That is something that I have found lacking at other spas in town--the right combination. Some areas for improvement are in general customer service in answering the phone, getting back to phone calls, getting the website up. I moved to Texas but spend half my year in TC helping my elderly parents, so I've been cutting my own hair while I bounce back and forth between states, I was in dire need of getting it trimmed back into shape and needed someone I could trust, so I tracked Daya down again. I told her I was leaving town in 3 days, but she was booked out, so she was going to book me with Ashley. I asked her if she trusted her and if I could? She told me she did, and that Ashley had been there for a number of years. So I booked the appointment. I don't know Ashley, so I spent several hours going through phone photos putting together an album of the best close up hair style shots I had. When I arrived we spent about 40+ minutes of me showing her photos of my style and what I wanted, her telling me how she really liked the 80's hair styles, me going back to where I want fullness and how I style my hair, her love of the 80's again, some celebrity style likeness questions - that I didn't answer because I just wanted her to see my pictures and cut that style. (I've done the same cut 40+ years and it gives me the flexibility to get different looks if I want by styling my hair and not cutting it into a style with no options). I also emphasized I needed as little taken off as possible to please my husband, she promised me she would take off just a minuscule amount. So the 40 minutes of me trying to tell her what I WANTED was an exercise in debate and frustration. I'm not a beautician and I don't know the terminology in how to get my style back...whether it's needing layering or feathering, (I do know it requires scissors verses a razor tool the way I do it) But that's what I wanted when I booked the appointment and when I arrived. (I had several up-coming trips and needed to be able to style my hair fast the way I always have). She told me she's a gal with a heart for the 80's, and shags or Olivia Newton John type cuts....but again, that's not what I told her I WANTED ‍, and the more I tried to convey my desires over hers was an endless and exhausting futile effort and I finally wore out, but hoped she would take what I said, and her agreed upon limit of cutting length, and I put my hair's fate in her skilled hands. Needless to say, after she finished I had a shag hair cut and my minuscule amount of hair taken off was never her goal. I could cry every time I look in a mirror from that moment to this, and Daya's advice was to go home and work with it. Well I bought all new hair length tools in the smallest size possible, and spent over a week with visible scabs on my forehead from burns because I don't even have enough bangs for those tools and still don't a month and a half out from that regretful day! Ashley is sweet and personable, but my review of our conversation and her abilities to understand and recognize when someone goes to the effort to make an album to show pictures of what they want, should be a simple "I can do that" or "I can't do that and here's why, it's not a try and sell someone on what you like instead. That's an appointment that starts with "I want to try something new but don't know what I want". So I ended up wasting my time twice and hers once with pictures!! I'm not sure whether the cut I got was because that's what she knows, or just what SHE likes to do? The 2 things I'm thankful for are: that I am retired, and I don't have to let the world see me every single day with ugly hair!!!! The other is my husband used to complain every time he saw me cutting my own hair and was constantly voicing his frustration that I wouldn't go to a salon and have a professional do it, (I've been cutting my own hair since the last time I had someone do half this bad of a job, and that was over 20 years ago) Now he's reminded every time he looks at me how that worked out and He's not singing that tune anymore!!!! Sorry, I hate the way I look so bad I don't want to immortalize the cut with pictures. FYI, I also don't post reviews unless I have something good to say, but I feel my bad experience could help Ashley and you both. Ashley, I'm going to be living thru this ugly hair phase for many more months ahead and that won't be the end of all this, as when I finally get some hair to work with again, it will have to be cut going the opposite direction of the way you cut it, and I will avoid picture memories with me in them, till this ends just so I don't have to look at myself this way ever again! That's the result of not Listening and HEARING your client! So please remember, at the beginning of your day, you are getting paid to listen and hear the client. Lori S.
