I had a very disappointing experience at this location. I came in with a severe headache that had lasted several days and was feeling light-headed at times. After being taken back, my temperature and blood pressure were checked and I was told they wanted to do flu and COVID tests. The nurse performed both swabs in the same nostril at the same time, and they were done very quickly and did not seem thorough. After that, I was told another staff member would be in shortly, but no one came. I waited alone in the room for about 30 minutes with no updates. When I stepped out to ask how much longer the test would take, the response I received felt dismissive and unprofessional. When someone finally returned, the exam was very brief. A flashlight was shined in my ears, I was asked how much Tylenol I was taking, and I was told to take more and buy Sudafed. No clear diagnosis was given. After spending over an hour there with minimal evaluation, I decided to leave and went to another urgent care in Blowing Rock. At that clinic, I received a thorough evaluation, was diagnosed with a sinus infection, and was prescribed an antibiotic and steroid, which addressed my symptoms. I understand urgent cares can be busy, but the lack of communication, limited exam, and dismissive attitude made this experience very frustrating and concerning. Do not recommend. read more

Don't understand how there could be any good reviews of FastMed. Not because of the care I received. Once I was able to see the ONLY healthcare professional working the day I was there, it was fine. Pretty straightforward as I just needed an antibiotic for a UTI. Of course, the SIX HOUR wait was ridiculous, but what are you going to do? The REAL MESS is the billing system. I paid a portion at the time of service. Then, after insurance paid the small amount they will pay, I received an email with the balance. Set up MyChart to pay online, but there is literally no way to pay online, even though that is specifically what the email said to do. So, I call the number listed on MyChart. I get a recording saying "this number is not accepting calls." I try different numbers, get the same recording. I tried FIVE TIMES. The account balance indicated I had until January 2 to pay. However, on December 9, I receive an email saying my account had been sent to "collections" and that I should call KLS Financial or...you guessed it...pay on the non-existing online portal. After being transferred, I talked to someone who finally could help. This person acknowledged that the online system has been down for weeks. She advised that I send an email explaining my issue. Sent the email and received a response that, indeed, the online system isn't working and phones are down. The suggestion was that I "stop by" a location to pay or send a check. Guess they didn't read in the email where I indicated I had paid through KLS financial. So, add "can't read" to the "don't care" customer service approach. If they know all of this, why send me a second email saying my account has been sent to collections--nearly a month before the due date? read more

Made an 830 am appt for an office that opens at 8. Got here at 820 and the doors were locked. Another customer said he had called and they said 20 minutes bc people were running late. Went over to the door again and the open light was on but the door was still locked. I called and someone at the front desk answered and said they couldn't open until everyone else got here and she didn't know what time. This is absolutely unacceptable. We are sick and need care! Horrible experience. Waited for 45 mins in the patient room to be seen for 5 mins by the doctor to give antibiotics without testing for anything. Absolutely ridiculous as antibiotics will not work unless it is bacterial (which they have no way of knowing without testing for anything) and is the reason why antibacterial resistance is such a problem. To call themselves "doctors" is embarrassing to all other healthcare providers. read more

Why set an appointment if they aren't going to honor it? The check-in system is jacked up and didn't connect to my chart, and I had to repeat the steps I completed online in the office. This system is way more complex than if the front attendant just did their job. Complete waste of effort, and I'm sick. This is just a poorly managed operation. Waiting room is way to crowded and since I sat here not a solo has been brought back. There are 10 people in this waiting room and the guy next to me makes me want to run to my car and wait! After five minute visit they sent me back to the lobby for my check out paperwork. I'm too sick to be waiting for this! It makes no sense! Where on Earth do I start? How about the fact that they opened half an hour later than my schedule? Yeah let's start with that, I had an urgent appointment I needed at the time I scheduled and had to wait half an hour over, something I couldn't afford to do on a busy day, but my bad for assuming urgent care was URGENT. Oh yeah and the "care"? Just telling me they can't do anything for me and sending me home after both billing my insurance and having a doctor aggressively refer me out. She was absolutely terrible and made me feel dumb for wanting help. Oh and that "advice" she gave? Complete and utter lies, my doctors in orthoCarolina told me the opposite! GO ELSEWHERE PLEASE! I went in for a DOT physical. The front desk was great. A lot of paperwork like any Dr office. Very thorough exam. It's not the nurses fault everything on me doesn't work as well as it used to. Very satisfied with this office. Highly recommend for a DOT physical. read more

When sitting in the waiting room the receptionist was passive aggressive to the people calling and walking in, and discussed other patients care in front of the 5 people in the waiting room. It took about a hour to be seen despite making an appointment, as we were told these meant "arrival times" rather than appointment times, despite that being the description on the website. Once we were seen, Catherine improved the experience greatly. She was very nice and professional, but still had humor and made the experience more tolerable overall. read more

