    Double breasted velvet tuxedo coat

Always my go to place for alterations. She replaced buttons on my formal double breasted jacket and it was a huge hit. Cost was fair.

Okay so I'll start by saying they do match their name, if you want a super quick turnaround with alterations, this is your place. I was able to get my blue velvet dress that I wore for my sister's wedding in for alterations with only a 48 hour notice. Certainly my fault for waiting so long, but sometimes things get overlooked. I saw them online and they were able to get me in quickly that same day. When I walked in, the place smelled heavily like cat urine, and I saw cats around. Not a huge deal to me, but not somewhere I wanted to spend a great deal of time. When I picked my dress up and tried it on, I noticed that they only lifted the straps but didn't adjust the bra pads inside, so they were much higher than where I needed the bra to be. Thankfully the dress was dark and it wasn't very noticeable, but it wasn't comfortable. I'll have to take it back to another tailor to fix if I want to wear it again. All in all, I knew that with a fast alteration, I couldn't expect perfection, so I'm not going to be too hard on them for that. The pricing was somewhat reasonable, but ultimately the lesson is you're going to have to manage your expectations if you go to a tailor who specializes in quick alterations.

3 layer bridesmaid dress. $45, which is cheaper that 70, 65, and 75 for other places. Will write review once it's done.

This tailor-seamstress at the beginning of the Benson strip comes off a bit curt, but the job she does for the prices she does it at is worth the slightly strained interactions. I called in a few times to get a quote about a bridesmaid dress I needed altered for a wedding. I think the phone number must be her cell phone because the first time I called she answered it but told me she was at the dentist. I was pretty confused, and hung up. A few hours later she called back and told me she could see me at her shop in 10 mins, but as it was the middle of the work day and I was clear across town 17 miles away I told her I would come in on another day. She asked me to call ahead prior to coming in. On the day I wanted to take my dress in, I called 20 mins before as she has asked, but she told me she only had time to measure me in 40 mins. So I wandered the Benson strip for a while waiting for my verbally made appointment. The appointment was lightning fast- I changed in a dressing room, she applied 6-7 safety pins, and I was back in the dressing room again. I paid my $48 up front and got a receipt that indicated to pick it up in a week. So that was that. It all seemed a bit rushed and confusing but the final product speaks for itself. I would go there again if i needed some pants or a dress hemmed.

Here's my beautiful dress, altered by Ana on the right!

