So let me first say that I, like many of you, have endured the search and after looking at so many schools I found the very best. St. Matthias as been impressive from the very first encounter. From the tour, to the interview process, in the preparation process and most especially as the school year began. The principal, teachers, teachers aids and everyone we have encountered thus far. I know this review may seem idealizing but I assure you that I consider myself a hard critic and cannot adequately express how pleased and impressed we are with St. Matthias School. Just go see for yourself!!!

Teachers are very attentive and do care about students. The school uses challenging curriculum that allows my child to be at a level he is. Small classes really help as teachers have an opportunity to teach and make sure students understand what is being taught. Additionally, school offers free clubs weekly for children to explore their interests.

The employees there are pleasant; they do try to make learning enjoyable. I have found that Sylvan…read moremight be OK to help a child improve in a particular subject, but it seems they do not have much of a clue as far as test preparation. They do not teach the children strategies in test taking such as preparing for the SAT or for a Regents examination. Further, they seem to be out of touch with how my child was doing. They told me my child was doing well in a subject and had great confidence he would do well on a critical upcoming NYS examination. Imagine my shock and displeasure when my child failed! Sylvan refused to refund my money, and suddenly came up with all sorts of excuses as if they never had told me he was doing well. I believe they are OK as far as homework help or as a supplement to classwork. But I would not waste my money here for SAT prep, Regents prep, prep for state exams, etc.

DO NOT PLACE YOUR CHILD HERE FOR CHILD CARE IF YOU LOVE YOUR CHILD FOR THE SAKE OF YOU ALL. They take a very long time to answer the door the longest I've waited was about 10 minutes to drop off my child and the quickest time when preparing him for pickup was about 15 minutes. They also tend to forget what your child came with when you're dropping them off, either they'll give you another child's belongings and you fail to realize the first time not realizing so you're conscious the next time to be more alert and then when you realize the second time and catch this and other parents are complaining about the same thing then you know it's someone not paying attention at all or just being careless. So from my experience and a perfect example my son came home with Pink lined Minnie Mouse pampers on when I supplied the school with more than 2 weeks worth of blue lined Mickey Mouse pampers on the same day he had those pink Minnie Mouse pampers on so I'm left to assume when I don't like assuming or guessing as a parent. Your child's socks may go missing as if a child borrowed it for a day or two and then you'll notice they can't find your child's shoes the next day and mysteriously it turns up a week later. This program will have you either late for work if you work from home or traveling to work doesn't make a difference for lines of possible termination from your job(s). They will also tell you last minute or unexpectedly that if you have a toddler which has enrolled you'd have to go to another location which may inconvenience you as well I personally from experience wouldn't recommend it. It will not only make you late it will cause a great deal of inconvenience whether you're driving or taking an Uber. Heavy traffic, you have to double park, and it may really make you feel like you're coming out of your comfort zone from what was convenient to now inconvenience thanks for reading and good luck if you didn't read you will understand the hard way with the actions they show you louder than these words I tried my best to provide.
