One word: Pandas!…read more After making my son tour many historic sights and learn lots of German history, we headed to the zoo! The enclosures bring you surprisingly close to the animals! However (IMO) the habitats to lack in true habitat and many enclosures are mini prisons; I hope this will be improved upon. I know zoos do truly care for the animals they host.

It feels a lot like their natural environment. There is a lot for everyone. For kids there are big play areas including water play areas and lot of activities to enjoy. Its a vast stretch of area and lot of beautiful stretches for a lovely walk even with a narrow stream flowing with bridges to cross in certain green tracks to enjoy your stroll. Also for kids who love dinosaur there is an entire stretch of area with life size dinosaurs that makes movement n sounds as well to give a real feel .Its so big that I feel almost a whole day feels less to explore everything. They provide free map of the area right at the entrance .For people who don't want to or like to walk a lot there is also a train to take you around the place.

We loved this place. There's a great article on line about it- which I was not able to put here in…read moremy review. Look the place up- you'll find some nice written pieces on it.. We wanted a nice bottle of wine, and a trip outside of the Mitte- so we went here. It can take awhile, if the routes are torn up (the google route did not work because of construction on the lines). So I'm not going to give specific directions- but once you find a U-bahn route this is right off the line. The station is decked out in tiles with bacchus and grapes- and look at the light fixtures, they have painted grapes around them too. You'll be asked for a deposit on the wine glasses, so if you don't speak German- don't be freaked out if your bill is 2 Euros more than the wine- that's the deposit on your glasses. You will get it back when you bring the glasses back. We tried many wines- from dry, to half dry to sweet. All were delicious. There are bakeries all around the square- some of them "bio" (organic) and there is an organic grocery store just across the street. Lots of places to eat, too.

There you can sit, drink a glass of wine and eat everything you took with you. In the evening it is difficult to find a place. Lots of people of the neighbourhood like to come here. They put their tables together, decorate them and have dinner with all the eatings they brought with them. The location is open only in the summer months and only till 10 p.m.

And that's apparently just one of three playgrounds here at Britzer Garten, a huge suburban park that's got a lake, a little train, plentiful benches and flower gardens, several snack stands and at least one very nice looking cafe on the small lake. This made a very fun outing for our crew of young European travelers (i.e., kids 4-8) who had enjoyed all the sightseeing but were also ready for a good place to just run around with the local kids. If you're going from downtown Berlin: it's only 20 minutes or so on the U-6 to Alt-Mariendorf, but you will then definitely want to take the bus to one of the park entrances. It's only a 5-10 minute bus ride -- and pretty easy to figure out once you arrive at Alt-Mariendorf -- but the distance is further than it looks on a map... and you don't want to use all your little people's energy just walking down a semi-busy street. Also, check out the map on the park's website before you go. I'd suggest aiming for one of the SW entrances (bus 179 as of this week), which are adjacent to the playground our kids enjoyed. (We entered from the North and bus 181, and there is not much up there other than flowers). Overall the park is plenty close that it's not a big deal getting there, but far enough that I'd consider it at least a half-day outing.
