Everything I've bought from Olly's Polly's to date - mainly dog-related bits and bobs including a collar and several squeaky toys - have been of good quality. They sell Burns dog food, too, which isn't always easy to come by. Check the opening hours before you make a special trip here, because they're closed all day Sunday and Monday, and Wednesday afternoons - and then on the other weekdays when they're open, they close for an hour at lunchtime! It's a chain pet store so not exciting or unique, but the prices are reasonable and they do have a good selection of supplies for all your usual pets. They also have a small selection of pets on display. Mainly rabbits, rodents and fish. I've bought dog toys and leads etc in there before and the prices are good. My trip today was purely to entertain my son as we were at eastgate and had half an hour to kill. For that purpose it worked a treat and he really enjoyed looking at the animals and fish!

Their dog and cat food sections are pretty good, they hold our regular supply of hide bones but you can find cheaper bulk buys of snacks such as pigs ears and dried sprats online so check you aren't overpaying. The accessories and toys are priced about right though. You can bring your dog into the shop if it is well behaved, so you may turn a corner and bump into a dog, so beware if you are scared of them! The staff will often give your dog a treat at the till if they take a shine to him.

No, I wasn't treated to a bag of hay or a chew toy, my present was the furry kind, a hamster to be precise. I was really nervous (the last hamster incident I was involved in ended in blood and being mentally scarred for life) but the owner was absolutely lovely. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, giving us a full history of his current stock of hamsters and stressing that he only uses particular breeders. As this goes for all the small animals he sells, this means that customers can rely on healthy, happy and docile animals. As well as the hamster in question, we also bought all the necessary paraphernalia that one needs to take care of it. Once again the owner gave us expert knowledge on what kind of cage we needed and once we got the hamster home I rang this shop up practically every other day for advice and he was nothing but patient. Definitely recommend this place for all your pet needs, particularly if you are looking to buy a healthy, friendly pet.

I think this pet shop is fairly new, because I drive past this depressing strip of shops quite…read moreoften en route to the city centre and I'd never noticed it until recently. It sits sandwiched between some ropey-looking shops, usually with teenagers congregating outside, but if you can get past that, the pet shop itself is smart and clean enough. When I took my greyhound into the shop, the owner struck up conversation with me because he too owns a greyhound, who's usually with him at the shop on weekdays (but this was a Saturday). I'll have to pop back sometime to introduce the two dogs! The range of stock is good - including lots of packets of dog and cat food, bird food, rabbit food, hamster cages, dog beds, and most pet accessories you'd expect to find in a small, independent pet shop. It's handy if I need to pick something up urgently without going out of my way, and I'd rather support a small independent shop like this when I can rather than automatically falling back on Pets at Home every time, which is also far further out of my way.

It does get extremely busy at times and they also provide tours and experiences so it's a good idea to call before hand if you want advice.
