However, the folks running this place absolutely deserve a five star review (and I'm going to book our next stay well in advance!). We stayed in the pet-friendly cabin #5 which had two bedrooms, a full bath, full kitchen, indoor jacuzzi tub, fireplace, powerful heating unit, and a beautiful front porch with a swing overlooking a pasture and mountains. We drank our coffee here as we watched the sunrise each morning. The cabin interior had every amenity you could need- pots, plates, utensils, coffee maker, paper goods, fresh towels. The decor inside the cabin was so cute and cozy. The other cabins are spaced well apart for privacy and there is a common picnic area up on the hill with a large grill, fire pit, tables and chairs; the sunset views up here are beautiful. I mostly spoke with Sonya who was so kind and also cleaned the cabin before our arrival. Everything was sparkling clean and the fireplace was lit for our arrival. We couldn't be more pleased with our stay and we didn't want to leave. We can't wait to return with friends and family. During our stay, we hiked several spots along the parkway, but our favorite hike was over in Buffalo Mountain preserve (30 min from the cabin) for the most beautiful 360 degree view at the peak (be advised it was pretty strenuous and muddy with all the recent rain). And we also highly recommend Buffalo Mountain Brewing/McDaniels Tavern for a beer and a bite to eat after your hike.

The gas grill on the back deck overlooking Chestnut Creek is always clean and ready to go. Having the New River Trail right beside the cabins is so convenient to ride your bikes or go for a walk. We always see wild life......Deer, Geese, Rabbits, Ground Hogs..... After a long bike ride returning to the cabins and jumping in the Awesome Jacuzzi tub is the perfect end to a perfect day. First, the pictures available online don't do justice to the beauty of the location. The cabin sits just above a burbling stream. It lies at the end of a mile-long gravel road with plenty of up-and-down, blind corners, and two gates. This feels like a truly secluded spot. It is visible from the road, which is just on the other side and above the stream. But, as we experienced in late July, the dense foliage obscures the cabin. The cabin itself is both well-equipped and rustic. The kitchen has most utensils and cooking equipment, including a rice cooker, electric skillet, toaster oven, microwave, etc. everything was older but clean and functional. There is a single full bathroom with shower and a half bath upstairs. A washer-dryer set is very helpful. Internet access is a plus because cell service is spotty or nonexistent. For fellow jigsaw puzzlers, the kitchen table is perfect for a 1000 or 1,500 piece challenge. The deck is absolutely lovely. Given the location, the sun didn't hit the cabin until mid-morning, and never fell under the roofed portion of the deck. We were able to sit outside from early morning to evening in relative comfort. We brought citronella candles, which kept the bugs away - but those weren't bad at all. The owners ask that you removed the trash and clean up upon leaving - a usual request. They also ask for guests to wash and dry the sheets and sweep/mop upon leaving - a less common ask. The bedding was adequate. Older pillows and a firm, creaky master bed could be updated. This is not a touristy area. Those lie north and east of here. We brought all of our own food. If you plan to eat out, or shop out regularly, you will need to drive some distance/time. Within an hour's drive - and you will need to travel to take in the area and get supplies - are several wonderful spots. Be sure to hike Stone Mountain State Park. What a beautiful, well-maintained park! Bring your bikes and complete the 20-mile round trip rail-trail between Todd and Freeport. Gorgeous, easy ride along the New Fork River. Get baked goods at the Todd Mercantile store. Boone has some shopping and organic groceries, but is a solid two-hour round trip. Looking for adventure. Drive north on the main road, take the gravel road (left) at the fork, and follow the mountain road about 5 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of us enjoyed that very much; the other less so given the hairpin turns and steep drops. We definitely recommend Blue River Cabin.

The cabin is spacious, spotlessly clean, and supplied with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing, totally peaceful getaway. Falling asleep to the sound of the rushing water and waterfalls ...well, it just doesn't get any better than that. The rain on the roof was a nice part, if it had to be raining. Our second trip was in The Mill House because we brought our dog. This is the one pet friendly cabin they have. Our most recent trip was in Deer Run, because our big kid wanted the loft. The loft is very roomy! My mother was from Elkin, so I like to visit the area. Nice day trips to the parkway, Stone Mountain, Mt. Airy, or even Blowing Rock. Of course, downtown Elkin is nice, too! The staff has always been responsive of any issues during any of our stays. I hear the wine tours are great, but we haven't tried any ourselves.

