However, one inside the store, there is an overbearing, off-putting smell of patchouli. As a college student, I thought the store items were overpriced for the relatively low quality, and the clothing was not size inclusive (too many junior-sized items). The owner's unprofessional behavior is also a reason why I do not enjoy this store. I've known people who worked here, and they described what was a hostile work environment where they were subjected to verbal abuse, and I witnessed this firsthand. On one occasion, I was in line at the counter with an item in my hand, ready to make a purchase (earrings I believe?), but after hearing how rudely she spoke to an employee in front of me, I decided not to buy them. If that's how she acted in front of customers, I can only imagine how she behaves in private. The owner has been in the news for her bigoted, transphobic views, which are on display in the storefront windows. In doing this, she has clearly made a connection between her political views and her store, so this is why I find it fair to comment on them in this review. I was not a fan of this store before, but this is yet another reason not to support this business.

It is a great place to visit in spring and early summer to get those onion bulbs and choose from shedloads of different seeds for flowers and plants. Not patient enough for seeds? You are in luck! They have flowers, vegetables and herbs with a head start. Even a place for fruit trees (and shouldn't we all be planting trees!). The staff has decades of experience helping you navigate timing, species choices, de-conflicting what you plant side by side etc. They also have soil choices (bags, not bulk) and garden tools, pots, and even canning supplies. AND... The other half of White's Mill is an eclectic gift shop leaning heavily into local authors, artists, and products. It is a go-to for nature books for all ages as well as local nonfiction and fiction authors. It has local pottery (art and function), jewelry (especially turquoise), and quirky kitchen instruments. Sneaky good selection of leather belts, recycled plastic woven rugs, even puzzles. So when you need that cool gift but need ideas, when you want to support local artists, when you just want to have fun discovering clever creations, walk in and turn right behind the front counter. So go to cultivate, both in your garden and your mind. Both will lower your blood pressure and bring a smile.

The Mill was built in 1809. We parked and enjoyed the lovely flowering plants outside and then went inside to check out the merchandise and the architecture of the old Mill structure.
