Over the years the Valley has come and gone as a place of work - once again I find myself picking…read morethis area back up and I decided to look for somewhere new to stay within the Marriott brand and found this relatively ( within the last 18 months) new Aloft! I am impressed! Fast, friendly check in! Room was huge, bright and comfortable, loved the black out shades, comfy beds and plenty of room to work out! Large TV with plenty of channel selections, large shower and sink area - all good! As an Ambassador member they left a very generous gift basket loaded with snacks and drinks which was a nice gesture! They have a bar downstairs and small restaurant though I did not try it! Great location, close to shops and restaurants! Will definitely stay here again!

UPDATE: 3 days after my review, I received an email from 'Giselle Perez' apologizing for the…read moreissues I experienced. Pretty much the standard 'we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations . . .' Then she also indicated she was going to add loyalty points to my account. Okay - good gesture - props for addressing and trying to 'make it right'. Then a few days later a pending credit to my credit card showed up in the amount Inwas charged for the room and I was really impressed . . . But the pending credit disappeared the next day . . . and no loyalty points have been added to my account. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy and was told that points like that post in a few days. So - unfortunately - this property made a bad experience even worse! The initial review: So - positives and negatives. After having WiFi, streaming and plug-in/USB issues at the last 3 Marriott properties we've stayed at, we figured we'd give this place a try since part of their business model is open-concept and technology. The outside of the property was nicely done with different life-sized statues. The inside was very open and looked nice. The staff at check-in were friendly. The room itself was very open concept - not my usual 'type' of room but it was actually good - very modern as well. Plenty of USB and plug-ins which was good. The bed was ok - not great - much softer than we generally like but not too bad. The pillows were heavy and full-sized -- a big plus given the industry trend towards tiny wimpy pillows. The one nightstand had a 'music station' that looked like and old-fashioned radio but which is designed to use your device to play music. Nice - but it took up 90% of the nightstand. The bathroom was fine - no issues at all - plenty of counter space and a shelf underneath. That's where the good parts end. Given the streaming issues we've had at Marriott properties lately we tried the streaming - and - it would not work. It simply would not go into any screen to allow signing in - not for any streaming platform. They sent someone to look at it and said they had to 'escalate' it. So - same story as the other properties, but it was worse here because the streaming and technology is a BIG part of their business model. So - we tried the 'regular' tv. Unfortunately, while the menu showed channels, there was no program guide so you literally had to flip through every channel to see what was on. Again, very disappointing especially given their business model. Then, at 3:47 am, we heard an extremely loud voice - sounded like they were in our room. We kinda freaked out and then we realized there was nobody in the room but it was clearly someone speaking VERY loudly from in our room. After turning on all the lights, we found the hotel's walkie talkie that they left behind the microwave when they were trying to fix the television/streaming. It was cranked up to max volume and someone was talking on it. Neither of us were able to go back to sleep and when we went downstairs to go to our morning meeting we took the walkie talkie to the front desk. Clearly they were confused but no real apology at all. So - once again a Marriott property has some issues. We are thinking it's time to cut ties with Marriott despite our rewards status with them. Something has really, really changed at Marriott properties the past year.

I previously would go to Aloft by Marriott; but because of Ivania's professionalism & recommendations when I saw her at the other Property - Ivanis is the reason why I changed Hotels while here on business in McAllen, TX. Ivania is truly a delight fresh breath of air as a welcome site when checking in at the Hotel. She is very resourceful on what the Embassy Suites can offer & that is greatly appreciated‼ And I know a good Associate when I encounter one! Thanks for bringing Ivania to your Team. I had an extremely disappointing experience at Embassy Suites by Hilton McAllen Convention Center,…read moreand I would strongly advise others to avoid this location. Upon check-in, it was immediately clear that the room had not been properly cleaned. The bathroom was in poor condition, and to make matters worse, the shower drain was clogged, making it unpleasant and inconvenient to use. Later during our stay, after attending the evening reception, my family and I attempted to enjoy the pool and hot tub--one of the main amenities advertised. Unfortunately, both the pool and hot tub had vomit in them, making them completely unusable. This was not only disgusting but unacceptable for a hotel charging over $200 per night. What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of customer service and follow-up. I attempted multiple times to reach management, leaving my name and number with the front desk, but received no response for over two weeks. When I finally spoke with the manager, Edward Hernandez, the situation was handled very poorly. He stated that nothing could be done unless I had photo evidence of the vomit in the pool--an unreasonable expectation--and offered no compensation, refund, or even loyalty points. For the price paid, this experience was completely unacceptable. The hotel is poorly maintained, and the customer service is even worse. I have stayed at many Embassy Suites locations across the U.S., and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT STAY HERE. AVOID THIS DIRTY, POORLY KEPT HOTEL AT ALL COSTS.

