Our upper level Bus seats were faded and had seen better days. The lower level seats had cushions and were in better shape. (Would imagine because the roof is open during warmer periods). Our Driver as well another Driver were helpful and gave us some good tips. Ear buds were provided for the tour/sights information with multiple language options. The views are amazing! Lana had lots of great information on the way up and was quiet on the way back because a lot of people were sleeping on the way home. We got to drive on the autobahn and I saw lots of Porsches going at least 100 MPH. The castle was awesome, it is about a 30 minute tour and at the pickup spot you can grab a nice red brat. The have beer too. Definitely an awesome trip you should take and try to get Lana as your tour guide!

The meeting point was easy to find and transportation was prompt and comfortable for the full ~9-hour round trip. Lana was our guide and easily one of the best I've ever had--witty, funny, and packed with idiosyncratic Bavarian facts. She kept us engaged and entertained the entire time, even including some adult only material. On the bus, keep your eyes peeled for cows, alpacas, deer, and CATS roaming the countryside. The castle and Bavarian scenery are breathtaking on their own, but Lana's local-born energy and storytelling made the entire day unforgettable. I booked through GuruWalk, but you can also book directly on his website. Met Philipp at the Fish Fountain in Marienplatz. So nice to walk through Old Town with a small group learning the secrets and myths of this magical place. Fact or fiction? When was Munich founded? Why was a monkey entertaining a future king of Bavaria? Why did the opera house burn down not once...but twice? Which windows are real in the Residenz? Is the path to art always obvious? After our art walk, we took the subway to the Bahnwärter Thiel where our tour group used spray paint and stencils to create unique postcards. Due to its proximity to our Munich hotel, Ostbahnhof was our "home base" when traveling. It's large…read moreand can be a bit confusing (as any subway/train/hub of travel can be to those who aren't used to it), but once you get the hang of the hallways, stairs and turns, it's easy to navigate. We took many a train to and from our second "home base", Marienplatz. The thing that I loved about starting and ending at Ostbhanhof was the fact that we could take practically any train - going in the correct direction, of course - if we wanted to stop at Marienplatz. That meant we rarely had to wait for a train, which was an added bonus, given we were there in the middle of winter, and there is no shelter from the cold, wind and rain on the platforms. Signage is plentiful, there are plenty of ticket machines scattered throughout the station, and one can buy anything from pastries and coffee to lotions and toothpaste without having to leave the relative warmth of the station itself. Our last train out of Ostbahnhof was the one to Salzburg, so we were able to connect locally as well as "internationally". It definitely made it easy for weary travelers, with just a bit of German language on their side.

We bought a day pass from the airport which covered our trip from the airport to our hotel and then used the pass to get to the Munich Olympic Park and the BMW Campus and Museum. We also took this station to go to Dachau as well. I was surprised that they very rarely checked for tickets during our stay in Munich. According to our tour guide, they are on an "honor" system. There are no turnstiles or entrance gates to scan your tickets. Ticket inspectors randomly inspect for tickets. If you don't have one you may get a €60 or more fine! A very useful station in Munich, but make sure that you have a ticket. We always did!
