Even in the smallest towns in the littlest corners of the world, coffee shops can be a third space to some, a mental oasis of release with just espresso and milk. I first visited Far West on a day trip to Midland and was thoroughly impressed by what it is, what it does, and the true semi-traditional, semi-modern aesthetic it has going for it. A slight cowboy tinge to a modern minimalist coffee shop. It makes sense being in oil city, where Landman is based. Its storefront has this old brick feeling, and inside the space is gorgeous. Plenty of natural light leaks through, with wood accents and granite tables. They have a kitchen in the back because on Fridays they have a full breakfast menu that is delicious. The staff is kind and cozy. You forget you in Midland entirely, and you feel transported to a coffee shop in South Austin. That's how above and beyond this place feels The coffee is top notch every time. This time I got their Bourbon Latte from the winter menu, which was great, while my girlfriend got their Cafe de Olla that she really enjoyed. The space is nice for work or just relaxing. I got some reading in while my girlfriend knitted. It was a great time. If you are ever passing through Midland or live in the area, it is worth a stop. I loved this coffee shop! I came in to kill some time and read and book and this place is so aesthetic and cute. The staff are super friendly and made me feel welcomed. The dirty chai tasted great and I loved that it was a little "spicy" compared to just regular box chai. Definitely one of the best dirty chai I have had. We stopped here for coffee wanting to try somewhere new. The place was packed with a line waiting for coffee, tables were all filled and the place was loud and crowded. Very dog friendly as lots of people had dogs. We didn't have to wait long for a seat to open up and were able to have our drinks there. I got the cardamom bun, the cafe old fashioned and the spice spice baby fall specials. The café old fashioned was very unexpected and phenomenal. Highly recommend it. The spice spice baby didn't taste like any of the spices or flavors described but was still a great cup of coffee if you weren't too disappointed with getting coffee Instead of a spiced pumpkin latte :) read more

Far West incorporates flavors that don't over power it's coffee but they pair up perfectly with their roasts. They have a seasonal menu along with their original menu. If you've never been here and the parking lot is full, don't let that deter you. There is plenty of open space inside. The staff were extremely kind and prompt at answering questions. They make their own syrups, which is always a good sign. I got a drip coffee with cream and a latte with a mixture of half honey/half chata (horchata) syrups and it was delicious. If you actually want to taste the espresso (as I hope you do) make sure you communicate you only want half of each syrup, or maybe even a quarter of each syrup. Price was pretty on par with other independent coffee shops. Aka they're all expensive. It's worth a stop if you're in town. read more
