I have been a patient at this office since around 2021, and I have witnessed many positive changes and improvements over time, including the move to a new location and the addition of wonderful new staff. NOTE: IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE READ !!! PLEASE GET A 2ND OPINION BEFORE GETTING DENTAL WORK DONE HERE!!! A Hard Lesson in Trust and "Medical Necessity" I have always been a proactive patient, trying to maintain dental cleanings every six months. As a self-pay patient, I have already spent a considerable amount of money with this practice, as trust and quality care are everything to me. I initially chose Dr. Athari because of his training at the prestigious Northwestern School of Dentistry in Chicago; I respected his background and gave him my total trust. This review is not a critique of the technical work already performed, but rather a discussion regarding diagnostic integrity. After completing initial work and paying a significant amount out of pocket, I was given a "proposed" treatment plan for two additional fillings and a crown. When I noticed the prices had increased significantly since my initial visit, I followed my intuition and sought a second opinion. I sought a blind second opinion, never mentioning Dr. Athari's diagnosis to the new dentist. After a thorough exam and new X-rays, the second dentist found that the teeth in question were healthy and that the two fillings and the crown were completely unnecessary. To have such a massive discrepancy--from needing invasive crown work to needing nothing at all--is deeply concerning and feels like a betrayal of the financial investment I had already made in this office. When I contacted Pleasant Smiles to discuss this discrepancy, the response was appalling. I called first and the billing manager was very defensive and overtalking me to the point I had to hang up on her. She then sent an email in which I was met with threats regarding legal action for defamation and slander if I shared my honest experience publicly. This was a blatant attempt to intimidate me into silence. Only after I stood my ground did their tone shift to an apology for the "misunderstanding." To date, I still have not received a clinical reason or explanation for this significant diagnostic discrepancy. I am currently seeking a third independent evaluation to ensure complete accuracy. I work within an industry myself, where integrity is everything, and I have no desire to unfairly damage anyone's reputation. If a third professional evaluates my records and identifies the same issues Dr. Athari did, I will return to this platform, post those findings, and offer a full public apology. However, based on the second opinion I have already received, I feel my trust was taken advantage of. This experience has been deeply hurtful. The practice is called "Pleasant Smiles," but my smile is not so pleasant after this experience. I cannot stress enough the importance of seeking a second opinion to ensure you are not paying for work you do not need. Protect your teeth; do not jeopardize the health of your natural teeth just to pad someone's pockets. Nothing about this was "Pleasant". read more

I just started going to Dr Athari after my last dentist retired and I'm so happy to have found him. He provides an extremely detailed and patient forward service. He was very thorough and explained everything going on with my teeth and did not make me feel like he was pushing me to do anything I wasn't ready for. After my initial visit, I moved forward with his recommendation for a crown and tooth extraction. During the procedure I felt overwhelmed and began to have a pretty intense anxiety attack. Dr Athari was so kind and patient with me and was able to talk me through the procedure. I was extremely grateful of this as I was feeling pretty embarrassed for being so difficult in the process. The level of care that he provided and consideration is very difficult to find from most providers. He took the time to explain every step of the process to put me at ease and was extremely gentle. Wow! What a difference. In the past 15 years, I have visited 3 dentists, prior to meeting Doctor Athari. All three of them were terrible. The first had an assistant standing over me coughing with no mask on. The second, dragged his tools across my teeth. And finally, the third, dropped my crown into my mouth at least six times. I stopped counting after that. It was bizarre. With Doctor Athari, I finally feel like I have found a dentist that is extremely competent, and professional, and his craftsmanship is stellar. *sigh* Finally. I got such a horrified experience with my deep cleaning teeth at this office. I gave 3 stars for the good service for the first time general dental check up & customer care. At my first day of deep clean, Sonia was helping me & she is so nice & did a very good job with no pain but at my second day, I had Jenifer, she is so rough on me. 5 stars is not enough for Dr Athari! I hadn't been to the dentist in over 30 yrs (don't judge!) and was totally expecting the worse. I don't know if 3 extractions are always painless but this time it was. But that's not why I'm giving 5*. It's because of the professionalism and "bed side manner" of the entire staff. I would like to preface my review by saying I am not a huge fan of dentists...now with that said, Dr. Athari was outstanding. I have not had this experience before from a dentist where he was warm, caring, told me everything that was going to happen, up on technology and didn't make me feel bad because I didn't take care of my teeth! I had a wisdom tooth extracted and I have no insurance. I fully expected to come back and have the tooth extracted (I thought it would be a regular extraction and not a wisdom..sad for me) but he was able to do it right then and right there. IN UNDER A MINUTE! I was absolutely blown away. Very little pain, very little bleeding, very little time. My appointment was at 2:15 and I was walking out the door by 3pm, toothless! I live close to the Centennial area and drove all of the way to Henderson and it was worth it. I have been neglecting my tooth for almost a year now. It's like never the right timing to pay my dentist a visit, even though I received 2 reminders that my visit was due. The other day I was at work when my left side of the head started hurting and pulsing so bad! I wasn't able to concentrate or even think. I have never experienced a pain like that. I reached out to Dr. Athari and he said that was an infectious pain and to come straight to the office. Dr. Athari took care of my emergency situation within an hour the pain was gone! I had a wonderful first impression of Pleasantsmiles and Dr. Arthari. I made a follow up appointment where I paid for my services ahead of time for my next visit. A few months later I received a bill in the mail that stated I owed them money because insurance did not cover something. Shouldn't the staff be verifying what is covered and the cost prior to charging their clients? I refused to pay as the work that I HAD payed for was never completed.I then attempted to make another appointment so that I could receive the work that I paid for however, the staff never returned any of my calls probably due to high turnover of staff and therefore, kept sending me bills in the mail. My boyfriend had the same complications as far as receiving bills in the mail, months after the paid and completed work. They then sent me to collections for $255 for work that I never received. This in turn brought my credit score down by quite a bit. To say that I was beyond upset about my credit score being affected by something like this would be an understatement. All that needed to be done was a return phone call, the work I paid for to be completed and a print out of everything that the insurance covered and services that were charged. This is not a lot to ask of as it is a standard request. Dr Athari has commented on some of the posts on here defending himself and yes, he does contact his clients the following day and he is the only one doing any of the work on his patients however, I would take a dentist that has multiple staff working with their patients over him any day if I knew I would have the headache of dealing with billing issues as well as credit issues. I would not recommend him to anyone. I will be traveling back to California from not on to see my old dentist who knows what true patient care and consideration means. read more

A lot can happen in six months (semi-annual dental cleaning), such as meeting a new staff member! I think Cindy (sp.) is Dr. Athari's dental hygienist, and she's pretty cool. She was friendly and connected with me right from the beginning! It's all about finding common ground to strike a good conversation. LOL. Just thinking about how she'd let me respond to her comments between stints of cleaning my teeth is humorous. No worries... The same front desk staff is still there, and just as friendly. It's just nice to see Dr. Athari have an additional person to help him out, but he's still the same guy that'll be there for you. I have been going to Dr. Athari for about 2 years now and I am so glad my friend recommended him to me. I really like that he sees only one person at a time, so there is privacy and it feel less stressful than other dentist offices, which is very important to me. I believe this is how dental offices SHOULD be set up and I appreciate that he is one of few who does so. Furthermore, Dr. Athari is very understanding of me being nervous, so he always calms me down, he is very knowledgeable and he does not rush.
