I highly recommend the 'Feet for Life' center, Dr. Horwitz and his staff. This was an amazing experience and I left the appointment feeling informed and highly valued. I found my way to Feet for Life after several pedicures at the Clean Spa. I didn't realize Clean Spa is actually owned by Feet for Life. I started experiencing recurring foot pain and decided I would make an appointment. I was able to easily request an appointment using the website. I received a call from the office the next day to finalize the date and time. Arriving at the office in Chesterfield, I noticed it was nice, clean and very relaxing. I found the exam to be more thorough than ones I've had in the past. The staff was very attentive and caring. They took there time in talking to me and I didn't feel like 'just another patient in a busy office'. Dr. Horwitz took the time to fully explain my options. One thing I liked about him is that he acknowledged some options were expensive, but it was my final decision to choose what I thought was the best plan for me. I really appreciated the fact that he did not try to steer me into something. We discussed long term goal and he allowed me to ask as many questions as I needed to. He is very personable and nice. So is the staff. Feet for Life gets 5 stars because they are quality focuses and patient friendly. I highly recommend Dr. Horwitz, especially if you suffer from foot pain and ongoing issues not resolved by your current/previous podiatrist. read more

I'm amazed to see the negative reviews here because my experience was the opposite (and there are 538 great reviews for Dr. Horwitz on the "healthgrades" site which I think is more reliable for medical reviews.) I was experiencing calcification of my Achilles tendon and bone spurs. I first went to another podiatrist who told me I would need surgery involving detaching and reattaching the tendon with 3 full months off my foot. I was desperate to find a different treatment and through Feet for Life, I did. Dr. Horwitz recommended Electromagnetic Pulse Therapy (EMPT). My appointments (initial, procedural and follow up) all went very smoothly. Appreciate the friendly staff. Best of all, I experienced 100% pain relief immediately after the procedure. read more

I first went to Feet for Life in November of 2020 after dealing with pain in my feet that got progressively worse for months to where I feel I needed medical treatment. At the time, I was 22 years old, very physically active, and in good shape. I saw Dr. Horowitz, who took x-rays of my feet and noted the outward angle that my feet pointed at. Within 10 minutes of meeting me, he recommended surgery to correct the issue. The HyProCure implants would be put into my subtalar joint to support a bone and ease my pain. I was told there would be a speedy recovery and my pain would be alleviated. I wish I never trusted Dr. Horowitz. As of the time of this post, it has been about 11 months (December 2020 were the initial surgery dates) since I first got an implant in my left foot, with an implant in the right two weeks to follow. These surgeries have completely derailed my life. Before surgery, I dealt with swelling on the inside of my feet and burning in my arches with prolonged standing or physical activity. Since the surgery, I have dealt with spasms and intense pain when standing that radiates throughout the bottom of my foot and to the site of the implant. It feels like my heels are being driven into the ground, like I'm too heavy for my own feet. I cannot stand barefoot without pain. Shoes give me about another minute or two before the pain sets in. I cannot walk for more than a minute without pain. I cannot run. I cannot jump. I've gained weight. The mental struggle is as bad as the physical. I'm devastated. I was not given an order for physical therapy after surgery. Upon hearing of my constant pain, Dr. Horowitz did two rounds of cortisone shots in both of my feet. Still no improvement in my pain. After 6 months, I had the implants removed in June of 2021. Dr. Horowitz told me in a follow up it was "only the FIRST OR SECOND TIME" that he's had to remove the implants. I feel like I would remember that number precisely. 11 months after the first round of surgeries, the pain still keeps me from living a normal life. These surgeries have completely ruined me. I've gained weight and struggled immensely with depression. I'm now 24 years old and feel like I have lost so much. I've done physical therapy for a couple months now. While my strength and flexibility of my feet have improved, the pain still keeps me from living a normal life. I went to a Foot and Ankle specialist recently, a licensed medical doctor (not podiatrist), and he said he has done multiple removals of these implants because people don't like them. He said the best course of action is to wait the next 6-9 months to see how my feet will feel for the rest of my life. He gave me cortisone shots, which proved to be little more than a pitiful attempt to resolve the pain from surgery. A 10 minute appointment has lead to a year of pain and suffering. Thankfully I am still on my parents' insurance, as I'm sure I would be enraged if I threw so much of my own money away at Feet for Life. As I lay here in bed as I have for all of 2021, ignoring the twitching in my feet, all I think is that I wouldn't want to wish this experience on anyone. I feel completely hopeless. The laser fungal removal services that is offered here is a scam. I paid around $1,000 for 1 toenail affected by a fungus and that was a year and a half ago and my toe still looks the same. $1,000 for NO results. Every time that I go to the office and raise concern they say oh just continue to use the medicine but nothing ever gets better. It's outrageous what they charge to run a laser over my toe once a month for 3 months and still no results. I wouldn't pay this money again for a fake service if I had to do it all over again. read more

