First of all, not farmer's produce at all. All of this can be found at a supermarket, it's all from giant commercial growers so nothing about this is "farmers market" worthy. Second, the guy ringing us up, that I assume is also the owner of the shop, was impolite and has one of those non-caring worker attitudes. Third, we asked if he could slice a piece of an apple for us to try and he replied "no sampling". Again, a farmer would not do that. This guy just resells supermarket produce at a "farmers market". That is, in my opinion, misleading and unethical. I rather give my money to a supermarket, at least they have better service. The selection is good for the size of the shop but again just be aware that it's the same produce you can buy at your local supermarket. read more

They had an "OK" variety of items....about the same as the rest of the fruit and veggie stands. As I'm browsing the stand, I noticed a package of "Fiesta Pistachios"...I love pistachios, and seeing the name "Fiesta" on it, already had me sold. I enjoy trying pistachios in different flavors. So as I'm picking through the packages, looking for the cheapest one (I'm frugal)! I find one for $6.75. I proceed on with my day, continuing to shop at Farmers Market, and don't try the nuts, until I get home. Boy was I disappointed!!!!! They were chewy, the package wasn't sealed properly, and they were just spicy seasoned nuts, with a colorful shell. This is my local go-to spot for fresh produce. They've always got just what I need, everything's fresh and I find the prices are always reasonable and fair. On average I drop a twenty for a basket full of everything I need for the week. There's always great seasonal picks and specials - like blueberries and blackberries for a buck - but if you really feel the need for cherries and apricots in the middle of January, they've got you covered so long as you don't mind dishing an off-season price to get them. Aside from all the fresh fruit and veg (that spans the area of two stalls, there's so much good stuff), you'll find a huge selection of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, pickles, honey and fresh herbs. Come here for good produce, at good prices, and good customer service. I generally prefer Farm Boy to its neighbor and competitor at the Farmers Market. In part, the customer service is more readily available. You can always get an answer if something isn't marked clearly (paging Whole Foods!). The prices are often similar to their farm stand neighbor, but not always. Overall, I find the produce very fresh, with some degree of organic offerings (usually berries). Sometimes melon seem a bit expensive here. But it's pretty easy to stock up here (you may want to bring a canvas bag as their plastic bags are limiting.) read more

This place has apparently undergone an ownership change somewhat recently. It's a real pity, because it used to be quite a gem. Now, the produce is almost uniformly insipid, watery, inorganic, and occasionally borderline rotten. Moreover, the prices are bad. The employees at this place used to be exceedingly kind, helpful and polite. Now they are brusque on a good day, and borderline homicidal (or at least dismissive and bitter) on every other day. In all candor, I have almost never -- in 40+ years living in L.A. -- encountered such uncivil, insolent employees at ANY business. There are several fruit stands in Farmer's Market -- not to mention Whole Foods across Third Street, Trader Joe's across Fairfax -- so really there is NO REASON to spend your money at Farm Boy. read more

( i really dont like men, but if I did it'd be like that) Sun Maid California Dried Apricots meet my exacting standards. But in an allergy-medicine-induced haze, I bought Sun Sweet Mediterranean Dried Apricots instead. My hopes for an iron-and-fiber-rich snack were crushed--these dried apricots were overly plump and tasted as if they had suddenly adapted a far more sedentary and sugar-loving lifestyle that tainted their excessive flesh with sucrose. Sun Sweet's Mediterranean Dried Apricots would do well to get off the couch, put down the cannolis, and borrow some healthier recipes from their West Coast brethren. read more

