What a difference the branch you choose makes! As a noncustomer, I called the Stadium branch and was told that the currency exchange
service I was looking for was not available to nonmembers. I was surprised, since a colleague (also a nonmember) had recently
exchanged USD for Euros at 5/3, although a small fee was charged. I checked on the main 5/3 website and found that this was indeed a
service that they offered nonmembers for a $5 fee. So I called the Stadium branch back and spoke with someone else, who confirmed that this was a service I could utilize. I went to my credit union, pulled out some $ and headed to the Stadium branch. The third person I spoke with when I arrived tried for twenty minutes to get this done through their system, but the system said it was not allowed.
Even using my social security and driver's license numbers were not successful. She suggested that 5/3 had likely changed their policy recently to no longer offer this service to nonmembers, but hadn't yet gotten around to updating their website. I received the branch manager's contact info before I left, so when I was told he would be back from lunch I called. Voicemail, so I asked for a callback
to help clarify 5/3's policy on currency exchange services for nonmembers. Later in the day, on a whim, I called the West Main and
Drake branch and was told "Oh, sure. We do that all the time. Just come in and we'll get you taken care of". I did, and they did; they were great! Especially Jessica, she was awesome. I was on my way, Euros in hand, in ten minutes. Remember the Stadium branch manager I left a message with? Several days have passed now and he (surprise) still hasn't bothered to call me back. read more