The treatment they gave me for my fungus worked however every time I'd go in for an appointment it would always take a MINIMUM of 45 min after my appointment time to be seen. Set at least 2 hrs aside when scheduling!! Also they will do x rays no matter what when you come in for your first appointment - so unless your going in for a fracture (I only was there for fungus) they will give both your feet x rays so expect that charge. read more

I have never had a doctor visit so bad in my life. If I could give zero stars I would. Let me start by saying that my wait was over an hour. It appears as if they rescheduled patients from a different day and added them to this day's schedule. My appointment was with Dr Shah. Her attitude was off from the start...very rushed, short, and somewhat unkind. I was having two issues one of which was a nail fungus. My toes are polished. I brought remover to use if necessary. The assistant told me that it was not, so I did not remove. Dr Shah addressed my first concern but told me that I would need to come back for the nail fungus issue. She stated that she did not have time for me to remove the polish and that I needed to schedule another appt since it was a separate issue. (Keep in mind there is an entire mail spa in their suite.) And so my time and health and money are not valued in that I am expected to use additional sick leave time, spend another $50 copay, spend an additional 30 min drive to and 30 min from, and spend God knows how much time waiting during the next appt...I don't think so. I have had several appointments in the past with a different doctor who is no longer there. This was my first visit with Dr Shah and my last...unfortunately it will be my last for Feet For Life as well. Not how I wanted to start the new year! read more

Nothing like a surprise $957 bill for lab tests for one toenail ! ! ! Dr. Horowitz is on my insurance list of podiatrists, and I had heard good things about him. And except for my copay and some Tolcyclen, I got no other bill from them. However, 5 months later, I got a bill for $957.82 for analyzing a toenail with thick fungus. Charges were $1680.88. Insurance paid $723.06. I wondered why he even sent this off. Had I known, I would NEVER agreed to this. And they want their money in 21 days. Who can afford that? Great clinic for affordable toenail fungus laser treatment. I noticed my big toe's nail was changing colors and texture... eek toenail fungus!! I had a toenail fungus years ago from a bad pedicure and it took forever to get rid of. Over the counter creams were hardly effective so I was googling trying to find more options and was seeing that laser treatments had much better results. But laser costs could be $1,000 plus at some of the chains! Thankfully I found the YouTube videos from a Doc at this clinic explaining laser treatment and their price was much better! "DO NOT GO SEE DR. MICHAEL HORWITZ" I spent $500 at Feet For Life and did exactly what they instructed in order to cure the pain in my left foot, including a cortisone shot and purchasing an extra $85 pair of Vibram FiveFingers shoes. This brand of shoes is now the subject of a $3.75M class-action lawsuit. But when I returned for my follow-up appointment, Dr. Michael Horwitz couldn't be bothered to show up. I repeat -- he never showed! No explanation, no advanced warning, no nothing. And this is after I drove two hours from Columbia, Mo. Nor did Horwitz return phone calls or emails when I tried to contact him to ask what happened. We all know how frustrating it can be when an outfit switches doctors on you without warning. The doctor in Horwitz's place wanted X-rays -- which I had already taken, and therefore had to pay for again -- and recommended a complicated surgery called "tarsal coalition." Note this diagnosis was completely off. I obtained a pair of high-tech orthotics from another doctor, which effectively cured the pain overnight. Contrary to the response below (which reads as if it were outsourced), surgery is never a "simple" procedure. And to recommend an unnecessary surgery goes beyond negligence and borders on incompetence. Thanks for nothing, Feet for Life. I don't like to post negative reviews, but their behavior was inexcusable. For most nonsurgical conditions, I recommend Dr. James Neuwirth of the St. Louis Center for Functional Medicine. read more

