This bakery is a bit of a trip back in time, but I have to say the pastries are actually pretty delicious. We stumbled in here one morning looking for some breakfast, and a middle-aged woman somewhere between despondent and exasperated served us at the counter, where we picked out a few pastries from the window case. They have lots of croissant options, including a killer chocolate-filled one that is glazed and has a ton of chocolate in it.
We asked if we could have a seat in the dining room in the back, where one other person was sitting and reading the newspaper. The woman asked if we wanted coffee, and served some us decent cafes con leche a few minutes later. The ambience is pretty sad, and looks like it was last updated in 1983, but the food and drink are cheap and decent.
The bakery also has a decent variety of chocolates, and seems to do most of their business in cake-making. The baker came out at one point with a huge sheet cake that he deposited in the front refrigerator. read more
