Looking for some day lilies for the garden and found Ellie's, located off 202 in rural Maine. Over…read more600 varieties. We strolled the many beds for a while, and chatted with Ellie quite a bit for advice! We learned about tetrapoids and diploid (so?)! Who knew! No store front, just beds of flowers and a small shed where Ellie keeps shovels and price lists! We will return! Important note, they are in the process of moving locations. I put in the new address, they are are couple of miles west on 202 now.

I had a budget of about 1000$ so I just knew I'd find one. I did! It had no price tag on it anywhere. My husband very carefully started to lift the side to see if it was underneath. The owner I'm assuming, a wretched woman with silver hair, proceeded to treat us like toddlers. She rudely chastised him loudly. We don't pick that up! She yelled. He immediately let it go. Then, she could have recovered and made a sale. Look, I get it, it's expensive, but you don't have to act like a banshee. But no. She stuck with being rude. I'm sorry he said, she said, loudly.... THATS WHY WE ASK. That was it. I was done. She tried to recover saying, well it's $650, soooo.... Like we couldn't have afforded it anyway. This is the second time I've had a bad experience here, with that same woman. I gave it the benefit of a doubt, but she's just a rude jerk. The prices here are ridiculous. I could buy the onyx lamp online for about 250-450, but finding the specimen and supporting small business is the reason I don't. I won't be coming back here.

I will NEVER go back. The jewlery in the store is pretty, but the customer service sucks!

I am copying and pasting my remarks from another site, including the lies the owner posted in…read moreresponse to my original review. BE WARNED! EDIT TO RESPOND TO OWNER - I am BEYOND appalled at the unprofessional conduct of the owner of this business. I received the NASTIEST voicemail message from him in response to my original review which was neither rude or overly negative and did not in any way deserve the harassing phone message he left. Let me clear up a few outright LIES in his response to overcharging a customer. First, Sir, I am from Maine and I had my brother do the drive yesterday to make sure I do not put falsities online such as you have just done. It is in fact a 16 minute drive from your shop to my mother's house, not 40 minutes. Laughable. Secondly, I did NOT order AFTER you had finished taking orders on Saturday. MORE LIES. I ordered before noon and originally inquired about hydrangeas and was offered the 8 inch - by the way ANOTHER LIE - the plant was 8 inches not 10 as you claimed - when I asked about the Hydrangeas the very nice young lady (so sorry she is forced to work with a crass thing such as yourself) said that you didn't have those available and offered me the 8 INCH PLANT and told me orders were being taken for a few more hours if I needed to think about it and callback. Lastly, Do Not EVER call my phone again! You are COMPLETELY unprofessional and the personal attack you launched on me was TOTALLY uncalled for and COMPLETELY assinine. Had you called me and attempted to leave a polite, professional message explaining your side of things in a civil manner, I would DEFINITELY have changed my star rating to 4 and edited this review to say how lovely you were. As it is now I changed my star review from 3 to 1 and would give ZERO if it were an option. Please expect to see reviews from me on EVERY SITE ON THE INTERNET warning people that you are completely senile and that if anything honest about your price gouging is reviewed people can expect to be personally attacked and harassed. The BBB will also be notified and a complaint lodged. You can not go around talking to customers the way you did to me. Furthermore, an 8 inch (AGAIN NOT 10 INCH) hanging petunia basket from ANY local florist or greenhouse retails for roughly $25 to $30, not $50. You jacked up the price for Mother's Day and acted like a donkey's ass when you got called out for it. Disgusting. I ordered a floral delivery for my mom for Mother's Day today. As I live in NY and my mom in Augusta, I looked for a local florist and found Hopkins. I opted for an 8 inch hanging petunia basket and was floored when I was charged $50 bucks plus a $10 delivery charge, BUT I do understand that I ordered last minute for the holiday so I assume that's the reasoning behind essentially doubling the price of the product, even though I probably won't order again due to it. It was delivered within hours and the staff was friendly. 1 Response from the ownera day ago When you called late in the day we took your delivery even though deliveries for the day had stopped . It was a 20 mile round trip and took more than 40 minutes to complete. We did it not so much for the money but to make sure a Mother gets something on her Day. We have many Mothers & Grandmothers working here in the 66 years that we have been in business & we have a soft spot for Mothers.Your Mom received a beautiful 10" flowering pot that sells for $50. plus $10 for delivery. This is the price everybody pays whether you live in N.Y. or across the street .This is not a chain store plant wilting beside the lawn tractors. This is a florist quality plant that was delivered within 1 hour of your phone call & presented to your Mom. This is tremendous service & I am insulted by your remarks . Gary B Hopkins

She grew all of the flowers from her own organic garden and made all of the arrangements. We place our order before the growing season and were able to select some of the colors and flowers she should add more of to her garden. Working with Barbara was great. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a Maine summer wedding. Barbara was able to get vases for the centerpiece and deliver all of the flowers to the reception site. All happened without a hitch at a very reasonable price. Felt great to support such a lovely local business. I'd definitely recommend contacting Barbara to supply flowers for your wedding in the Belfast/Lincolnville/Camden region.