My treatment was poorly done; an ingrown toenail should be simple. Mr.H (I will not call him doctor if he can't do an ingrown toenail)wanted to do surgery to kill a nerve, when I said no he was still setting up to do it. He gave in and cut the nail dwon half way and then cut it at a right angle. It was worse than when I came in. I didn't notice it until I got home and the pain was unbearable. I had to use a nail file, a razor blade and scissors to get the embedded nail out. That was just half of it. The billing is still wrong and I am refusing to pay the 50.00. Mr. H should be paying medicare back and me for pain and risk. The manager is well trained to avoid the issues, talked in circles and would not listen to why I wasn't paying. I was not very happy with the practice. The wait is absolutely horrible. I waited over 30 mins both times and saw the Dr. Horwitz for less than 15 mins combined. It took me 3 follow up phone calls to get an appt for an injection that Dr. Horwitz recommended. I canceled the appt. I decided to get a second opinion from an Orthopedic specialist. I'm glad I did because I was told that the injection would have made my situation worse. The Ortho doc told me that I had a broken bone in my foot. Dr. Staschiak takes the time to explain what is going on, how to work through the problem (surgical and non-surgical) and the steps for each solution. The doctor's office claimed they received pre-approval from our insurance company for my husband's foot surgery. After the surgery was completed, we find out they were out of network and knew the entire time without informing us. Then, they highly inflated all of the charges and submitted a claim to our insurance company for $23k. After calling them with our insurance company on the phone they claimed they only received approval for the doctor and not the facility. Wow. How would a patient know that the doctor would be covered and not the facility? Yes, my husband should have done his due diligence and called our insurance company as well. However, we were intentionally misled. Now, we had to pay 3x what we would have had they been in network as we were told. Do NOT seek treatment here. read more

Went to see Dr. Horwitz , on June 12, 2018 just to get a consultation on my right foot bunion X-rays were taken on my feet the Dr. came in spoke to me about procedures he would do he stood there and stated in front of assistant "this is only a consultation and you won't be charged" a month later I received a bill for X-rays 62.00 ok I can see that but my Insurance was billed $682.00 one charge was for surgery I was there in office for about 10 minutes on a consultation what surgery could I have had sounds like fraud my insurance company is going to investigate. I also was charged a copay I payed up front now I get all these other charges $222.00 for the doctor and $274.00 for Surgery what is going were is the honesty among Doctors I understand it's about money but at least deliver the services then charge the patient. read more

I have had heal pain for 1 1/2 years. I went to Dr. Horowitz (who has an excellent bedside manor) and great reviews on his website. He told me right away about the new laser therapy they use and there is virtually no down time. I was excited and went through with the procedure. After following all the instructions post-op, about a week later my heal pain returned. I returned to the doctor and he informed me that 5% of his patients do not do well with it so I now needed a partial fasciectomy where he releases just part of the fascia. Again, I trusted in them. Keep in mind I have already spent over $800 and my insurance company was billed $30,000 (this is not a typo) for the first procedure. So I was a little hesitant but could not go any longer with the heal pain. Went through the procedure and again heal pain was still there just as before and to the same intensity. I was billed for the surgery center and anesthesia but again my insurance was billed. I came back in time after time. Had x-rays, cortisone injections, creams, various boots, heel lifts, and inserts, which isn't cheap. So after all this, he said he didn't know what else to do....and sent me to a colleague at a different location. I decided to see a doctor, not the one Dr. Horowitz suggested, explained everything to the new doctor and he ordered an MRI right away, results came back that I had several tears in my Fascia and I needed to be cast! After being cast for 4 weeks, so far my heel feels great. I called Dr Horowitz office to ask if they ordered MRI and the person who answered the phone was not very nice, she did however tell me that the Dr. does order them. Just wondering why he didn't do that before the second surgery? Would have saved me so much money and time. read more

