Then you actually make a purchase and then try it and you're not disappointed.. I was only in Newquay for half a day and I went there three times.. and I was on a strict diet, no treats or sugary food but walking down the Newquay high street and seeing this small little shop I couldn't help myself.. it's like a little curiosity shop that you can't help but enter. Not your bog standard cafe with ugly plastic or metal chairs, but beautiful solid wood furniture even the drinking glasses are gorgeous! We ordered a variety of different meals there were four of us the first day. I have special dietary needs and nothing was too much trouble. The food was all home cooked to order and came out piping hot and well presented. Two of us had the roast dinner and even as a vegetarian I could see that my partner's beef was perfectly cooked. We were even offered extra vegetables and roast potatoes that doesn't happen very often!! The beef lasagne that my 12 year old step-daughter had was very well received and she commented on how fresh it was, especially compared to a lasagne she'd had a couple of days before in a cafe up the road which was dried up and flavourless in comparison. My 16 year old step son had a lovely home made beef burger which he was very impressed with. The desserts are also a big winner with a lovely selection of sponge puddings, cakes, pies and tarts all offered with clotted cream, custard or ice cream. We enjoyed our meal immensely, the staff were friendly and attentive and happy to cater for all our needs. A few days later on our last day we went back for another meal before returning to our home town of Plymouth and again we were not disappointed a couple of us chose from the '£7 for 2 courses' lunch menu and were impressed by the choices. My fussy 5 year old son joined us all this time and loved the home made Plum Tart with custard he chose for dessert. Having spent a lot of time in Cornwall over the years and having experienced a lot of pretty mediocre meals I can honestly say The Stepping Stones is excellent value for money and the standard of cooking and the quality of ingredients used is far superior to many other local restaurants. We will definitely be returning for more in the future. In fact we were so impressed we have thought about planning a day trip to Perranporth in the future just so we can visit The Stepping Stones again! To give a balanced review, I have been scratching my head, trying to think of any negatives to add but quite simply cannot think of any. I could say it's a pity the premises is not a little bigger to accommodate more diners but I guess this would make the dining experience less cosy and personal just make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment!

While the flavor profile did not match my tastebuds this day, the latte was superb and the milk held until the last drop. Which signals mad skills and a dedication to pulling a cup that the barista would be proud to serve in a completion. I like that. Had a slice of banana bread. Tasty. The wife had a cortado. Never got a sip. So I am certain it was good as well. I loved how asking a question about the beans of the day evoked a conversation...an actual conversation about the origins and intents of the beans they sell. It matters. Single origin and a relationship to the grower. How cool is that? Way cool. Worth the trip to Falmouth to find...but hurry up. They close at 3pm.

I have a soft spot for Panamanian coffee, as my parents lived there for a few years, but I think any objective taster would agree that this was good stuff. Anyway: perfectly pulled espresso, great temperature (hot, not warm), perfect amount of milk steamed just right. And a cute space in a good location, friendly and laid-back barista, and wonderful-smelling bags of coffee all around the shop. Oh, and a bottle of tap water provided on the table! The only problem with this place is that it's in Falmouth instead of London, so I won't visit as often as I'd like.

We managed to get a table inside, and decided on light snack of a teacake and to sample the Tregothnan tea (Cornish tea). The peppermint tea was light and refreshing, just perfect for a hot summer's day. The kitchen inside was a hive of activity, as more and more people descended on the tea rooms. We would have liked to sample more of the menu, but sadly we had a long journey ahead of us that day, but there's always the next time we visit Boscastle!
