I retained the attorney to represent me in a divorce matter. The representation lasted approximately two weeks. During that period, I was billed more than $7,000 in legal fees. To my knowledge, the attorney did not file any documents with the court on my behalf during the time he represented me. Most of my communications were handled by the attorney's associate rather than the attorney himself. Based on my review of the invoices and the limited scope of work performed during that short period of representation, I believe the fees charged are excessive and disproportionate to the services provided. Major red flag. Move on. If a Divorce lawyer can't handle a simple negative review without resorting to vague, dismissive legal jargon, imagine how they handle actual challenges in your court case--especially if things don't go in your favor which happens often in Family Court. I can't go into more details. But, go else where. Let's just say any Divorce lawyer that responses to real people that leave important 1 star reviews on yelp with the below type of legal psycho babble response. STAY AWAY FROM. Just imagine how they would respond in real life on your case when, you call them out. There Responses often say the following: "Professional rules regulating the California Bar constrain us from responding in detail. We state that the review is neither a fair nor accurate picture of what occurred. It misrepresents the facts of this matter, and those that are factual are taken out of context. We perceive that the comments contain misrepresentations." (of course they would say this out of context stuff. Our first amendment right says leave the proper review and then "Stay far way from Mr. Waller") read more

I hired this firm with a $20,000 retainer and after six months when nothing was done (no communication with the courts. No RFO was sent in no documentation whatsoever on my divorce case) I requested a refund and long story short they said if I left a positive review, they would give me a refund. I have since took that review down, but I question most of the five star reviews. Sorry, not sorry for getting my refund and leaving a crappy review but 2025 is my year of justice and honesty. read more

Obviously this entire review is my opinion and my opinion only. This guy is a real piece of work. From my point of view Marshall Waller comes into a situation with confidence oozing from every pore on his body and he will let you know of all the things he can do. He plays guitar, he is a math wizard, he studied physics and was considered for the NASA program. The only problem is the one job he does do, attorney, in my opinion he is terrible at. What this firm does is stick you with a very young and inexperienced attorney. Mine graduated in 2023. They are the one you will speak with on a regular basis. When it comes time to make any big decisions then you will be on a conference call with this young attorney and Marshall Waller. In my opinion it feels like Marshall comes in to sell you on keeping the case going longer. I feel if you start to question the billing or what the case is costing you, they seem to lose interest in defending you very quickly. In my case there were three times that I could have settled and come out better than what happened in the end. In my humble opinion I felt like Marshall was guiding me to not accept those settlements but doing it in a way that allowed him to say he never said "I shouldn't accept the settlement" thus giving him some cover. I was told many times that the other side had no case and they couldn't believe they even filed it in the first place. This obviously emboldened me to carry on when my gut instinct was to just settle. I didn't go to law school so I differed to the guy that did. Boy, did that cost me. I will add that I made similar statements to my friends and family that other one star reviewers have said. I felt he didn't take me seriously because I wasn't an A-list Calabasas resident and I started to think that they didn't know my case anywhere near as well as I did. In the conversations I had with him I would bring up concerns and he would just wave them off or act like I was wasting his time. Now I believe it's because he wasn't well informed about my case. We get to the court date and I'm there with the young lawyer I have been dealing with from the start. All she seemed to be doing was carrying a box that was a quarter full with papers, Marshall showed up 15 minutes later than he said he would and we sat around waiting for my case to be called. I have no problem with this, but I was wondering why I was paying for two lawyers to sit with me. Marshall was also set on getting an evidentiary hearing for me in the future. I couldn't understand why? He had all my information and as I said I was told the other side had no case. I spent hours pulling emails and other documents to help defend myself before this court hearing. He could have countered everything the other attorney said that day if he had been prepared, but I believe he wasn't. While I was sitting outside the courtroom I suddenly began to panic. I felt Marshall and the other lawyer were slowly singing a different tune than they were before we got to court. Now they weren't too certain I was going to prevail. I think this attitude started when I told them wanted to just fight my case that day and not add more hearings to the future. They were right about the case not going my way. I'm not even certain why Marshall or the other lawyer were there. I really think he made no attempt at putting on a real defense for me and the other lawyer didn't even speak. When I tell you I thought I was thrown to the lions that would be an understatement. I felt he rarely countered anything the other attorney said and sometimes even agreed with them. I spent more time defending myself then he did. If I said something that would be considered a good argument I would hear him grab onto it and repeat it. I had two friends in the court room and they told me they were horrified by how inept Marshall looked. In the end I lost 600 dollars a month in support and the support was reduced to one year when the original agreement had me collecting for another 9 years. Outside the courtroom Marshall tried to spin it as a win and directed me to file more RFOs. I recall him saying "You could do it on your own". He also told me the outcome wasn't bad for me. I was still getting money. I said "it might as well be zero". I remember him saying, "you could give me that money every month". Again, in my opinion this guy loves his money. I told him he was getting far more money from me than this judgement would give him. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this law firm as possible. I will give you one piece of advice. Look into Shannon Bailey Family Law in Burbank. She represented the other side against me and I thought she was very impressive. Pay attention to these one star YELP reviews. I wish I had. PS - After speaking to other one start reviewers here, I have filed a complaint with the Bar regarding Mr. Waller and this case. read more