This place has lost many stars for me... the only reason why I still go there is because of Carmen, she works there and is without any doubt one of the most knowledgeable and friendliest people. This place changed ownership and it shows. The previous owner was a Mexican man, very friendly and I loved the place. He always knew exactly who I was (I know, I am a sucker for that kind of thing, I like to be recognised, it gives my otherwise solitary life something nice). On a more serious note: I like to bond with my vendors. But the new owner, I think Korean, does not have that charisma. He can't help it, he runs a business and is probably doing well. Local & Fresh produce and fruits !! Located in 3rd Street Farmers Market, this place is tucked in the corner (next to another veggie/fruit stand..probably their rivals!!). They always have great selection of local veggies/fruits. I picked up some plums the other day for a Plume Tarte Tatin and it came out great. The Fruit Company stocks the best fresh produce! I shop here at least once weekly. I usually buy apples and other fruit. The cherries, nectarines and peaches were outstanding this summer. Let me start with I've been shopping at this place for over 10 years. They have very fresh produce and very tasty Korean dishes. Lately I've been checking the dates on the packaged food because I bought something last week and I got extremely sick from it. I looked at the package that it came in and it was 10 days past expiration. It's up to the employees to go through food on a daily basis and check the expiration dates and pull off the shelf what is past those dates. I don't want to feel like every time I go there that I have to look at the dates when I think I'm buying fresh food, should not happen. You guys have a great little place here but your one flaw is that you keep things on the Shelf way past their expiration date oh, take care of it. read more

He changed his mind for a larger pack while the Hispanic girl was ringing him up. The owner standing on the side watching. My friend said I can pay the difference. I've been coming here for a long time (5 years or so) and I have to say I'm in love with this place. The produce is always fresh and way cheaper then whole foods across the street for the exact same thing !!! I always wondered how they kept their prices so low, until one morning I was walking my dog at around 5 am and saw the owner unloading the produce out of his own truck. I'll agree with Dutchie that the owner seems to be somewhat to himself, but I don't go there to chat , I go for fresh produce. I also find it refreshing that the same employees have been there since I started shopping, which meant that the new owner kept all the old employees which is a rarity now a days. I guess the bottom line is if you're looking for fresh produce for a great price this is your place, if you're looking for place where the owner makes conversation with you and holds your hand while you shop then you might want to make a time machine and go back to 1956. Dishonest seller. I bought plum, strawberry, white peach, white cherry and banana from this location at farmers market LA next to the Grove. Paid for everything, the employee gave me one plastic bag, trusted her to put everything in the bag and didn't check. When we got to the hotel only found strawberry and plum. We are visiting from bay area and went to local farmers market often, never had problem like this. I don't have time to go back and claim the fruits or ask for refund. Since this is a farmers market, I thought the stuff here would be cheap and fresh, and organic. It's not necessarily any of those things. I've bought from this place at least 5 times (I don't know why). Once I bought bananas, more expensive than Trader Joe's. Overripe. I opened it, and it was black inside. The strawberries are sometimes placed in an area right below where you would exchange money. People sneak a taste out of those strawberries all the time. the only thing i come to Farm Boy for is their apples. i actually drive from silverlake to the farmer's market just to get apples from Farm Boy. i really love their giant sized fujis! i gave only 3 stars because sometimes, i make the drive all the way over there and load up on 14 apples for the week, only to get home and find that the apple is brown in the middle!! sometimes i get 3, or 4 apples with the surprise brown in the middle. this has been VERY disappointing to me because the REST of the time, i love the giant, juicy, clear and crisp fuji apples from here! so, i after taking a break from Farm Boy and buying little, regular apples elsewhere, i always come back to Farm Boy, craving their big apples. i am happy with them, and as of today, i am being proactive by calling them FIRST before driving over and asking when the new shipment of apples is in... they told me the new shipment is here now, but they won't have the apples out for sale until later today around 3pm. see? that saves me the drive and diappointment this morning! the 3 star rating is only tentative... it could easily be a 4 star. it would be a 5 if i never came across any bad apples. read more

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR MONEY! Extremely rude, disrespectful and please do not waste your time. We placed an order with the owner and when I call the next day, I call and the female answering the phone tells me I have the wrong number. I tell her how do I have the wrong number when I am calling the number on the receipt. She tells me no order was placed when I asked to speak to the owner, who told us they would have the product for us the next day was no there. I leave my information (knowing she probably would not relay the message) and when I did not get a call I called same nasty female answers the phone says the order was not available I said you are also the one who said I had the wrong number you obviously do not know what you are talking about. There are too many other better options where the service is better they act like they are the only place that sells fruits and veggies lol... We were looking to buy CASES...
