The air valve on a tire broke due to the cheap locking mechanism on the bike. We were stranded 5 miles outside of the city, so naturally we called the owner who said he could not leave his shop, and there was nothing he could/would do to help us. We spent time finding a place to securely leave his bike, then spent 25 euro on a cab ride back to his shop. He refused to refund any of our money, or even the cab fair. I was shocked by this horrible customer service.

Hi, Bad experience with this hike hiring firm. We were a…read morelarge group of tourists (+10) and needed bikes for a week, to tour around an area of about 300 km in Belgium. We were given bikes with worn tires, and most of them did not have a frontal light. In two occasions the tires burst and the whole group had to stop for hours and look for technical assistance, as Fietsen Popelier did not help at all. They have no servicing outside Brugge (or perhaps they simply turned a deaf ear to our telephone calls). We had to buy, provide, pay and mount cameras and tires by ourselves. When we returned the bikes, we could recover the money spent on tires, that was all. If you happen to hire a bike at Fietsen Popelier, beware of faulty bikes and parts, worn tires, etc., and make sure you are going to receive a minimum assistance in case of a technical setback, specially when it was caused by the bad condition of the bike you were given.

There isn't any tour per se, but rather just a shop where you can purchase homemade beers under the label Pater Van Damme. Apparently the patriarch of the family brews the beer upstairs and sells it. They also rents bikes for a very reasonable rate. As of this writing it is €9.95 for a day. Price is very reasonable. Sandwiches are in the €5.00 range with drinker (even beer!) for like another €2.00. Thank god there is a cheap eats place that is good in this part of the world. All in all a cool spot worth seeking out! Great destination for a chill bicycle ride out of Bruges.

Had a great experience on our bike trip today with our guide Nikolas. He was very informative and…read moreshared a lot of information about the city. At the beginning of the trip, he made sure that we all had bikes that were suited for our comfort. He was considerate to different levels of bicycle riding and kept a good eye on the group to make sure nobody was lost. Additionally, Nikolas showed us some interesting parts of the city and tailored our trip to see and tell stories of things that interested or related to the group (interests and personal backgrounds). Overall, I would highly recommend this tour. Unfortunately, with all our questions and conversation, we weren't able to see some other areas of the city. I would have paid double to keep the tour going!

I didn't even get a bike here, just a mom traveling in the area…read morewith a broken stroller and in desperate need of a wrench and some WD-40 - I passed in front and thought it might be worth a shot - 15 minutes to close on a Friday night and Stefan generously lent me the much needed WD40 and wrench to get my stroller and baby back on the road. Second, you need friendly and knowledgeable staff who are enthusiastic. They got both here. I came in for some tyres and maybe a new saddle. Sadly, I hit them in a moment where what I wanted wasn't in stock (odd because they had a great selection of Bromptons on the shelf already but maybe that's why all the tyre and brooks saddle I wanted was out). No problem. I'm having a problem with my rear dynamo light on my Brompton. Dude there helped me debug it (lights broken). Noticed I had an aftermarket part on my bike and said, hey I have some stuff from NOV Design for your bike. If you don't know they are a high end parts maker out of Korea - kinda hard to come by. He goes and pulls three boxes full of parts! Amazing! I had to stop myself from buying one of everything. Totally great! They also rent bikes here too if you need one on visit. Good people + Good parts = Good shop. It's that simple. But wait, then: Good people = Good shop - Good parts. Good (people) = Good (shop - parts). people = shop - parts. Ok forget my equation. It's still a great shop.