Upon arriving we sat in the waiting area for 25 minutes before anyone came to the window (sign up at window said to have a seat). During that time, we could hear people singing, talking and laughing in the back and then discussing patient phone calls while making fun of them and the insurance companies. When they finally came to the window, the first person to check in said that he had a 1:30 appointment..... by this point it was 1:55, people! Then they proceeded to tell us that they couldn't see us until 7:30 because they were booked with appointments. Very unprofessional environment. I am very disappointed with the experience I had this past Tuesday, August 5th with the Boone Urgent Care. I woke up that morning with major chest congestion, to the point where I was having trouble breathing and having chest pain. As we all know, an ER visit is not cheap and often times you're left waiting for hours just to make it into an exam room. My mother is a registered nurse, in addition to working in the ER for 20 years, so I have a bit of background knowledge as to what to expect. As a college student living paycheck to paycheck, my first thought was to visit the urgent care for hopefully a quicker and more affordable visit. I walked into the waiting room, where only two other parties were waiting to be seen. I waited my turn in line, grabbed a mask for preventative measures, and when it was my turn to speak to the receptionist, I was quite literally clutching my chest and needing to breathe in between words. I told her I was having difficulty breathing and was wondering if they offered nebulizer treatments and asked how long the wait would be. With the most deadpan, unconcerned demeanor, she replied, "It's going to be a 45min-1hour wait, not to mention that our lunch break is an hour as well". Are you kidding me? You are a medical provider, there is someone in front of you crying, telling you they are having difficulty breathing and that's all you have to say? In response to the nebulizer, she said I would receive treatment if the doctor deemed it necessary. I understand that's something she likely legally has to say, but it was clear as day that I required such treatment for the distress that I was in. I replied that unfortunately I could not wait that long and needed to be seen quicker, and I left. She had not a single word of consideration or compassion for me on one of the scariest days of my life. I was under the impression that the urgent care center worked similarly to the ER in that they utilize a triage system and take patients not necessarily in order of arrival, but based on the severity of their symptoms. I understand that there was no guarantee of them being able to see me right that minute, but an alternative plan or even some words of kindness would have gone a long way for me in those moments. Thankfully I went straight to the emergency room from there and they were able to offer me the nebulizer treatment that I very much needed. For a facility that is named "urgent care" they don't seem to have a very urgent attitude. I understand that these healthcare providers probably experience high levels of stress and have to interact with many patients, maybe some not as pleasant as others, but it is your responsibility to have a clean slate of care and compassion for each patient. If you are unable to do that, you should find another profession. For the sake of the greater Watauga Community, please do better. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. Honor Health needs to stop affiliation with this urgent care facility as it's not URGENT nor do the provide CARE. It's not consistent with the care I get from Honor Health. I SCHEDULED an appointment for 12:30 on Saturday so I wouldnt have to wait with the walk-ins. I arrived on time for my appt & they told me there would be a two hour wait at the location on 127th Ave & Bell in Sun City. I asked why I had to wait when I had an appt. She said, "oh that's not a guarantee you will be seen then." I asked if it's first come-first serve, why do you take appts? She had no answer. I have swollen lymph nodes & feel awful. If I wanted to wait several hours, I would have gone to an ER. This is supposed to be be faster. It is not. DO NOT GO TO FAST MED. Worst experience at an "urgent care" ever. You cannot call it an URGENT CARE IF ITS APPOINTMENT ONLY BASICALLY EVERYDAY. Regardless I was very sick and made my appointment for the next day. I was greeted by a rude black haired man at the desk with the personality of a rock. The nurse that took my blood pressure was about the only actual considerate human in the place. The doctor made me feel like she was rushing and wasn't listening to any of my requests or concerns. I told her exactly what was going on with me because I get the same sickness all the time year round and I know exactly what I need to fix it. This place sucks do better or shut the doors. I had to go to this FastMed twice for a worker's comp injury and they were really great both times. All the people I spoke to at the counter or in the actual exam were kind and got me what I needed. The facility was clean as well and they were quick to get me in and out! read more

This clinic is a joke. My husband was having a severe allergic reaction to an insect bite. The front desk staff didn't even ask what his medical problem was. She was very concerned about our insurance card and running our credit card first and foremost. After that was taken care of she casually asked about his condition and then giggled at his hives all over his face, arms, legs etc and said "oh, you must be itchy". Looking back to the clinic area you could see stations with three medical assistants and a physician. EVERY one of them was on their personal phone. They never looked up even chatting and giggling with each other over what they were looking at. My husband was swelling up all over the longer we sat and his arm looked like it was going to burst. Finally, I asked for a time estimate and the irritated clerk said "about one minute". Five minutes later no one had moved from their stools in the back clinic. We left and went to a real doctor and received epinephrine, prednisone and Benadryl. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

