The bad: I felt totally unheard, misunderstood, and alienated both as a domestic violence survivor with PTSD and as someone with complicated (read as: expensive) chronic health issues. THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE: Never, ever, ever use this firm! Danielle Pettiti and Patricia Fersch knowingly, consciously, maliciously, and negligently lied to me about all laws regarding divorce in NYS! They completely undermined my entire life, effecting my well being, my health, and my very existence! They did not adhere to the laws that are mandatory in NYS, such financial disclosure. Maturation of children, I was told, was age 18. It's not. It's age 21 in nys! Division of assets, property, debt? Not even mentioned. Health insurance? They wouldn't address. I have a serious medical disease. I gave proof of ex's past income (since they did not ask him for proof) and they never looked at my evidence. According to law I was to maintain the same standard of living as when I was married. I went from upper middle class to poverty. The only thing I was left with was all the marital debt. I who stayed home raising children single-handed, and gave up dreams. I contested every single thing, only to be told nothing could be done about anything, because of this and that law, which wasn't a law at all! They inputted in the courts that my case was uncontested! UNCONSCIONABLE! I received nothing that people like Gloria Steinem fought so hard for- so woman who put aside all to raise children aren't left with nothing should a man abandon (he did) in this sexist and ageist society. Why did this happen? This corrupt firm wanted to create a facade to the world that they were philanthropic and "helpers" of woman in need- taking on some at sliding scale rates. But there's no such thing. TIME IS MONEY TO THEM, and I wasn't paying nearly the amount they wanted. So they weren't going to do the work, oath or no oath, law of lie, or if that means undermining the woman's life. Dear lord! These lawyers threw me to the dogs, and I still have no idea how to move again. They should be thrown in jail, at the very least! [As of 11/22/16, yet another "1 review" endorsement (see also all of the Yelp-suppressed reviews for this firm.) This seems to be a continuation of Fersch Petitti's attempts to manipulate their online profile. Once again, the Yelp reviews (including the ones that Yelp suppresses) tell the whole story about this firm and their ethics. I'd suggest reading all of them. Most of the positive reviewers have literally one review on Yelp, which should raise your suspicion, given that the company freely admits that it pays a service to manage its online reputation.] Anyway, I would not recommend them. I was represented by D. Petitti. She was often unprepared for meetings, had a poor command of the facts of the case, has an alarming tendency to gossip with opposing counsel, and tends to roll over in court, though talking a tough game in her office. While it's probably common for people to post negative reviews after a poor outcome, I'd note that I secured a favorable settlement. However, little of the credit for that goes to this firm. The amount of work, research, etc. that I had to do was ridiculous, and I would strongly advise that anyone who does not want to become a part-time attorney look elsewhere for representation. It's also instructive to look at the "not currently recommended" reviews for this firm, to get a sense of their ethics: note the dates. Also note the date of LM's review, and see if it changes. Currently it's dated 6/15, but was previously dated earlier. It was reposted verbatim in an attempt to get it to show up first, after I originally posted this review. Danielle: you were fairly up front about employing a firm to screen your online profile. Do I need to start linking to screenshots of changes to the Yelp reviews? Or to your online conversations about clients? Or the relationship between your firm, the firm of Lusthaus & Coffinas, and Judge Jeffrey Sunshine and his wife (clerk for the Brooklyn Supreme Court). Spelling this out, for people new to what goes on in the legal world, Judge Jeffrey Sunshine is the chief matrimonial judge in Brooklyn. His wife is the chief clerk for the court he works in. Both run a "charity" to help wives who can't afford legal representation. Fersch/Petitti and Lusthaus/Coffinas take turns helping the judge with this project of his. Then try cases in front of him, so everyone in the same room. Legal? God knows it probably is. Ethical? Google will help you. I had no idea what I was doing, but fortunately for me, I didn't have to; Danielle's knowledge and expertise was remarkable. Her ability to recall dates, events, and quote legal text books is nothing short of amazing. Danielle is one of the smartest people I've ever known. This firm deserves the 5 star rating. Danielle was my second attorney and even though I was doing well with my first attorney, I switched to Danielle of Fersch & Petitti because I believed that Danielle would be organized as this case seemed like it was going to trial. Which it did. My case involved appeals and actually several trials. Danielle was meticulous on the paperwork, prepared and had a full grasp of the facts and pertinent law. The few times I suggested different strategies that Danielle didn't agree with, Pat would act as a fair trier of facts and most of the time get me on board with their decision. The point being that with F&P you benefit from the entire firms wisdom. Not to be discounted is Maxine D. Bottom line, if you're going to have to go to trial in NY, presentation and organization of the facts are key. The hyperbole and BS are not. I used this attorney for my divorce. She has a strong reputation and seemed caring when I met her. But over time I saw that she was forgetful and that her writing was sloppy and incoherent. Some of the legal advice she gave me was flat out wrong. She was confused regarding numbers and her hands would shake in court. I have a bad feeling that she is aging and not able to stay on top of her cases anymore. She made some critical mistakes due to wrong legal advice in my case and I will pay for it for years to come. In my opinion she is getting by under the radar because of her reputation but needs to have her memory tested, or retire. She means well but legal situations are high stakes and she did not (could not) do right by me and my kids. read more