do not rent from this lady. we had no wifi as promised. also the jacuzzy was nasty when we got…read morethere. there is no comfortable furniture in the cabins. she tries to over charge you for cleaning. my wife and i left 2 days early. the fire place did not work. we called the owner 10 to 12 times she never did call back. she came to the cabin the next day to give me wifi code could not get connected. she told us the fireplace did not work. we tried to reach her by phone again 4 or 5 times. went and ate breakfast and the waitress said she had been there no long before us. we went to the antique shop and she was not there so we called again and left a message that we were leaving. got home and never heard from her. the pictures are not the same way the place looked it was overgrown. we were also told we could not have a out side camp fire. i would not recomend renting from this coumpany. she would not return any money. robert miller

We made it safely in a Honda Civic. This place is great. When you sit on the upper front porch you can hear the stream running down below. It has a loft, kitchen, bedroom and beautiful fireplace. Fully furnished with everything you may need. Within driving distance of Prayer Mountain. We love this place and had a great time. We look forward to coming again.

I really enjoyed studying the paintings, hangings, and decor on higher areas. Horizontal surface area within reach was at a premium, as we had to move some of the decor to make room for our stuff: books, laptops, phones, etc. If you're visiting during colder months and love tending a real fire in the fireplace, be sure to contact the host ahead of time to ensure firewood, etc. is ready and waiting on arrival. The garden is beautiful and the couch on the porch is really comfy. I'd suggest bringing your own throw blankets if you like to curl up in front of the fireplace on the couch. The ones we brought were washable and soft, much more practical than the one decorating the couch. We like to know what we're wrapped in is freshly washed. There are no window coverings! The cottage is truly isolated and the only visitor we saw was a deer walking by the windows. I walked outside while my wife showered at night and found anyone can see in through the steamed up windows. But then again, you're surrounded by forest. The kitchen is small and cute. We brought stuff to warm up in the microwave so it was fine. The fridge was big enough to hold the food we brought for 3-4 days. Cooking a big meal would be a challenge. The WiFi is useless for anything but email. I measured the upload and download speeds by accessing a speed measuring website. The download speed was 200x slower and the upload speed was 800x slower than what I have at home. And I don't have the highest speed offered in my area at home. Dugspur is truly rural. You feel like you are deep in the heart of farms and ranches. In October it was very picturesque. On Sunday we went to IC DeHart Memorial Park to walk some of their trails. It was a 45 minute drive, but well worth it. It was the second week of October and most of the trail was covered with beautiful fall leaves. We took the yellow trail and walked the 3 miles in just under an hour. You want drive past the tennis courts to park by the picnic area, which has toilets with running water. They were out of toilet paper so come prepared. The trail meanders through beautiful woods, and ends back at the DeHart family graveyard. The tombstones tell their own history through several family generations. We talked to a local woman who takes her dog on walks there frequently. She said that the hot summer months are a completely different experience. In August her dog got stung by many hornets while walking the trails so her dog is no longer willing to walk those trails. Hiking in cool October was a great experience with no pests, so plan accordingly. On our way back we enjoyed some ice cream at the town of Floyd's general store. There was an outdoor concert of Latin music for anyone that wanted to sit and listen. It wasn't crowded and several families brought picnics. Instead of heading straight home to Northern VA on Monday, we made a slight detour to walk the High Bridge trail in Farmville, by the Appomattox River. There's a parking lot with restrooms one mile from the bridge. There's no need to go to the state park to park. If you don't want to walk, you can rent bikes in town. Lots of families were doing that. The historical markers explained the bridge's role at the end of the Civil War when Lee surrendered to Grant. The bridge is impressive. Looking down from the bridge was a bit unnerving for me as I don't enjoy heights. We walked the trail down to the river, under the bridge, and then back up the other side. It was a beautiful hike and seeing the old original bridge supports made me appreciate how much amazing engineering was done back in the 1800's. Because of the detour we took to Farmville, we were on back country roads all the way to Culpeper before we hit the divided highway there to take us the rest of the way back to NoVa. It was a beautiful drive on well-maintained two-lane roads and we made good time.

The wrap-around porch was a favorite spot for our family... perfect for morning coffee and relaxing evenings together. My family enjoyed game nights , painting and breakfast on the porch. It's ideal for large families or groups, with plenty of room so you never feel crowded. The entire space felt cozy, welcoming, and thoughtfully put together. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to cook, which made meals easy and enjoyable. A special highlight for us was the Cuban coffee machine, it truly saved us and made mornings even better! The owners have thought about everything to make sure your stay is extra enjoyable. You can tell that every detail was considered to make guests feel at home. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and would absolutely come back again.

It was fun to tour 4 vineyards in one day all with delicious local wines. The cabins are fully made of log which gives it a true country feel and the views from the wraparound deck are surreal. We tried some of the activities nearby and everyone had a blast in the parks by Charlotte, hiking in Stone Mountain, and in the cabin itself. The cabin was very spacious and comfortable for the entire group.
