looked after. The report for that property was 128 pages long. Well needless to say, after getting a contractor to come out to look at the discrepancies that needed to be done we chose to pass on that house. The next home we hired Dan and the team to look at was a four bedroom ranch 2700 sq ft home with an attached and unattached garage. We figured they would be in and out with such a small property. Nope, just as long and just as much attention to detail. Photos, video, this time just a 27 page report though!
