This location is very convenient if you're in Great Neck. Several employees inside like Marvin, Lenny, and Sal are outstanding and the warehouse gentlemen like Edgar and Mike are class acts all the way. The lumber is decent quality.
Other than that, I don't think Feldman Lumber is that great. I think a lot of things here including tape, caulking, and paint are overpriced.
The parking situation here can become absolutely insane. Feldman appears to do a lot of big volume deliveries, and when they do, everything else stops. The driveway will become inaccessible.
In that case be careful and carefully read signs regarding street parking! The Great Neck Estates Police will patrol and give tickets. Even when there aren't deliveries it's difficult to park here. It's the automotive equivalent of trying to land a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier.
One time they sold me lumber, and told me I'd have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up. They didn't tell me this until after I paid for the lumber!
Fortunately one of the guys outside found time to give me what I needed even though he was busy prepping the big delivery order.
Also they do not take returns on lumber, which is a bit inconvenient. Home Depot and Lowe's will return. Even smaller lumber yards like Burt Lumber take returns.
One time I even lost a credit card at this location. I made the charge, I walked outside to the lumber area to pick up my lumber. Less than one minute passed and I knew I lost my card! I retraced my steps -- nothing. I suspect I was pickpocketed. Be careful when shopping here!
This is a good place to go if you got a big volume of lumber to utilize in the Great Neck area. Otherwise I will from now on try to be absolutely sure to know exactly what I need early in the morning and buy from Burt Lumber or Home Depot. I find it way too stressful to shop here. But because it's the only game in town, I will have to. read more