I recently took two items in to be altered. The first one was a simple uniform shirt that needed an American flag sewn on the sleeve. Sounds pretty easy, doesn't it. Well, I thought so too. It was not. I explained I needed the short back in 6 days because I needed to travel to Des Moines with ot for an event in 8 days. Not a problem, I was assured. I went in 6 days later to retrieve the shirt, as I was promised, and it was for some reason not done. OK. It can happen. I explained I needed the shirt for certain the next day as I was leaving in the morning of the next day. The counter person assured me it would be done by 3:00. OK. No problem. I went back the next day, and as you might have guessed, the shirt was not ready at 3:00. She assured me that if I came back at 5:00 it would be finished. I returned at 5:00, and lo and behold, it was complete, but she had sewn the wrong flag on it. She was apologetic after I pointed this out and asked me to take a seat while she made the correction. OK. I sat down. A few minutes later, she returned with the shirt, but the flag was horribly crooked. This was an easy piece of work, because the flag sits nearly directly on top of a seam! Just line it up with the seam! Once again, I sat down while she took the shirt back to correct her error. She returned after a short while with the shirt, and there was glue spread all over the place. Apparently, beneath the old patch, had been glue, which was now both on the shirt, and on the new flag. She did not see an issue with this when I pointed it out, but she did once again take the shirt back again, to see if she could use the steamer to remove the glue. She returned it to me about 10 minutes later, and while most of the glue was now off of the shirt, there was still a rather large blob of glue obscuring part of the flag. I told her OK, I would take it, and when I got home I steamed that glue from it so it at least looked presentable. She did offer to comp the job for all the issues, but I refused and paid her. Nobody should work for free. OK, second item. My second item was a Revolutionary War uniform coat. It was expensive and made for me a few years ago. Due to recent weight loss, it needed to be altered. When I went to get my shirt, and got increasingly annoyed waiting, I did ask for my uniform coat back. I said I did not trust them to get it done right, and that I would take it elsewhere. I was informed my coat was not there, and that he seamstress had taken it home since it was such an involved job. OK. No problem. I left with just my glue-covered shirt. I waited a few days to call to check on my coat, and was told on a Thursday, that they did not know the status, since it was still at the seamstress's home, but I was assured I would get a call the next day, Friday, with a status. This was by the lady who had screwed my shirt up, but I held out confidence that she would be able to competently check into this, and call me back the next day. Of course, she did not. Big surprise. I called back Monday and was aggravated at her for not calling me back. I expressed my frustration, and she assured me should would ASAP and call me right back. She actually did return my call in short order to PROMISE me the coat would be done in 3 more days. In 3 days, I called before making another fruitless trip, and was informed that now the seamstress need an additional 4 days. At that point I drove to the shop, and demanded my coat be returned to me. I had not given permission for anyone to remove my coat from the building, and I was sick of waiting. I even offered to go pick the coat up from wherever the seamstress had secreted it. I was assured a call would be made to get my coat returned. A gentleman called me, he might be the owner or manager of Maple Tailors and we discussed the debacle. He made no attempt to defend this lousy customer service, and was quite apologetic. He assured me the coat would be there the next day. Somehow, magically, the coat that could not be completed, was completed that night. Perhaps it was done by fairies or angels, I do not know. It was done correctly, which very much surprised me. I half expected there to only be 1 arm or something, but everything was fine. I paid my bill, $133, and left. I am glad it was done, but I will never return. It is a shame because I was a loyal customer for around 10 years. Go up the street to Jack's tailors for far less hassle!

Pretty simple sewing job which I would have done myself if I had an operational sewing machine. When I got it back after over a week I noticed the left side was shirred but the right side was quite flat, so the crotch was totally off center. I brought this to his attention in a very nice manner but he threw a fit and refused to accept his mistake. After going back and forth he gave me back my $15 and he had the nerve to demand that I go back the next day so he could remove all the stitches he sewed! I refused and told him he could remove it right then and there while I waited because I would NEVER EVER go back! He didn't do it so I left. Look elsewhere for your sewing needs! Background: I have been going to this tailor for a few years now (just because they are the closest) and I noticed that they often make mistakes with simple sewing requests. Worse, the owner takes offense/gets grumpy when you show and explain nicely what needs to be corrected. I'm a very patient person and always give multiple chances, but in this case I should have just stopped tolerating this crap a long time ago! Live and learn!

We came in with a dress that needed to be cleaned, and we left with a damaged dress that needs to be cleaned again. Waited a day to ensure that this review is level-headed and not emotionally driven. My Fiancé took her wedding dress here based on a referral from a friend. We had already chosen a different lady for our dress alterations and only needed the dress cleaned. After pickup we found the wedding dress (worth around 1700.00) neatly packaged in a standard clear plastic bag that was stapled closed around the outside. Our first and biggest issue was that they had stapled our dress along with the bag. Obviously, the folks here do not care to treat your property with respect. Wedding dresses are expensive, and it really doesn't take much effort to ensure that you don't put staples through your customer's clothing. While they are small holes, the dress now has little holes in it. The second issue was that there were black spots on the dress as well as hair. We had not removed the dress from the plastic bag and the hair was underneath. The third issue was that when my Fiancé took the dress back, they were confrontational and tried to defend everything. The most professional response here would have been. "I'm sorry we stapled your dress, and that we weren't able to clean it to your satisfaction. The black dots were unable to be removed, but there definitely shouldn't have been hair. Here is a full refund". Instead my Fiancé felt like she had to defend herself and argue about everything, and she left incredibly emotionally distraught. The lady yelled at her and tried to make her feel stupid. A bystander chiming in and telling her to 'leave her emotions out of it' didn't help the situation either. Ultimately we got a 75.00 cheque (roughly half the cost of the cleaning), a very bad experience and we never will be able to trust this place again.
