I've never had to wait on hold for more than a minute when I've called them with an account question. When you call them, you talk to a real person at the bank, not someone in a call center overseas, or a robot. Their rates are very competitive; they're better than any other bank I've seen, and they're not out to nickel and dime you like most big banks are. Of course, you're going to get better savings rates with an online, high yield account, but their mortgage and car loan rates are much lower than what you'll find at a stealership, or a commercial mortgage lender. They've only got one branch, but you can use any of Commonwealth Credit Union's ATMs around town, as well as any AllianceOne network ATM. There's also a handful of shared branches across the country and state that you can use to get to your money. Did I mention they've got free online banking and billpay? I've been tempted to switch to Commonwealth Credit Union since they've got 4 branches in Frankfort and one in Lexington, but the folks at KECU just treat me right each time I come in.

After completing an application and a few emails back and forth with the loan officer, I was approved in no time and able to replace my furnace before the next freeze. The staff at KECU was very helpful and VERY patient with a loan newbie. I will definitely continue to bank with the friendly folks at KECU.

For me the latest experience with the web site has just about done me in. It is the most user unfriendly site I use. It seems to me that the site is now basically an advertising site for selling insurance and loans. I realize that these items are a revenue for the CCU but the customer still needs to be able to conduct business without spending time wading through this stuff. Commonwealth Credit Union Thinks New Members are Fraudulent…read more Need some help finding a good bank, below here is my issue. Being a new to town I wanted to find a local place to put money. I had heard that Commonwealth Credit Union was amazing. Last Friday, the 7th about 11am I open up a checking and savings. I deposited cash and also about $300 in a personal check from a Lexington bank. I found out today, even though my personal check had cleared on Monday, July 10th from my bank in Lexington. So today, they tell me I can't have my money from a check that they cashed on Monday until July,18th. That's like 8 days for them to use MY money that I cannot have. They say, every check that I deposit will have a 8 day hold because they just can't trust new members for 30 days. But they did run my credit score when I signed up and it's around 750 to 790 and still no trust in new members for 30 days. WOW! How can you have a relationship with a company that does crap like this and I am so glad I did not put a bunch of money in this account. I have never heard of this insanity, usually it's like a 3 day hold. I even offered to print out a copy of the cleared check and bing it to them and they still said they don't trust customers for 30 days. . Once my check clears on Tuesday I will be closing my account. I am new to credit unions so this non-trust might be the norm, but on the phone they acted like I was a common criminal.. if you know of a good local bank let me know this was just the star of a vacation fund.

Worst possible bank to deal with for a mortgage! Fortunately not my bank, but the person buying my…read morehouse is using this bank and they are the worst! There is no communication with realtor, buyer, or seller. You request information and they just send an e-mail to someone with no follow up. So it's up to you to constantly harass them for information and they basically just tell you what you want to hear because the same question gets answered differently the next day. The person taking your app one day will be working the teller window the next day. Nobody in this branch actually knows anything about the loans. They just e-mail all the information to another office and take the number of the next person in line. I understand mortgages are complex, but if that's how it's going to be, then why not just go with one of the bigs who can actually give you a date to close and come pretty close to it?!?! 45 days and still counting here! My bank was ready to close in 3 weeks, and it's not a big bank. They may be great for basic checking and savings, but I wouldn't advise anyone use this bank for anything as complex as a mortgage. In fact, I get the impression that the one they're doing for my buyer may just be the very first one they've ever done!