I took my 13 yr old son to the Chesterfield Valley office and saw Dr. Horwitz. He was very empathetic and compassionate towards my son who was very anxious. My son had two pinch calluses on his feet which were extremely painful. During the removal of the calluses Dr. Horwitz discussed the Cardinals with my son by the end of the conversation the calluses were gone and my son was shocked that it didn't hurt. I would not hesitate to bring either of my children to Feet for Life as the entire experience was positive from the moment we entered the office to paying our copay on the way out. I recently had foot surgery done by Dr. Michael Horwitz and I am beyond satisfied with the outcome. I initially came to him with serious pain in my left foot due to a hammer toe and a really long second toe. It was so bad I was no longer running and exercising like I had before the pain. I knew I had to do something to maintain my mobility. He throughly and simply explained with x-rays why I was having the pain. He also did a great job at explaining what options I had and which ones he thought I would benefit the most from... I chose surgery because I didn't want to experience this pain another day. On the day of the surgery the staff were very nice and helpful with plenty of warm comfy blankets. I was told what my out of pocket expense would be weeks in advance and payment went off without a hitch. No surprises. When it was time to go back they were very good at keeping me relaxed and before I knew it I was finished. Because of the pain block they used I had NO pain the first day after surgery! The second and third days weren't that bad either. Overall the recovery pain was less than what I had come in with. If I had to do this all over again, the only thing I'd change is I'd probably have come to Dr Horwitz much sooner. I'm glad I saw for myself what Feet for Life had to offer me. I think there must be some paid trolls leaving negative reviews which is unfortunate because if you have real pain, it can change your life and have a negative impact on mobility and quality of life. I had a terrible experience here. I called and made an appointment at the UCity location. When I received a confirmation voicemail, they had booked me at the wrong location. The receptionist provided poor customer service and I should have seen this as a sign and cancelled. When I arrived for my appointment, there was a glass partition closed where I had to stand to wait to be greeted and given paperwork. Signs of "do not tap on glass" were posted, along with "please let us know if you have been waiting more than 30 minutes". What a horrible perception this was giving off. Any office where there needs to be a sign telling patients to notify the staff if they've waited a 1/2 hour is not an office I want taking care of me! I waited for more than 20 minutes for my appointment. When I was finally taken back, the assistant was training a new assistant and it was a mess. At one point, when they were reviewing my surgical consult information, the "trainee" actually interrupted my appointment to ask her trainer how to set up for another procedure. The assistant doing the training even rolled her eyes and gave the trainee a rude response. It was some of the worst indirect customer service I have ever received. This team is in dire need of training on perception and service. I was given an estimated copay of $45 (which I paid the date of service) and then later received a bill for over $130 which I had not been anticipating or informed there would be an additional copay for xrays taken during my visit. I don't have much to say about the actual doctor, Michael Horowitz. He seemed capable and was friendly, but he only met with me for less than 10 minutes and the rest of his team made a negative enough impression that his capability alone is not enough for me to seek return care. I have already requested my x-rays and found another doctor. This doctor really needs to look into the perception his team is giving off about his office and invest in a more polished team and some training. read more

Dr. Horwtiz did a bunionectomy on both my feet Jan 2014. One at the beginning of Jan and one at the end of Jan. My results = 5 stars. He had a seminar in Oct 2013 that I attended that helped explain what types of bunions there are, what someone can expect pre, during and post surgery. He also had past patients get up and give testimonials. My neighbor also had a bunionectomy on both her feet by Dr. Horwitz a few years earlier. Dr. Hortwitz performed an excellent surgery for me twice - once on the left foot and once on the right foot. I found his bed side manner not to be the best; however I would much rather have an excellent surgeon with a mediocre bedside manner vs. a mediocre surgeon with an excellent bedside manner. If you want someone to make you feel all warm and fuzzy, then you are out of luck. If you want a great surgeon, go see him! If you have more questions after he explains things to you, speak up and ask him. My recovery was also excellent. I was back running in 8 weeks! And you can barely see the scars on my feet a year later. The nurses and anesthesiologist were also excellent. The staff explained to me what portion of the medical costs would be my responsibility and what amount would be covered by the insurance. read more

I have never left a negative review for anyone but I could not let this one go. Dr. Horwitz was among the worst "doctors" that I have visited. He had little bedside manner, was in a hurry, and seemed more interested in talking about his personal situations over the phone with his staff than in spending some time with me to explain my options. I paid for the TOTAL amount of the bill before leaving. Then they sent me another bill for $45 that under no conditions did I owe. I always pay my bill but refuse to pay for something that I am being wrongly charged for! It is a matter of principal, not money. I spoke with them a few times about it, answered emails with explanations, left voicemails, and they still filed it with a collection agency which was Totally Wrong! This affected my credit score and then I had to dispute the charge with multiple credit bureaus. I am a very positive person and do not say ill things about others but this was so UNREAL that I had to let others know to avoid this company and that doctor specifically. This seems a very profit-driven business that uses every excuse to bill and sell you more service/products which did not take care of the problem. My husband took my 10-year-old son to see Dr. Michael Horwitz about something growing in his right heel. After taking two x-rays, the doctor was not certain what it was. He told my husband that we would be looking at many treatments in the long term which could still be ineffective or alternatively we could take care of it through surgery under general anesthesia. Given the seriousness of this prospect, my husband asked if I could speak to the doctor since I was not present. We were told to call the doctor later. When I did call and asked to speak to the doctor, I was told he was not available but I could talk to him by going into their office. I stopped by their office in order to speak to Dr. Horwitz for 10 min about the surgery only to find out later this was billed as a second office visit. At the end of the conversation, Dr. Horwitz convinced me that surgery under general anesthesia would be a better treatment even though that could impact my son's mobility for months. Purely out of precaution, we took my son to a different doctor for a second opinion, where the root cause was diagnosed and treated with minimal efforts during an office visit. This was the correct diagnose and my son's foot has completely healed since then. I contacted Dr. Horwitz's office to see if they could waive the charge for the second "office visit" which should really had been a follow-up phone call from the initial visit, their office refused to waive it and told me that a phone call would still be billed as an office visit. I would never recommend this place to anyone as they not only put us through unnecessary agony from the prospect of having to put a child through surgery & recovery, but also showed absolutely no consideration for what we went through as long as they could bill their fees. We fully understand that judgement is involved in medical diagnoses and do not expect every doctor to get it right the first time. However, given the circumstance and outcome, their office could at least show some caring by handling the issue better. read more

