The staff are friendly and helpful, parking spaces are plentiful and although it is a smaller shop, there is still a great selection of essentials to be had. Worth a visit if you are local.

The stock and produce is always of a…read morehigh quality and the costumer service is satisfactory, the staff at Tesco are occasionally nice and pleasant and always helpful, although the staff are satisfactory and the products are of high quality I was emotionally knocked from the events that took place later in the day I was even more distressed when I found out about the ridiculous attempt to improve club card sales by the increase in price of the infamous Tesco meal deal from £3 to £3.50 if you don't have a club card, although I have a club card many of my peer found their self 50p short and unable to purchase lunch. Although mostly you will found the things you need if you go in on a Wednesday and Thursday you will usually find a shortage on meal deal items and chilled beverages. On a plus I have also experienced some out of date produce in the sandwiches marked as in date they are also in some state prior to opening the packaging.

Generally these days, if I'm in the City Centre and my shopping list consists of much more than eggs, milk and bread, this is where I go. Their range is just that bit wider than that of their nearest neighbours and that makes all the difference. I don't want to have to visit four city centre supermarkets to find cornflower, for example, so I just start here. The other advantage of a slightly larger store is that they have more price point options than your average convenience store. It still won't be the cheapest possible shop, but for at least some items they'll have the "budget", the "regular" and the "luxury" options to choose from. They also have space to run just a few more promotions and, as they insist upon reminding us, every little helps.

Aldi, like arch-rval, Lidl, stock a fairly limited range of mostly own-brand food, and weekly non-food special offers, such as DIY, motoring, outdoors, etc. By limited range, I mean that they tend to focus on a narrower spread of varieties of each product, I quite like this - because I tend to procrastinate... now which variety of houmous to choose? Regular, Peri-peri, red pepper, chilli-infused, etc. Keeping it simple speeds up my shopping no end! They now have a "deluxe" range too, like Tesco Extra Special or Sainsbury's Taste the Difference. For a city-centre supermarket, this is probably the best in Glasgow. Prices way cheaper than Asda, and a far wider range than the Tesco/Sainsbury's convenience stores. And with a proper fresh fruit and veg selection. This store is popular with students at the nearby halls, as well as Merchant City residents. Currently, twin pack red pointed sweet peppers are 79p - compared with around £1.80 in Tesco. 500ml Williams Bros beers are £1.60 or so, tinned tomatoes 30p, 6 large free-range eggs, 99p, cherry plum tomatoes 59p. The weekly super-six fruit and veg deals is epic, last week a bag of six oranges for 59p... amazing! A special mention has to be made for Aldi's Ribera del Duero red wine - this is absolutely one of the best budget (sub-£15) reds you can buy. Trust me on this, you'll impress the snobbiest of dinner guests with this one, it's awesome, and under £6. In summary, really good quality stuff, large range of fresh fruit and veg, good meat and chilled section, great booze, and who knows, you might pick up a bargain riding crop or air compressor!

The Cafe's still there, it was closed when I headed down today but I think I may pop in again some day for a brew. It reminds me of my school days of going down the street for my lunch. Hanging around about Asda looking and buying things we've no need for. This was also a fun past time when I used to be part of the management committee at the Terminal One Youth Centre across the road. I still can't believe they made this Asda 24 hours, is there seriously people who want to head to shop in Blantyre at 3 in the morning?! I've no idea but I know I certainly wouldn't. Also why they built a Hamilton 24hr Asda when the Blantyre one's been there for 30 years. Suppose the Hamilton one does have more stuff in it like clothes and electrical etc. Well I did mange to get my dad a new ariel for his tv so he was mighty pleased. You do manage to get most things from there but it is normally for the groceries. I do have one gripe with them at the moment since they've did away with the deli counter. You now can only buy packs of meat slices, which cost a fortune, £3 odd for several slices, I don't think so. I miss the counter where you could just order what you need, maybe 1 or 2 slices. There's still some kind of counter and that's where I asked about single slices, even the women agreed that they shouldn't have did away with the deli. Ah well maybe it will work, maybe it won't only time will tell. It was the same when all those self checkouts came into play. Don't even get me started on them. Also what's with the staff being made to have big hand signs with 'space here'?! Maybe it's to give them jobs when they lost out to the self checkouts. Some people's crazy ideas eh?! Asda Blantyre's customer service has went over & beyond to help me this morning.i made an order to…read morecollect then I had to cancel the order as it wasn't what was needed.i must not have cancelled it right coz the order went ahead.i phoned the number given online(0800 number) & I found the woman I talked to not much help so I phoned the store & the guy I talked to was amazing.Really helpful nothing was too much trouble & he had it sorted within a minute.Then I got a phone call from a lovely lady to ask if I couldn't get up for it they would deliver it for me.Amazing customer service & nothing was too much trouble for them,love that this store still puts customers needs first.

Eagle-eyed Yelpers will have noticed that I'm a Tesco girl through and through (other supermarkets…read moreare available) so venturing to Lidl was a fairly big event for me (and nothing at all to do with the fact it was the closest supermarket to the pool following my swim and I was being uber lazy...). First major discovery for me, they have some branded labels! This is already more than I was expecting so instant star for that. Although I wasn't looking for bread, they had a nice bakery section with plenty of individual bakes like croissants and ciabattas etc. Fruit and veg next, this seemed really cheap! All your basics were there plus a few niceties like 4 good size figs for £1 (5 wee ones in my beloved Tesco cost me £2 the other day!). I had a wee nosey up and down the other aisles and spotted some good bargains, like fresh fish (noted for future visits) however it's not a huge store so you won't get the same variety as you would in the big supermarkets. By the time I came to pay there was only one checkout on and they don't have self-serve tills sadly so I had a bit of a wait; the guy with his 6-pack of tinnies behind me seemed more bothered by this than me however! I can't see me doing a weekly shop here but it's good for topping up basic supplies.

There is a petrol station again like all morrisons has good and competative prices. This store has a dry cleaning service, pharmacy, instore bakers which always smells good as you pass. The other facilities include the instore butcher and cafe. The products are standard from their own basic range to their middle priced range and to the well known brands. They have weekly special offers on and these are usually very easy to find at the end of the aisles. The staff are friendly and helpful although there can be queues at the weekend. I do find the car park to be tight in places though so take your time.
