Great place for some casual drinks and eats. This is a good place to go if you want to actually catch up with some friends. You know, have an actual conversation. Music isn't too loud and the scene isn't too distracting. Just take a seat, grab a drink, and get to talking. You should definitely try their specialty cognac cocktails. The Faustina is my favorite. Try the Handy Brandy as well if you have a thing for ginger beer. The craft beer selection is also pretty extensive. Wine? They've got that too. They've pretty much got everyone covered. Oh yeah! It's also pretty cheap. Like under $8 for a house cocktail. That's pretty good. The atmosphere is pretty low key. Dimly lit bar with a few tables inside and picnic tables outside. They also have some good music going usually. The pizza is cheap and isn't a bad option considering it is steps away from your seat. From what I understand, the majority of the founding Hi-Tones staff left to take over the former Web House property. As a fan of the founding spirit of Hi-Tones (which basically saved North St Mary's), I support the new venture. As of now, it is a decent bar without anything to really separate itself besides offering pizza by the slice. The pizza wasn't really great, but I guess if they are serving it until 4 am, maybe the target market is 'people who are really drunk' and don't want to warm up a DiGiorno. I'm hanging out at Faust and you're not. Beer: about 65 bottle/can selection. 90% are craft brews! Melanie was bad ass. Super friendly. Attentive. Serves a killer cucumber margarita! Music:Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Morrissey, The Cure.....all taking me through a trip of my much younger, wilder, more carefree days. Best prices on the St. Mary strip! The happy hour here kills it! They always have something gory playing on the television which I absolutely love! I feel like Dracula would totally come to this bar and hangout in a dark corner. As far as reading other reviews. The clientele that does come here can seem a little alternative but that shouldn't stop anyone from coming here. It's a very diverse place as far as the people go. The food is amazing and the bartenders are chill. The beer selection is all cans or bottles and they feature house cocktails and shots. Small amount of seating available inside, mostly outside seating in general. I would say this is a bar for conversation. They don't have pool or anything. Faust Tavern is located on the St. Mary's strip located inside an old house, right across from Tycoon Flats. The drink prices are good ($3 and $4 shots and lots of $5 house special drinks) and there are a lot of benches outside to sit as well as a southern style kitchen for late night eats. I ordered a pimms cup for $5 and they didn't mix it in a cocktail shaker so the flavors weren't really blended and they added pepper - so I wasn't really a fan. I also sampled the Southern Punch and Moscow Mule - just okay. Apparently I should have ordered the cucumber margarita because everyone was saying it was awesome. I'd give this place another try, but not on a hot San Antonio night (their small room doesn't have enough space to cool everyone down). read more

Nice little dive bar that usually has punk or metal playing on the sound system. Cheap beers, cheap men and women and a patio to smoke on, what's not to like! They just stared having food again which is ran separately from the bar so if you don't like the food don't complain to bar staff. Actually, if you come here don't complain at all! Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself the question, "am I that kind of person?" A comfortable place to go have a few drinks and really good beer. The pizza is good, I'm glad that they have a few options - more would be nice, but that's just me pushing it a bit. I would pay more if the cheese was better though. The dough is really good! I like that you can go on any day, including shitty days and not feel like you are out of place. The music is really good too. Definitely a fan and love that I can just walk to it. Update: Have visited a lot more and I love that they expanded their menu to include friend mushrooms, more pizza selection and chicken wings. Their cheese is great, not sure if they changed it or I just had an off night, but all in all, I am a huge fan. Their beer is also super cold and have great selection - you can find Dogfish Head 90 minute and Delirium Tremens Noel at good prices. Probably one of my favorite chill bars in San Antonio. I can definitely see this place as a hit or miss for most because of the atmosphere and crowd. Do not let that fool/detract you from what Faust can offer. My first visit I was wearing a suit and bowtie...definitely the raisin in the rice sack. Funny looks? Check. Judgement? Absolutely not. Its small. Borderline very cozy to cramped. It really just depends on how big the crowd is. Out of all of my visits I have maybe felt uncomfortable once. Atmosphere is bizarrely charming. Service is always top notch. Very warm and welcoming. I have never seen a bartender look rushed or act snooty here. The beer menu is solid. The cocktails are kind of craft-lite. Not wowing but definitely tasty with some subtle complexity. Price is FANTASTIC. They always have desirable specials going. If you are not picky, the $5 combos are always solid. I really dig the sarsaparilla whiskey they have every so often (kinda wish they would have it all the time). Bathrooms can be sketchy. Parking can be a bitch. It is a pain in the ass to order drinks when folks decide to camp the middle of the bar (hint: always go to the left if said situation is in effect). Also please dont be that ass hat that sits in the middle of the bar. Go to the side or outside... They recently have been having some live music here which can be quite enjoyable. The food window is quite tasty. Semi expensive for the fare, but definitely decadent. *Remember to tip the entry/door guy too. If he has a bucket out there, at least try and help him fill it with a buck or two.* read more

The people are great. I am giving it a medium review as I went here with friends to grab dinner and a drink around 8pm and the pizza was not very good. I am sure as a post 2am snack the pizza is great... for a dinner you are best going somewhere else. The time I visited I swear the pizza tasted identical to the HEB deli oven bake pizza. It even looked exactly like it. The crust tasted the same, looked the same, had the same consistency. I had the 4 meat slice and the toppings looked and tasted identical to the HEB pizza. This isn't bad per say but not what you expect when you visit a pizza joint. If you want to have a drink with a friend in a quiet spot it is pretty good. read more

