Oxfam especially seems to me as though it is the (second-hand) Rolls Royce of charity retail establishments. They're never quite spotless (well, come on) but I find that they still manage to display a lot of stuff without the place appearing as a cluttered mess. Although Oxfam does usually cost a fraction more than most charity merchandising outlets, I believe it is justified because of the enhanced shopping experience they provide. And also, quality comes at a price!! Anyway, where else can you pick up a new(ish) book, a new(ish) shirt and a greetings card for little over a fiver? Well, in other charity shops but most importantly - in Oxfam! If you don't go charity shop shopping then I say that you are missing a trick and would strongly recommend you give it a go, last time I was in here I left with four books (or five?) and a CD - happy days! Not your typical oxfam shop, in this area there are quite a few of them and competition must fierce, with many not lasting. This oxfam store had a impressive window display and that's what really bought me in. With many items being new items that other places hadn't sold, I spotted a Wimbledon back pack that normally sells for £60 in the Wimbledon shop here for £2 even though it may be last years bag, the design is still the same as this years. Overall good shop for bargains.

Alas, the young Richmond residents don't seem to be donating much to there local charity. While there were quite a few rails of clothes, they were mainly in the 50+ age bracket. Well done middle aged Richmond! Shame on the youngsters! What I was impressed with though, was the amount of books that were on offer. So many that they were categorised; Literature, Biography, History and Mind Body and Spirit. This gives you a sense of the reading materials of Richmond. The Mind Body Spirit section was big! I was also surprised to see sweets and chocolates. You don't get this at my local. There was a lot of Fair Trade chocolates, and the Divine chocolate range, which I often see in Selfridges for three times the price. There was also a bit of the Burnt Sugar range sold here, this is the organic fudge made in different flavours. I know where all my family are going to get their Christmas chocs this year!

My boyfriend…read morewas always moaning that East London and other vintage shops just don't have really high class, proper matching suits for *all* sizes (he's quite slim and not a big tall buff guy, if you know what I mean but not a whippet either), he always finds it hard to get fitted suits that are vintage. This place is now his mecca. The attire is proper gentlemen's clothes / suits and something a little more special than some of the trash in East London or the cheap nonsense in Central London. If you are a man and a fan of vintage clothes, this should be your first stop - these guys pride themselves on specialising on vintage suits and they really are the best I've found.

Especially good if you want to get things like Morning Suits or DJs. There is a lot of stock, so you may have to search for what you need. Go and have a browse around if you have a spare minute or two. They also do alterations. I still have the wedding outfit I got from there, and it has paid itself back many times now. It may be cheap, but it does the job and I'm not complaining; although my broom did break into three pieces after its third use, but hey, whatever, that kind of stuff is expected when you only paid 40p for it. The woman who runs the shop has good taste, but a terrible attitude. When I walk in I can feel her eyes pummeling through my shoulder blades. When I turn around her ferocious gaze locks into my eyes with unrelenting force and all of a sudden I feel besieged by uneasiness and I don't want to shop in the store anymore. I want to flee. If you're courageous enough to brave the ferocity of the hawk-eyed charity shop general woman then you're in for good vintage bargains. The clothes, especially the shoes, are worth the possible threat of attack. Unfortunately, the shoes are in vintage sizes, meaning that they generally run quite small. If you have monolith feet like me (size 10 or more) you may be out of luck. The hats are hot though, and unless you have a gigantic dinosaur head (which would definitely be sad to say the least) you may find a fedora cool enough to make the Rat Pack quiver in shameful defeat at their cool-factor downgrade.

This charity shop has less dressy things but more casual items, such as cardigans, hats, shirts, pullovers...From Mango, M&S to Missoni and Rocha. The staff is very friendly and you have to remind yourself they all do it on a voluntary basis. If you are getting rid of some of your old clothes, shoes or fan...make your way there and they are grateful for your contribution!

The dress's history was really interesting and the owner told me how it had been sourced in America. As others have commented the dress came beautifully packaged in a hat box, a really nice touch. Overall you can really see the thought and care that has been put into finding unique and special items.