The appointment and check in process was fine. Office was clean and we were able to get back pretty much on time. Both people that attended to us were friendly enough but the person that checked my daughter for an ear issues totally whiffed. She looked at both ears and declared they were clear of wax, with one having some fluid in her middle ear. Her ear drums looked "fine". We took that as accurate. A few days later we had to follow up with her primary doctor who also checked her ears (since the issue hadn't been resolved). She agreed with the assessment on one ear but the other has such a wax buildup that she couldn't see her eardrum! She cleared it out, dislodging a substantial ball of wax and instantly solved her problem. We asked if this could have gone from zero to what we had in 72 hours and she laughed. No way. And she said "I'm not sure how someone ok'd that ear since I couldn't even see past the wax. $70 co-pay and we got a complete wasted trip and no resolution or diagnosis. She lives close to this location but we will just drive further to find quality urgent care in the future. read more

They tell you it's by appointment only, no walkins But you can never schedule same day appointments. It's no different than a regular doctors office, so why call themselves urgent care? College-age daughter injured her knee and went to them to get assistance. They were unable to locate her insurance, though she showed them her active insurance card and a screenshot of the insurance coverage online. They did not make any attempt to call insurance company or address the situation, but instead made her wait forever while in pain. She ultimately had to leave to seek help elsewhere because of their horrible service. read more

Just came from Fastmed in Boone NC, My 22 year old son who is a student at App St. He has his own insurance under Champ VA, First they wouldn't see him unless I the Veteran gave my name a SS number, he informed the Dr. that he has tried everything over the counter she wanted to prescribe Prednisone which he can't take so she said she was calling in a stronger prescription and antihistamine prescription, We got the paper work and said that's it we read it and the Dr just said take over the counter medicine he has already taken and doesn't work, that's why we came when asked why i was threatened with calling the police on me.They totally are the laziest medical personal I have ever saw there was nobody in there but us no other patients,so he gets a bill for nothing, Horrible way to treat college kids and especially Veterans, They completely suck!!! read more

Fighting kidney stones I called the phone number listed and the phone rang nonstop but the website said that they were open so I traveled 22 miles down the mountain from Sugar and walked in only to be told that they don't take walk-ins and that I would need to make an appointment for tomorrow. I told her of my predicament and how the pain was excruciating to it she said we don't prescribe any type of pain medication at our facility. So what we have is a walk-in clinic that doesn't take walk-ins and a clinic that won't give you the medicine you need to feel better had to answer the phone to start with I could've avoided a painful trip down the mountain. read more

I've had the flu for about 4 days, wasn't kicking it so I was going to go for a quick visit to the urgent care and make sure that was all thar was going on. First problem is that it's a FASTmed URGENTcare! I call and they say they can't take a walk in so I make an early morning appt for the next day. I go in, fill everything out (15 minutes early) and specify I just need a flu test. Well, a young girl comes in there (a walk-in may I add) complaining she "doesn't feel right" and wants a chest X-ray and bloodwork, overall a time consuming request. they take her back and 3 other people and I'm still waiting. Now it's about 30 minutes past my appointment time and I hear someone ask what's taking so long and the receptionist says "there aren't any rooms available". Over and hour after my APPOINTMENT time later and I'm still in the waiting room ! I got so fed up i requested a refund and left. bottom line, If you want the slowest service possible regardless if you have an appointment, go there! read more

Not a great experience with a 1 year old. They took all of my billing information and when the Doctor and Nurse came in for the examination, they didn't have equipment that was fit for a child and were unable to make my child comfortable enough for an exam. They didn't even touch her (no blood pressure, couldn't check for fever, and made a diagnosis based on a visual look). I was in and out of there in 15 minutes with a "guess" of a diagnosis and then billed my insurance for 275 dollars. I could have given her the same diagnosis from looking online. Oh, my fault was that I didn't notice a 2 star rating on Yelp (thats bad) and a D+ rating on BBB (Better Business Bureau). BBB is like school (starts with an A+ and goes down to F. So when reading and interpreting the word "urgent" I would expect that to mean fast or sudden. Now at this "urgent care" there are 0 WALK INS. Yes this is an urgent care, yet people who need urgent attention but don't believe it requires the hospitals attention have to book an appointment. My employer has been sending me here for a work injury, and my last 3 visits were fine- everyone is nice, fairly speedy compared to going to the ER, and very sterile. The nurse practitioner leaves something to be desired- she comes in, does her assessment, gives me nothing for pain- not even Tylenol (Pulled back muscle). On my follow up visit, my back is not improving and she prescribes me a medication (Flexeril), and I tell her that I can't take that medication because I can't function taking it (even taking it the night before due to drowsiness), and she says "then don't take it". We ask if there is something else, she VERY FLIPPANTLY replies "nope" before walking out of the room and closing the door without so much as a goodbye. Now instead of having workman's comp pay for my medication, I have to go to the store and pay out of pocket for something for pain. Terrible service. read more

Needed a sports physical for my child. I went on the website and made an appt. Went in the next day for the appt and was told it would be a 2-3 hr wait even with the appt. When I asked why, I was told they also take walk ins and everyone is seen in the order they arrive. I told them this makes no sense this is the whole point of an appt so we didn't have to walk in and wait, he just said this is they way they see there patients.
