Some of the reviews below are quite humerous and i question some people's perceptions, but i will endeavour to provide as honest an assessment as i can...and this is from someone who practises at the studio twice a week...
Firstly, before you take your first class, you know that the room is going to be significantly heated...You just have to have enough mental strength and stay hydrated to be able to get through it if you aren't a regular. It really is like anything in life, you can acheive anything if you put your mind to it...
I dont understand people who say "why do they open the doors?" You are in a 39 degree room and a cool breeze for 5/10 seconds every 20 minutes is only going to enhance your class...seriously people!!! everyone looks forward to when the door opens!!
Also, in both studios, they do leave sufficient time before class for people to relax and get used to the heat...The studio is always ready 10/15 mins before the next class, ample time to chill and adjust to the heat.
The two studios. Balham is much bigger than the Fulham one, and can obviously accommodate more people...However, in my experience, even when the studio is busy, there is room to practise the postures fully and to the best of your ability without being hindered by lack of space or too many people...
I do prefer the Fulham studio, it is much quieter and smaller, so i would advise if you are anywhere in between the two locations to go to this one...
I only go to Heidi's classes, and have found that she is quite simply brilliant... she doesn't just stick to the script, and she is very, very knowledgable about the benefits of every posture. As well as this, she is particularly encouraging, and actually wants to help and improve everyone that comes into her class...You can see how attentive she is during the class and will probably make constructive comments to everyone during the 90 minute period...I think it is better to find a regular class/teacher that suits you best, as they can then help you with your strengths/weaknesses than if they only see you once a month!!
I also understand that it is hard to find quieter classes if you are working a 9/5, but sundays are usually less busy, as are the 10am and strangely 5.30pm one (at fulham) .
The decor is lovely at both studios, yes the changing areas are not the biggest but if like me you get there, drop your bag, do your class, pick up your bag, ride home and shower, then it really cannot be an issue...
All the staff are really nice and friendly, and always willing to assist you with any issue you have...
Overall, HBY is a fantastically run company in my opinion, with fantastic facilities and excellent teachers...If you put your mind to it, there are actually endless possibilities you can acheive here... read more
