We understand that doctors, surgeons, and nurses are busy, but communication with a patient's family should not be treated as an afterthought, especially when the patient has hepatic encephalopathy, a condition that can make it difficult to accurately remember or relay medical information. Every morning, doctors would evaluate my mother and explain her treatment plan to her, but our family was almost never contacted afterward. We were expected to get important medical updates from someone who was not always capable of communicating them accurately. One example was when my mother's hematoma was drained. None of us knew the procedure had even been scheduled until we arrived at the hospital and found her already being prepared. As the people listed on her chart to receive medical information, we should not have been finding out about major procedures at the last minute. Trying to get updates ourselves was just as frustrating. We would call the nurses' station asking to speak with a nurse, only to be told they were too busy and would call us back, or we would sit on hold until the call disconnected. Most of the time, we never received the promised callback. This review is not meant to criticize the staff who worked hard to care for my mother. It is about a communication system that repeatedly failed our family during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Families deserve timely updates, returned phone calls, and communication that recognizes when a patient is unable to reliably relay important medical information. I sincerely hope Saint Francis improves its communication with authorized family members so other families do not have the same experience.

This isn't a "drive by" doctor. He takes the time to listen, assess and explain. That is fairly rare these days. In addition the staff at his office is pleasant and accommodating. Again, very rare. Went on a search for a new doc, but I changed my criteria for what I needed. Decided to go for a female (mostly because a woman will STILL have to work 3 times harder than the men on either side of her thus I feel better about her competency wise). After looking at a couple of candidates I went with Dr Janjua. Best decision I made that year. Since then I have a doctor who actually gives a crap AND is incredibly knowledgeable and technically proficient. If there an issue she will move me into her schedule as quick as possible and loops my other doctors in as needed. I've been so impressed I recommended her to my son and he has also been very pleased. Her specialty is internal medicine which at my age is appropriate. I can't recommend her highly enough.

She then told me after the fact that she had taken a swab to test for an infection from a previous visit, but didn't inform me what infection she was testing for or anything like that. She then told me she was switching my birth control but gave me zero information about what the new birth control was, if it had any different side effects, gave me no alternative options for birth control, and gave me no time to ask questions or express any other concerns before walking out the door without another word. Would not recommend going to her.

I never have a problem getting an appt with her when I need her. She is knowledgeable and very competent at her job. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a PCP!
