Tatjana Alterations

Tatjana was very quick to respond to my initial email, which I appreciated. However, my experience…read moreafter that was disappointing. When I attended my appointment to have my wedding dress hemmed, Tatjana quoted $200, which I agreed to. After she had already started pinning the dress, I went to pay a deposit and was then told the cost was $300. When my bridesmaid mentioned that we had agreed to $200, Tatjana insisted the price was always $300. At that point, I felt uncomfortable arguing as we were in her home and my dress was already pinned. When I returned to collect my dress, I wasn't happy with the finish of the hem. The bottom line did not sit well, but Tatjana dismissed my concerns without properly assessing it and said it was "how it's meant to be" and that nothing could be done. After taking the dress home, I realised the hem had been glued rather than properly sewn. I am extremely disappointed that I paid $300 for work that now needs to be redone. Overall, this was a very poor experience and a waste of money. I would not recommend Tatjana, particularly for something as important as a wedding dress.

I believe if more people knew just how good the service and quality of workmanship was here all of the other alterations businesses would soon be out of business. I often come here and ask If I could get my pants/jeans etc altered within the hour and irrespective of how busy they are they always achieve this without a hassle. They are always friendly and accommodating and I have never been disappointed with the result, on top of that they offer some of the cheapest alterations around. Even the more complex and time consuming alterations like those associated with suiting and leather goods they seem to do it with ease and for an exceptional price. I have had friends get wedding dresses made and altered, clothes made from fabric cut offs they have had lying around, silk saddles put into jeans, moth holes repaired and restored, everything you can imagine they offer. Sew Master Fashions continues to get the Stampy of approval year after year.

This place definitely keeps you looking smart…read more I've lost count of the number of times these guys have saved my heiny (and that of my family!) I've come here with split seams, holes, hemming disasters and more. The nice asian ladies here seem very understanding of my fashion woes and manage to perform small miracles. I'll never forget the advice my design teacher told me as well, If you tailor a garment well you are able to drop dress sizes. (And Looksmart promises just that.) Aside from their expert tailoring, they offer a vast range of services from Shortening, resizing, repairing and dry cleaning to hand embroidering, Beading, invisible mending and lengthening. With a handy location in Westfield Chermside (as well as their big sister store in the Myer Centre) This place should be your port of all for all fashion emergencies.

Jane took the time to really find out what I was looking for and the finished product reflected. My alteration needed a very skilful seamstress and I was amazed at how much effort Jane went to above and beyond to make my beautiful winter coat perfect. I will be only getting my alterations at HosiKozi. Jenny on the desk was friendly, helpful and a boon for this business. Helen

Doree Quick Mending
Do you have a piece of clothing that you just cannot bare to part with? Maybe it is an investment…read morepiece like a trench coat that is classic, the perfect cut and irreplaceable. Or maybe you're a vintage vixen who shops with a thrifty and keen eye for threads of yesteryear and need a little hem stitched here or waist taken in there. No matter what your sartorial renovation or rescue need, Doree Mending will be your go-to seamstress and sewing godmother. I will admit that maybe 80% of myself chose Doree Mending to repair my long suffering trench coat for its latest round of emergency repairs because of their vintage advertising (what can I say, I'm a sucker for packaging, advertising and design) but it quickly became apparent my admiration for Doree would soon be based on the fact they are wonderfully polite, efficient and affordable with results that speak for themselves. Sure I've had seamstresses in the past promise me invisible stitching only to get my beloved trench back with clearly visible stitching. Looking at my trench after picking it up from Doree I'm having trouble seeing where the mending took place. Don't dilly dally around with others, walk straight off the Queen Street Mall (Queen's Plaza end), into the Tattersalls Arcade and take a sharp right into Doree. PS. When you do, check out the amazing antique library draw cabinet?!?

But alas, we cannot turn back time, so recently when I found some clothes needing to be mended I took them to Doree Quick Mending in Tattersall's Arcade. The little store is so beautiful, lined with old Singer sewing machines. Their slogan is "a stitch in time since 1934" and it really does feel like you have stepped out of a time machine and gone back 60 years. A lady called Mary helped me out and assured me that every garment I had brought in could be fixed. There were a couple of zips needing to be replaced and a few seams needing to be re-sewn and she said that it would all be ready to be picked up in a few days. I was a little bit taken aback by the price ($30 for each of the items needing a zip replaced) but otherwise the service was prompt and polite. When I picked everything up, they looked as good as new. I was really happy with the work the Doree Quick Mending did, but I think in future I will only take the small mending jobs there to avoid forking out as much money as I did the first time.

"Life saver" If you…read moreare anything like me, (a typical male hopeless with sewing and associated activities), then businesses such as Vivian's Clothing Alterations is a godsend. Located on the corner of Riding Road and Monmouth Street Hawthorne, Vivian's has been around for about a decade. On my many visits here, it has always been a pleasure to chat to Vivian herself, and more recently, with Jenny (the new owner). Whether you need something altered, (like business pants requiring delicate length readjustment), or something mended (like holes in your favourite jumper that you've had for 10 years), then Vivian's will come to the rescue. Before throwing out or giving up on your clothing items (new or old), its worthwhile coming in to Vivian's to see if they have a solution. In most cases they can fix it or alter it for a decent price. They are helpful for all those special occasions, like formals or weddings, and they also provide dry cleaning, as well as ironing services. I once saw a guy come in here with a tub full of business shirts that had just come out of the dryer, and it was obvious he'd decided that ironing all of them was a no-no. But Vivian's would do it! Service is great, friendly, efficient, and the quality of work for everything I've had done, has always been superb.

I took in two expensive work shirts in to have sleeve length taken up. Discussed with lady length and re-positing of cuff, came to pick up and they had not done the adjustment anything like we had agreed on. instead of taking the excess bulk out of the arm width so it lined up with the cuff she had gathered the fabric together making the sleeve a puff sleeve. I ask her to redo it like we had agreed? the way she had done it made it completely unwearable as I couldn't bend my arms. she redid it and when I went to pick them up she was saying I was under charged for how much work she has done and should pay her $20 more making it $58 for each shirt to have the sleeve length taken up. I said that was not the agreed price and it was not my fault they had to do it twice as she did it completely different to what I have asked for and what she agreed to do in the 1st place. She was very rude and disrespectful to me. I will never go back there! for things that should have been simple for them if this is there line of work they stuffed it up on two different occasions with three expensive items of my clothes.

All you have to do is request something and they'll do their very best to deliver. That goes for same-day alterations and difficult jobs. Brisbane City Alterations is a great service because they accept your clothing whether you call before hand or just wander in. They're so helpful and ridiculously fast at their job. They're trusted by companies and individuals alike and can alter anything from pocket holes and pant legs to jacket arms (which is apparently pretty tricky).

I had contacted The Fitting Room via email before we arrived, because they were the closest place to our hotel, explaining the situation, and seeing if there was anything at all they could do. They got back to me right away, and said sure thing, bring it in. Long story not so short, the woman we dealt with was AMAZING and so funny and pleasant. Not only did they fix his suit perfectly for him, but they did it with such a big time restraint, and fixed a huge problem that we thought was inevitable to fix. Can't recommend this place enough.
