I've seen stuff in Lewes Mercantile that I've seen in other antique stores for way way less than what Lewes is selling it for. And on top of that, the employees have not been very nice to me. I once asked if they have/ever get a certain item in and both ladies working at the counter quickly snapped and said no. Like any antique store though, they do have some deals, but rarely. I am just really sad to see this and I really wish it was way better. I am totally good with giving them a second chance if they improve, as I would LOVE an antique store downtown that had some deals! It's a great place to walk around and just look, but it's very expensive for the average person. I would try other antique stores first.

This place is setup in the typical "vendor stall" setup that's common with antique multi-stores where each little booth is a separate seller. Overall it provides a better experience for the customer with a plethora of different vendors and things to peruse. Sometimes these larger malls are a little bit cumbersome to navigate and I find myself thinking "oh crap, have I done this room yet?" but Antique Alley was kind enough to have arrows on the floor to direct you through their space, to make sure that you were able to see everything and not have to double back.

However - every single one of them had a chip on the edge or at the points of the design. I carried them up to the front and began to say something and then I decided that I didn't want to do that on a busy Saturday with such a crowded shop- so I turned around & put them back in the booth I found them in.... But what a huge disappointment! Why would a seller not disclose defects & 10.00 a plate is the going cost for a 'nonchipped' plate. if somebody isn't careful and does not run their finger along the edges, they will not realize how many chips are on these plates that fail to disclose their flawed condition. In fairness- This has not been my experience In the past here.

I've seen this business for as long as I've been a Bethany summer regular (35 years). I am not…read moresure if the same person has owned it, but it seems to remain a constant fixture in the community for locals and out of towners alike. Most recently I dashed out while my mom watched my 8 month old to get a hostess gift for our family friend. I was greeted as soon as I entered by perhaps the owner (a friendly blonde woman). I told her I was looking for specific gifts (cocktail napkins, coasters, and a candle) and she showed me where said merchandise was located in each of the rooms. The store is cozy and inviting, as the name suggests, and is full of beach themed goods for home. It's a great spot for picking out a quick hostess gift, or a clever birthday gift (think cute wooden signs, pillows, cheese boards etc). The store isn't cluttered though it is full of options. I found some beach chair coasters (heavy and substantive), and a lovely candle that had an orange vanilla fragrance and helped feed a hungry child in South America with its purchase. I tried to use my Target card but stupidly didn't realize that it only works at Target.com or in Target stores (I don't have the master card that works everywhere). Oops. I only brought an AMEX but she kindly let me use that. I would have had to go back to our beach house and get my other card. I will be back next time I am in town looking for a gift. Friendly service and an inviting shopping atmosphere are a plus!