(We got there Friday afternoon) His customer service wasn't the best but anyway moving on to the room we get to the room and turn on the AC (yes I know you need to give it time for the room to get cold) but after a couple of minutes of turning it on there was a lot of HEAT coming from the actual ac unit and smelled like something was burning! Me having 3 kids did not want them to smell that burning smell so i called William at the front desk and he told me he was going to switch me rooms. I turned off the ac and went downstairs. William then switched me to another room Right Next Door to the room that smelt like burn. 2. The new room was very poorly kept. The chair was broken. The ac was broken. There were black marks on the walls. After constantly fiddling with the ac it worked but at this point my kids were tired and ready to take a nap. So we stayed there. 3. Saturday; BOTH elevators were broken!!! This was just the icing on the cake for me. The elevator on the left was broken when we got there but the one on the right broke apparently Saturday and everytime we had to go to our room we had to go to the third floor with 3 kids. One is an infant so of course we had to go up the stairs carrying her! Keep in mind it's sooo hot outside and there NO AC IN THE STAIRWELL!!! 4. Finally, Sunday I was ready to leave this hotel! When checking out I showed all pictures to Marcelino (new front desk) (his attitude was much more empathetic and sweet) I always take pictures of things that were broken/wrong with the room the day I go to it. And he had no words for why the room was so poorly kept. Yes bed was comfy, location was the only good thing about this hotel but tbh I rather drive all over town to get to the mall or anything than to stay here again. The amount I paid is ridiculous due to the conditions of this whole hotel! Never have I been to a la Quinta with these poor conditions .

Then we had the appointment the next day that was right at checkout time, Jessica Navarro told us we can leave our rental car there instead of paying for the paid parking by the consulate, it was only a 10 minute walk. We got our stuff done at the consulate, and she kept our luggage behind the desk for us to pick it up when we came back. The room was fantastic, the people there were awesome! Thank you Jessica and the manager on duty!

We had old-fashioned, not the best but good. A/C was great. CON'S Bed was extra firm, hard. Shower, had 2 hand-held heads problems with that was to switch the showering head to the lower head, the switch was on top showing head. The room was nice. Spacious and clean. The bathroom was clean. They have shampoo and bar soap available. The bathroom did disappoint in that I felt like even a truck stop would have a lid for the toilet. It was an inconvenience. The property is updated. Breakfast was good. Lots of got options. They even had tortillas. Someone serves you. It's like a buffet line. Our biggest issue was the closet next to our room. It made noise and off throughout the night keeping us up. We called the front desk and were told they couldn't do anything. I will admit that after a surgery, the room was comped. I would have rather had the sleep, but I do appreciate it. Parking is plentiful. The pool looked nice. I didn't use it.

I've stayed at the Drury Inn previously in Columbus, OH and had a good experience, and likewise, I had a great stay during my trip in McAllen, TX. Drury Inn is primarily geared towards business travelers, although I did encounter a few families. I observed several airline personnel (pilots, flight crews, etc.) as well as folks working construction, and in the oil/energy industry; so it's definitely a diverse clientele. Drury Inn is also known for having lots of amenities, particularly when it comes to their food offerings. Every night from 5:30-7pm, the hotel has what they call their "kick-back" where a pretty decent spread is laid out for guests. Usually a salad, pasta dishes, some type of protein (like chicken or taco meat), hot dogs, chips with cheese sauce. You can definitely fill up for dinner, if you choose. And there is also a self-service soda machine and up to three alcoholic beverages for guests of legal drinking age. Not bad at all. Breakfast is the usual array of powered eggs, sausage patties, make your own waffles, etc. Again, if you're on per diem, it's nice to be able to pop down and get some grub without busting your budget. After the 2nd day, I just got a cup of coffee and picked up some fruit since I'm not a big breakfast guy anyway. The rooms were nice enough. Kitchenette with full fridge is handy to reheat leftovers or store groceries, depending on the length of your stay. The room is configured "loft" style with separate sections for living room, desk, bed, and bathroom. Everything was fine. As is my usual complaint with most hotels, I did find the A/C on the loud side. Then again, I was in TX during June so the A/C was running 35-40 min of every hour since it was an inferno outside. Slight detraction since I was kind of disappointed by the gym, as I usually try and workout when I'm on travel. The fitness room has a few treadmills, a couple of stationary bikes, a bench, and some dumbbells. Basic, but I was able to burn off some calories on the daily. There are also washers and dryers if you need to do some laundry. If visiting McAllen, TX or the greater Rio Grande Valley area, the Drury Inn provides excellent value while also being centrally located.

Cons: -Bug in my bathtub the second night not sure from where -Dated interior design -My bathroom feels like it was made for ADA (I didn't ask for an ADA room) -The convience store puts all the soft drinks and alcohol in one fridge but then has to lock it because of the alcohol even though there's another fridge they could put all the non-alcohol items into. Seems like poor organization. Causes unecessary complication for someone looking to buy some soda or water.
