We ran across this gem of a tea house while we were looking for a cream tea while staying in…read moreFalmouth (and wine, the other half loves any place that is a wine bar). It's a very unusual type of place, not expected for that area of the country. It reminded me of some place I would have found in Santa Cruz. The decor is quite eclectic and styled from the 1920's. The scones were very tasty (we both had the fruit scones). The tea was some of the best I've had! They use teapigs tea, and it really is amazing. We both ordered Earl Grey, but unfortunately the server was a bit flaky, and I ended up with English Breakfast. (They were both tasty, but the Earl Grey was by far superior for me!) We also ordered a cheese plate consisting of three cheeses: Fourme D'Ambert, Wookey Hole Cheddar, and an English Brie copycat. They were all great. The woman running the place asked us if we wanted French bread or oatcakes, and since I like oatcakes and the other half likes French bread, she made us a plate with both. It was served with a delicious chutney and an amazing honey. We also got a bottle of Sauncere to go with it. We had a great time. The owner's dog runs around trying to get food from all the diners (and she's adorable). We'll definitely go back the next time we're in Falmouth!

Found/went to Dollys based on Yelp reviews…read more We were driving around the area and wanted to find a place for cream tea. It looked/sounded good. All in all the food was good. The sandwiches/bread in particular were very fresh and tasty. The cream tea was good but - we're talking jam, cream, and scones. Three things that are pretty hard to not like and also pretty hard to balls up. So it was good but the scones could have been warmer/fresher. Our cups and saucers were a bit dirty. I liked the theme generally, although it seemed rather confused. It was neither traditional english, nor 1920s, nor rustic. The space was really nice but it seemed almost too kitsch-y. It kind of just looked lazy. Now the dog is so cute. I loved him/her. But there is a time and a place for a dog and by your table begging for food is not one of them. I think he/she should've been confined to the bar area not the eating part. The service was really good and everyone was really nice. I gave it 2 stars because I think it was good, but I think it could, and should've been much, much better for £4 scone + tea.

He managed to educate without insulting the knowledge of his customers…read more The coffee was a darker roast than I would like, but many who have Starbucks palates, would appreciate the refinement of that traditional dark...but no bitterness. While the flavor profile did not match my tastebuds this day, the latte was superb and the milk held until the last drop. Which signals mad skills and a dedication to pulling a cup that the barista would be proud to serve in a completion. I like that. Had a slice of banana bread. Tasty. The wife had a cortado. Never got a sip. So I am certain it was good as well. I loved how asking a question about the beans of the day evoked a conversation...an actual conversation about the origins and intents of the beans they sell. It matters. Single origin and a relationship to the grower. How cool is that? Way cool. Worth the trip to Falmouth to find...but hurry up. They close at 3pm.

Apparently this is a brand new location for Espressini, but it's already up and running nicely. I have a soft spot for Panamanian coffee, as my parents lived there for a few years, but I think any objective taster would agree that this was good stuff. Anyway: perfectly pulled espresso, great temperature (hot, not warm), perfect amount of milk steamed just right. And a cute space in a good location, friendly and laid-back barista, and wonderful-smelling bags of coffee all around the shop. Oh, and a bottle of tap water provided on the table! The only problem with this place is that it's in Falmouth instead of London, so I won't visit as often as I'd like.