I would venture to say that Faust is not for everyone. However, the dim lighting, eclectic music playing at an enjoyable level that still lends to conversation, the odd layout, and the interesting folks who also patronize this location made this place be right up my alley! We came here to celebrate some birthdays because the bar we wanted to go to was bought out for a private party. The drinks were good and cheap which is nice especially if you're on a budget. The bar itself is located in what my husband described as a "hipster" neighborhood. However, I don't know if that's the word I would use to describe the atmosphere of this bar. When you walk in, you're immediately greeted by Ouija boards and demon masks and dolls heads. Definitely not what I was expecting. To be honest, I had chills when I walked in. Though it may be a place some might want to hang out at, it wasn't necessarily the type of scene I wanted to be in that night. So we left right after we took a couple of shots and chugged our Moscow Mules. I don't know that I'll be back to this little joint anytime soon. read more

What bartender doesn't know what a floater is? We explained that it was an extra shot and we were hoping it would cut the tartness of the drink. One of my favorite bars. Very much a guys place: the music is metal, $5 beer and a shot (go with the fernet, it's good for your stomach kids), decent to pretty tasty food (menu changes often). Unofficial dress code seems to be a black shirt except on junior hipster DJ night. Consistently friendliest crowd of people (metal heads, who knew) that I've consistently encountered at an SA bar, and the not always super clean bathroom is actually consistently cleaner than most divey metal bars. read more

The bar here is alright by me for sure. Drink are reasonable prices, the service is good most of the time. The music is normally great but they are loosing me with the food. I've given it three shots and each time have been quite let down. Maybe my hopes are too high but I love flavor and that's something that is lacking here. I got red beans and rice, mind you they are vegan, and thoughly lacked any sort of flavor. I don't even think they included the holy trinity, which for a New Orleans dish is a shame. I asked for hot sauce and was given a sauce that was way too sweet, I asked for a Louisiana style sauce and was told they didn't have any. I mean really, how do you run a southern kitchen and not have Crystal or Cajun Chef? A few nights later i had the chicken wings. Worst decision ever. I might give this place another shot. But if you're going to do southern food you better get the flavors right. And at least have a few southern hot sauces please. read more

This is my kind of place! We went to Candlelight for a function we regularly attend and as kismet would have it we parked on Woodlawn because our usual parking spot was full. As we walked towards St. Mary's I saw the sign for Faust Tavern. I said to my wife, "Now with a name like that it's got to be a cool place". We go on to our function at the coffeehouse, and of course make our way back to our car. As we walk by Faust I can hear the song 'Halloween' by Dead Kennedys playing. I said to my darling, "Yes this is definitely my kind of bar. Faust for a name AND Dead Kennedys playing this is like a sign (from below)." So my wife says to me, "do you want a nightcap?" Well she didn't have to ask me twice we went on in! They have a nice patio area with a window for ordering bar munchies from a kitchen that I assume is technically a different enterprise, but they have made it a team effort. I wasn't hungry so I didn't pay much attention to it, I'll definitely give it the look over on my next visit. We walk in and it isn't a huge bar, but with the name of Faust you can bet that the atmosphere was in line with this time of year. Ouja boards and pictures of Dracula adorned the wall. Their lineup of beers is impressive, but I saw Maker's and I was feeling one of those on the rocks. My sweetie wanted to Southern cocktail which was their take on a Planter's punch. Bartenders there are friendly, quick, and observant. I asked one of them how long that they have been there and he replied "2 years, but we don't advertise, people find out about us by word of mouth" (and obviously Yelp because it isn't like I'm the first to review). So we enjoy our drinks and I'm enjoying the music that they are playing. The punk rock didn't stop with Dead Kennedys. I heard a Minor Threat song and one by Roger Miret and the Disasters. Their prices are damn good too, $5 each for both of our drinks and one was a specialty cocktail, and the other a call. They weren't stingy with the pours either. We finished our nightcap and made our way to the car. So I have a new favorite bar in San Antonio, one that I feel like I could become a regular. read more

Chill place overall. When my friends and I first pulled up, it looked like someone's house. We thought Google Maps guided us to the wrong location. Once we saw some people sitting outside on benches, we felt a little better. Inside, there is real dim lighting and eclectic designs/objects on the wall. They have a wide selection of yummy shots, and mixed drinks. We had a few, and they were delicious! I did try a Pimm's cup, and I really was not impressed. But all the others tasted great and were around $6.50 each. They played some great 50's, 70's and 80's music. I really had a great time here, and would definitely come back again! read more

We were really glad to find out that the location of the old Web House was reopening under new management. We loved the Web house because it was a cool, different, slightly bizarre place with terrible drinks and a slightly underground vibe. The inside is way better set up than the web house was, and I like the picnic tables outside. There is nothing too fancy or special here. I wouldn't come for the drinks; they don't even have beer on tap, but I like that you can hang out at the picnic tables with a bunch of friends and just chill out. It is more relaxed, intimate, and social-feeling to me than other bars on the N St Mary's strip that have live music blasting non-stop. Don't come for the food either. The pizza is definitely nothing special, but anyone who is expecting something special at 3 in the morning is deluding themselves. The point of this bar is NOT the pizza; it's more of a courtesy to people who are already there than an attraction. If you're just hungry go to the taco stand by Hardbodies, people. In short, it's a great, relaxed neighborhood bar where you can come and hang out with friends for a chill night out. read more

Danny and Andrea have restored the ol Webhouse location into a subdued, punkest, pizza by the slice haven for the poetic mix of the St. Marys crowd. In many ways taking you out of the scene and into a hazy lil backyard wonderland allowing you to sit and visit over a nice cold beer and slice of pie. Some of the best cocktails I have ever had, and at a very decent price -- what could be better? We had the Red Onion Rings with pickled peach ketchup. These were amazing.