I would not EVER go to this doctor office again. I'll say this first...I paid them a bunch of money. My insurance paid them a bunch of money and my heel still hurts. They sold me a heel splint and charged my insurance company over $200. I found the same medical equipment for $29.95 at Walmart. Of course my insurance didn't pay for it and so then the doctor office charged me $98.64. I ended up not even being able to use the equipment as it kept me awake at night. I used it twice. And when I asked them if they would work with me on it, they said no. That since they had charged my insurance company, they couldn't give me any discount, and told me to call my insurance company and if they said it was ok, then maybe they would do something. I then had the insurance company call them and the doctors office proceeded to tell the insurance company they wouldn't do anything. IT was all a BIG RUN AROUND. In the end, the office manager, who I might say was very rude, didn't do anything. And they wouldn't even let me talk to the owner (doctor) unless I made an appointment, which I'm sure they would've charged the insurance company as an office visit. Hubby was told by Dr. Horowitz he needed hyfrecation to resolve plantars warts on bottom of left foot. My husband has serious heart defect and was concerned about the use of twilight with I.v. sedation for this procedure. We were treated like our concern regarding the I.v. with twilight sedation was crazy and told "we'd have to peel him off of the ceiling without it." Contacted by office staff prior to surgery and told total responsibility for everything would be $267.00. Day of surgery, 2/12/16, again, we were told total cost of this whole deal would be $267.00, we quickly paid and were given a receipt. On April 4th, representative called hubby while he was at work and told him everything came back better than expected as he only owed seventy some odd dollars. Again, he quickly paid and was told at that time that the $267.00 was never charged to card as a hold had only been placed on it instead. Around this time EOB comes in and reads an enormous amount as being patient responsibility. Called insurance company and discovered they never called to verify benefits of anything. While Dr. Horwitz is in-network and Feet For Life is in-network, his surgery center and anesthesia provider (a CRNA) is not in-network. Spoke to Allison at Mid-County Surgery Center and told not to worry as she's never seen this procedure, etc. cost more than the original quoted amount of $267.00. Additionally, she said they were working to get billing back in-house from IPS. On 4/16/16 Dr. Horowitz tells hubby at post op f/u appointment that he needs another surgery. Red flags go up as pieces of puzzle are coming together. Take hubby to another podiatrist who states: 1.) Diagnosis correct but treatment is all wrong. Hyfrecation should never have been used as it can cause scarring. 2.) Hyfrecation is done all the time in office and never requires a surgery center be used. 3.) When hyfrecation is indicated, it is done with a local and never I.v. sedation with twilight. 4.) Now my hubby has permanent scar tissue which is causing him more pain than he had prior to surgery. To verify all of this and gain another professional opinion, he was seen by another podiatrist and we were told the very same thing as second opinion. We have tried to resolve this financial mess, but just found out that all billing is being done via IPS who is located in Florida so definitely not house. Instead of $267.00 as originally quoted, somehow the surgery center is $2500.00 and anesthesia is $1978.00....all for plantars warts and all not standard of care or protocol for health condition. Contacted IPS back in May as we were told they were handling billing for the anesthesia and they brought up that my hubby signed paper saying he would pay. I asked for her to mail copy to us and still have not received this paper. Hubby and I do not have any such paper. I have been very happy with the treatment provided by Dr Horowitz and staff. I came in with pain in my left foot. After X-rays, Dr Horowitz diagnosed the problem as arthritis in a specific joint. Treatment was two-fold. Change to a different type of shoe with more mobility to strengthen the muscles in foot and an injection to reduce or eliminate the inflamation.
