There is a medium-sized cheese plant -- Great Lakes Cheese -- just down the street. They used to have a factory store where you could buy direct, but now Freeway Grocery sells it instead. The price is a steal. The 4X Cheddar (the sharpest version they make) goes under the name "Adams Reserve" when sold elsewhere. I've seen little chunks of it for sale in gourmet stores in Boston and NYC for more money than what at Freeway gets you a big brick of no-nonsense, wrapped-in-plastic-wrap, tangy, crumbly deliciousness. Milder versions (3X, 2X, 1X, medium, mild) available too. If you like good cheese, fresh curds, and/or local products, this spot is a great, easy stop off the highway.

He stops at one of the Stewart's co-ops many times when filling up and grabbing a bite. I was impressed with all their ice cream. There are so many options. I picked the peppermint which was great. My son chose egg nog and he liked that. My husband liked the vanilla and chocolate. It's a co-op so the employees are paid better than other businesses which is nice.

The first spot I pulled up to, credit card wasn't working. The second spot I pulled up to, the gas was trickling so slowly that I could hear it--1 gallon must have taken a full minute or more. So, the third spot I pulled up to worked. Thank goodness. But this whole time, I'm scared that someone could easily see me alone and take advantage of me. I think I will fill up somewhere else if I ever find myself back in that area.

I have been coming to this location for years for gas and snacks. I often arrive here late at…read morenight, and this place can't be beat when I need a quick grocery item or a cold drink after a long drive. The ice cream counter is reasonably priced and there is almost always a sale going on for cones or milkshakes. The ice cream flavors are made by Stewart's and range from classic to unique, my favorites being Fireworks (vanilla with cherry swirl, red and blue pop rocks) and Happy Camper (s'mores). You can also take their ice cream home in half gallons or pints. Stewart's also makes its own brand of drinks - soda, seltzer, iced tea, juice, and in recent years, Keurig cups. Hot coffee and prepared foods like sandwiches, pizza, and baked goods are always available. The best part of this location is that in decades of coming here, I have never had a cashier or counter person that wasn't friendly. You can't say that about too many convenience stores!