In my honest and straight forward opinion, this group was horrible! All they seem to have done was drag out my simple divorce, costing my countless hours and dollars. No children and no real-estate. How is it, that as a nurse, I am paying alimony to an ex that was abusive in all forms. She even shot a gun off in our home to get attention. This firm had no intention of protecting me or my hard earned wages. They offered no advice. Instead, I had to reach out to my ex to form a compromise. Paying $3200 per month in alimony to an abusive ex is awful. When I attempted to tell them how poorly they were doing, they threatened me by stating they would not be going forward. I was trapped. They made me feel that I could not back out and seek another firm. Hiring Wallers firm was one of my worst mistakes ever and in my experience Hali is just a terrible person/lawyer all around. read more

If there were negative stars to check on this page, I would've selected the worst service received. I wish I had checked the reviews before signing and paying the retainer agreement with this man. Unfortunately for me, I did not. Please listen to all the bad reviews, they're true, word by word. This man is a crook with a license to steal your time and money, it seems that this is his pattern of unethical behavior against his unknowing clients. Unless you're a socialite or part of his book of VIP clients(If any actually exist), you will only get attorneys that have just graduated from law school with literally zero experience in actual cases(Please double check their legal experience by doing a simple license search at the BAR's website). After going back and forth between me and one of his new associates for at least 4 months, and by carefully reading my motion, I found out, that this attorney was seeking sanctions against me! And she did not seem to know the difference between the Petitioner and the Respondent! Further, your money will be drained faster than your hands can count. After about 6 months of delays and continuances for failure to serve the opposing party, I took matters into my own hands, and finally, the Respondent was served WITH MY HELP, and I was charged for that! Because of his gross negligence, and lack of legal action against the Respondent, I lost all my properties under his watch without him lifting a single finger to prevent that from happening. What he managed to do, was to issue a notice to withdraw himself from my case once I began questioning his billing tactics and raising concerns with the associates assigned to my case. Based on my personal experience, Waller's goals are to make matters more complicated and expensive for his clients by raking up the legal fees and making his money at your expense. To sum it up, in about a year and a half since we filed my motion, I lost my properties, lost well over $50K in attorney fees that were duplicative as part of his strategy of switching inexperienced associates to review, organize, copy, and do research in my case, thus, prolonging it as much as possible charging as much as possible, with no results. If my motion would've been properly drafted, filed, and served, it would have been before a judge no later than the latter part of 2021, instead, I kept hearing that my case would be continued over and over again, with meritless excuses. I warn you, be prepared to see a motion for Waller to withdraw himself from your case once you begin questioning his billing tactics, and moral ethics. Can't urge you enough to be very careful and to stay as far away from this crook and his firm as you can. Don't believe the 5-star reviews, I'm sure those are paid likes. I'm positive you will see a whole bunch of them out of nowhere after my review is posted on his page. Ps. - Waller, I am certain now, that I am not the only victim that you've defrauded throughout your career. I will be filing a complaint with BAR, to make sure that you are held accountable, and disciplined according to the codes in The California Rules of Professional Conduct. I would never recommend this firm for any family law matters. Marshall Waller's firm is among the highest rates around and clearly cater to the highly affluent client base in their Calabasas and Beverly Hills locations. As such if you are not a multimillionaire, do not expect to receive the level of service that one would expect commensurate with their lofty billing rates. Mr. Waller's firm charged me a substantial amount of money during the 18 months that I used his firm in my divorce, and I literally have nothing in return for it. No financial settlement, no judgment, no custody agreement written. Just lots of ineffective emails back and forth with opposing counsel generating nothing but continuous billable hours for his firm and no value added to his client. His total fees charged were twice that of my spouse's attorney. And most appalling of all was that after sending an email to Mr. Waller after receiving one of his recent $7,000 monthly bills telling him that I was not pleased with his significant bills with no meaningful progress to justify the bills, Mr. Waller promptly informed me of his intent to withdraw from my divorce, only days before we had a scheduled court appearance. And at that time I had never missed or been delayed in paying any of his bills throughout the 18 months of the divorce! You see once Mr. Waller knew that I questioned him on his lack of effectiveness and high fees with lack of progress, he knew the jig was up and without even a phone call to me he promptly requested his withdrawal through an email (again after 18 months of using his firm). Whether or not Mr. Waller's behavior was in fact within the professional ethical code that lawyers are sworn to abide by will be determined by others. In my opinion his actions clearly were not ethical. read more

My husband and I have filed a complaint with the state bar and filed a case against waller for elder abuse as he tried desperately to take advantage of my aging husband in a very sad and trying situation. Thank God with the help of an actual honest attorney and a fantastic doctor at UCLA we were able to get away from this monster. He forced my unwell and aged husband to file actions that he did NOT want and charged in excess of $20,000 in less than three weeks for text messages and phone calls.
