I did find a gum wrapper and hair in the made bed. We had mystery noises the whole stay. Our ac makes a loud noise every few minutes like a piece of plastic is banging on something internally. It didn't bother me except at night. The doors make the unlocking sound regularly even though nobody is there. Might lead Some to think Casper visits. The reason I'm taking the time to write a review on this Holiday Inn in particular is because of the service. Check in was pleasant, I was offered water and it was fast as usual. Fast forward to check out... I had the first flight home, so I was up around 5am and barely functional. Not realizing it, I left my tiny little Apple AirPods on the bed. Tiny white box + all white bed + barely awake me = no good. 3 hours later, I realize they're gone and instantly knew I'd left them behind. I called the hotel hoping they were there still. The girl at the desk (Michelle, I believe) ran to my room, tore the room apart and found my headphones and then called me back within 5 minutes. She walked me through the process to have them shipped (another 5 minutes maybe). I had them at my door of my house by noon the next day. So thank you for the incredible customer service Michelle and the rest of the staff at this Holiday Inn! This will be my go to every time I stay in Starkville from now on.

The hotel uses the parking garage in the back, which appears to serve the adjacent conference center also. The desk clerk had told us to park on the second floor, since it was on the level of the hotel, but there isn't a covered walkway (so we got caught in the rain at one point). Also, when you enter through the back of the lobby, the signs by the doors state that they are locked and a room key is necessary for access. After both our keys failing and trying a different door, we realized they weren't locked at all. Overall the property is new and shiny, with everything in good working order. However, the rooms have the same stupid door locks that I've encountered at other Courtyards, that are really difficult to open once unlocked. Would I stay here again? Absolutely.

Based on some of the previous views I read, I was treated with friendly front desk staff compared to the "rude type" I read from other Yelper's. Check-in was fast. There were some things that I noticed that you that I did not care for. The room on inspection looked clean, However. It looked like "hair follicles" were in-bedded within some parts of the mattress sheets. I don't know if was is a poor job of laundry or if these sheets were ever changed? Also, there was no blanket in the closet, like a so-called "2-3" star hotels down the road. The phone in our room worked intermittently and no dial tone?? The next morning, I had my appetite set and was looking forward to the buffet breakfast I am use to having (like at other hotel chains). I am not a gold member, so maybe someone can correct me, but I was shocked basic breakfast(all you can eat) was an additional $10.95 per person?? I stayed at this Hilton property in Starkville, Mississippi, on July 9 with my two sons for my son's baseball tournament. We checked into Room 406, left for a game, and came back later that evening. The next morning, my older son told me that something had bitten his ankles during the night. Later that day, after returning from another game, my son and I went back into the room and were absolutely shocked to find what appeared to be thousands of ants throughout the room. They were on the bed, furniture, our luggage, my son's backpack, and our personal belongings. I immediately reported this to the hotel. The General Manager told me the hotel had been experiencing an ant problem and explained that food left by a long-term guest had contributed to the issue. What has made this experience even more upsetting is that we were still charged for the stay. I have tried to follow up and cannot get a return call. I also contacted Hilton, hoping to get help resolving the situation, but so far I have received no resolution. I understand that problems can happen, but I am extremely disappointed with how this situation has been handled. I was traveling with my children for a baseball tournament and trusted that we were staying in a clean and properly maintained room. Finding ants covering our belongings was incredibly upsetting, and the lack of follow-up afterward has made the entire experience even more frustrating. I expected much better from Hilton.

Microtel doesn't pretend to be the Waldorf Astoria, or heck, even a mid-range Hilton property. The rooms were spartan; everything you need in a hotel includes a bed and toilet, really...and that's what you're going to get. The mattresses were so-so and the pillows acceptable enough for me to get a good night's sleep (that's my minimum expectation for a 3 or above when it comes to hotels, and should always be your bottomline as well). The walls are thin between the bathroom and rest of the room, however, I never heard any of the neighboring rooms and the hotel was quite full (even on a non game weekend nearly every hotel in town was booked). One thing that really stood out in my mind was that they placed two bars of soap in the bathroom. One bar was placed on the sink for hand washing and the other on the shower/tub for bathing. Now I know this sounds pretty expected (or maybe kind of weirdly lame an amenity to focus on), but I rarely find higher brand hotels putting more than a single bar of soap in the bathroom. I can't explain why but I found this pleasantly refreshing. The breakfast got slim on offerings fairly quickly Saturday morning, but still had enough to go around. The dining area is small, but with overflow on the couches in the lobby area, there was nothing to worry about. Look, when you're traveling through Ole Mississippi (say it like you're sounding it out like we all learned) and need a place off of Highway 82, consider Microtel. The carpet was dirty, the bathroom was not up to par and they were multiple spider webs in the ceilings and cracks of the door! That is not acceptable! Unfortunately since we booked through Priceline we could not get refunded but they were nice enough to only charge us the first night and that was it. I would avoid this hotel at all cost if possible.
